Watch case, process for its manufacture and tools for the implementation of this process. The present invention relates to a watch case comprising a bottom-cap including. the side wall is set back with respect to the outer periphery of the bottom; it also relates to a process for the manufacture of this box and a tool for the implementation of this process.
The box is characterized by the fact that this side wall of the bottom-cap came in one piece with the bottom.
The manufacturing process is. characterized by the fact that to form the base-cap, a blank is stamped so as to give it the shape of a cap, introduces an at least partially fluid material into this cap and then adjusts the latter on a core surrounded by a die in a recess of which the wall of this cap can penetrate without play and, finally, stamps the cap by means of a punch having hollow the external shape of the bottom so as to obtain that the pressure produced by the stamping drives out the said material laterally, which deforms, by a thrust going from the inside to.
the outside, the bottom until giving it the shape of the recess made in the punch, while the part of the side wall engaged in the recess of said die does not undergo any deformation.
The tool is characterized by a die having a recess having. the. shape of the side wall of the bottom-cap, by a core slidably mounted in the center of said recess and subjected to the action of a spring and, finally, by a punch presenting. hollow the outer shape of the bottom to be obtained, this punch moving, during the stamping operation, the core. against its purview.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the washing tool and illustrates various phases of the process according to the invention.
Fig. 1. is an axial section of the cutting tool.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the blank before its. put into work in the present tool.
Figs. 3, 4 and 5 are axial sections of the tooling, on an enlarged scale, illustrating three different phases of the manufacturing process.
Fig. 6 is. a perspective view of the finished bottom-cap, and FIG. 7 is a perspective view of a variant of this bottom-cap with a casing circle.
The tool shown comprises a plate 1 on which is. fixed by two screws 2, a matrix 3 having, on its. lower face, a housing 4 for the head 5a of a core 5 passing through a passage 6 of the. matrix 3. An annular groove 7 of the matrix constitutes the active part proper of this matrix. The hallmark is designated by 8; it has, on its working face, a shallow recess 9. The movements of the punch are guided by pegs 10 fixed to the die 3 and penetrating into holes 11 of the punch.
Finally, a coil spring 12 disposed in a housing 13 of the plate bears, on the one hand, on the latter, on the other hand, on the base of the head 5a of the core, which is frustoconical, for the hand to hold applied against a corresponding seat 14 of the housing 4 of the die. This. tooling is used in the following way. pressing a blank of determined shape into a metal plate; then, by stamping, we give to. this blank. in the form of a cap such as the cap 15 shown in FIG. 2.
It should be noted that the, form and. the dimensions of the side wall of this cap already correspond to the shape and dimensions of the side wall 15a of the finished bottom-cap (Fig. 6). Of the. consistent fat is then placed in this blank 1.5; then the latter, with this fat, is adjusted on the core 5 (fig. 3).
The tool being placed in a press, the punch 8 is lowered, comes into contact with the blank 1a and moves the core 5 against the spring. 12 in the direction of arrow 16 until, la. side wall of the blank having entered the recess 7 of the die, this wall abuts against the bottom of this recess (Fig. 4). It should be noted that this erewmr e has exactly the. shape of this side wall which thus does not deform.
The punch 8 continuing to lower, the head 5a of the core 5 abuts against the plate 1; the grease located in the space 17 (fig. 3 and 4) spreads out under the pressure and produces an internal pressure deforming the bottom of the blank 15 outwards and causing it to occupy the space left free of the recess 9. The part 15b forming the base said bottom (Fig. 6) is thus formed. It only remains to remove the burrs that will have. could have occurred by overwriting. matter between the. base of the punch and the upper face of the die.
Finally, if the tool has not been created according to a determined caliber, a crossing operation is carried out, that is to say height adjustment on the lathe. This process helps. to obtain bases-domes whose side wall is set back relative to the periphery of the base and which come in a single piece, by cold stamping; it thus saves a large number of operations, and among the longest and most costly in comparison. to the process of making the bottom and the side part in two pieces, and then welding them together.
In the. embodiment of the, fig. 6, the wall 15a serves not only as a flange for fixing the bottom to the box body, but also as a casing frame for the movement. When the movement has a shape different from that of the bottom-cap, a separate casing frame is used, such as frame 18 of the fia. 7, the general shape of which corresponds to that of the bottom- cap designated by 19 and which has an inner rim 1_8a pierced with an opening 20 having the shape of the movement.
In the usual process recalled above, the frame 1.8 is welded directly on the base 19, the latter then being a simple base and not a base-cap; it is however still more advantageous to make the bottom-ealotte 19 complete, by the method according to the present invention, and to add thereto a frame 18 easily obtained by stamping. This frame is simply nested and does not need to be welded at the bottom.
