Il est à remarquer que la forme et le diamètre de la partie latérale de cette ca lotte correspondent déjà à la. forme et au dia mètre de la partie latérale 17a du fond-calotte de la fig. 7. L'ébauche 17 est alors ajustée sur le noyau 5 (fig. 2), les languettes 17a étant placées en regard des creusures 7 de la matrice;
Process for manufacturing a bottom-cap for a watch case and tools for implementing this process. The present invention relates to a. method of manufacturing a bottom-cap for a watch case, the side part of which is set back relative to the base and is formed of tabs separated from each other by free spaces; the invention also relates to a tool for the implementation (the process.
The process is characterized by the fact that a blank whose edge is crenellated is cut from a sheet of metal, and this blank is transformed by stamping into a cap, the lateral part of which, comprising said crenellations, is flush with the surface. the periphery of the base, and that the height of said lateral part is reduced by a further stamping while producing, at the birth of the tongues, an annular bead with respect to which said tongues are recessed.
The tool is characterized by a die having at least one hollow having the faith-me of the lateral part of said cap, by a core slidably mounted in the center of said hollow and subjected to the action of a spring and finally by a punch present as hollow the outer shape of the bottom to be obtained, this punch moving the core to the encôntre of its spring, during the operation <the stamping.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the lage tool and various aspects of the bottom during its manufacture. Fig. 1 is an axial section of the lage tool.
Figs. 2, 3 and 4 are axial sections of the tooling, on an enlarged scale, illustrating three different phases of the manufacturing process.
Fig. 5 is a plan view of the first blank of the bottom-cap.
Fig. 6 is a perspective view of the blank before it is put into work in the tool shown.
Fig. 7 is a perspective view of the raw base-cap after it has passed through the equipment shown, and FIG. 8 is a partial axial section of the completed base-cap, on an enlarged scale. The tool shown comprises a plate 1 on which is fixed, by two screws 2, a die 3 having, on its lower face, a housing 4 for the head 5a of a core 5 passing through a passage 6 of the die 3 .
A series of recesses 7 made in the die constitutes the active part proper of the latter. -The punch is designated by 8. It has, on its working face, a shallow recess 9.
The movements of the punch are guided by pins 10 fixed to the die 3 and penetrating into holes 11 of the punch. Finally, a coil spring 12 dis posed. in a housing 13 of the plate 1 is supported on the latter, to apply the head 5a of the core, which is truncated conical, against a corresponding seat 14 of the housing 4 of the die.
The method of manufacturing the base-cap shown is as follows: A blank 15 is first cut with a press, the edge of which is crenellated at 16, then by stamping, this blank is given the shape of a cap such as that the cap 17 shown in FIG. 6, that is to say, the lateral part 17a of which brushes the periphery of the base 17b. This stamping operation is called casting.
It should be noted that the shape and the diameter of the lateral part of this monkfish ca already correspond to the. shape and diameter of the lateral part 17a of the bottom-cap of FIG. 7. The blank 17 is then fitted to the core 5 (FIG. 2), the tabs 17a being placed opposite the recesses 7 of the die;
the tool being placed in a press, the punch 8 is lowered, comes into contact with the blank 15 and moves the core 5 to the end, against the spring 12 in the direction of arrow 18 until , the tabs of the lateral part 17a of the blank having entered the recesses 7 of the die, they abut against the bottom of these recesses (Fig. 4), the depth of which is equal to the height of the lan guettes. It should be noted that these recesses have exactly the shape of the lateral part of the blank which, thus, does not deform.
These recesses 7 could. however, be replaced by a single annular recess. The punch 8 continuing to lower, the head 5a of the core 5 abuts against the plate 1 and the base of the blank 17 is deformed, occupying the space left free of the recess 9.
The by; side tie 17a decreases in height and the base 17b forming the base of the bottom (Fig. 7). present im annular bead 17c, located at the beginning of the tabs and relative to which these tabs are recessed. It is also necessary to remove the burrs which may have been produced by crushing of the material between the base of the punch and the. upper face of the matrix. This gives the raw bottom-cap shown in FIG. 7.
Finally, the outer face of the remaining lateral part 17a, that is to say all of the tabs, is turned so that their end is frustoconical at 19 and their cylindrical base at 20.
This process makes it possible to obtain funds-domes the side part of which is set back with respect to the base and. is formed by tabs separated from each other by free spaces. It goes without saying that the number of tongues and the ratio between their width and the width of the intermediate spaces are not limited to the example shown.
When mounting the bottom-cap in the box, the fact that the side part is constituted by tongues rather than by a continuous rim, greatly facilitates the introduction of this rim into the box body, in addition, the face frustoconical 19 cooperating with a circular edge of an inner shoulder of the box body transforms the radial pressure of the tabs into an axial force tending to hold the bottom in place.
