Description

Layered insulator. The most widely used insulation material for electrical insulation purposes in sheet form is so-called hard paper. This sem material is a ge layered insulating material, the individual layers of which are made of paper (mainly soda cellulose) that are coated with a binder, almost all of which is phenolic or cresol synthetic resin. The bonding of the individual layers is done using heat and pressure in hydraulic plates. The hard paper produced in this way has good dielectric properties and acceptable mechanical and chemical strength values.

A disadvantage of this material is the fact that it is more or less hygro scopic. Even though the synthetic resin used for binding is largely water-repellent, the paper fibers absorb a certain percentage of moisture. For this reason, it is impossible to use hard paper as an insulation material outdoors. The disadvantage resulting from the absorption of moisture is known to be the drop in all dielectric values. The same can be said for layered insulating plates made of hard tissue. The fabric fiber is also hygroscopic and absorbs moisture.

An insulation material that is completely water-repellent, ie that does not allow the dielectric values to drop through moisture absorption, would be ideal. This would require that, in addition to a water-repellent binder (synthetic resin), the fiber material would also be completely incapable of absorbing moisture.

Glass fiber has now been found to be a suitable fiber material for this. This has been known per se for a number of years and has since been used for all kinds of insulation purposes, e.g. B. used for insulation against heat and sound in the form of mattresses, packages, fiber coverings and the like.

In the layered and pressed insulating body according to the present invention, the fiber material of at least one layer is formed by a fleece made of glass fibers which is coated with a synthetic resin. The shaping is expediently done with the application of heat and pressure. The processing can be carried out in a similar manner to what happens in the manufacture of hard paper.

Either all of the layers can be formed by glass fleeces coated with synthetic resin in order to fully realize the advantages mentioned above, or individual of these layers in any combination of other fibers, e.g. B. of cellulose fibers. One or more mica layers can also be provided.

This material can either be pressed into sheets or processed into molded bodies of any kind. It is possible to wind a fleece coated with synthetic resin into a tube with a round or any other cross-section, after which the material is exposed to the action of heat and pressed. Plates, pipes of any cross-sectional shape and fittings of any kind can be produced in the aforementioned manner.
