Une pince, dont les branches 10 portent chacune un 1 mors 11 présentant des rainures destinées à épouser le filetage du goulot des tubes à remplir, sert à enfiler le tube sur la canule 13. A cet effet, un mécanisme non représenté provoque les mouvements suivants de la pince dès qu'un tube est placé entre ses branches: rapprochement des mors 11 selon les flèches Fi jusqu'à ce que ces derniers saisissent le goulot du tube; avancement de la pince selon la flèche Fa jusqu'à ce que l'extrémité de la canule 13 arrive à proximité du fond fermé du tube 9;

Device for filling a deformable tube.
Tubes for toothpaste, beauty creams, ointments, food, etc. are currently also made of plastic. These tubes have the same shape as the aluminum or tin tubes, have at one of their ends a neck, generally threaded so as to be able to receive a screw cap, and are closed at the other end by welding the lips of the orifice. .
Since this closure must be done before filling the tube, the material that the latter must contain can only be introduced into the tube through the neck, which makes it necessary to evacuate the air contained in the tube. . The present invention relates to a device for filling a tube of this type which makes it possible to carry out a correct and complete filling of the tube and a practically complete evacuation of the air which the latter contained before its filling.
According to the invention, the device comprises a piston sliding in a cylinder intended to contain the material to be introduced into the tube, this cylinder being connected to one of the conduits of a three-way valve, the second conduit of which is connected to a cannula on which is intended to be threaded the neck of the tube to be filled, while the third duct of the valve is connected to a reservoir containing the material intended to be placed in the tubes, said three-way valve making it possible to connect the cylinder either with the cannula for filling the tube, or with the reservoir for its filling with material coming from the reservoir, means being provided for holding the tube during the various operations as well as a device for cleaning the cannula after its extraction of the tube.
The single figure of the attached drawing represents, schematically and by way of example, a partial sectional view of an embodiment of the device forming the subject of the invention.
The device shown comprises a cylinder 1, the bottom of which is conical and in which slides a piston 2 with a conical head, which is fixed to one end of a rod 3 connected to a mechanism, not shown, which causes the desired movements of the piston. The bottom of cylinder 1 has at its center an outlet and inlet orifice 4 through which the material to be placed in the tubes enters the cylinder in one phase of filling and leaves the cylinder in another phase. A three-way valve 6 is fixed by screwing in the bottom of the cylinder with the interposition of a gasket 7 ensuring the seal.
The conduit 5 of the three-way valve communicates with the port 4; the conduit 8, which is in the extension of the conduit 5, is connected to a filling cannula 13 and the third conduit (not visible in the drawing) is connected to a reservoir containing the material to be placed in the tubes. For reasons of simplicity, this reservoir has not been shown in the drawing.
A clamp, the branches 10 of which each carry a 1 jaw 11 having grooves intended to match the thread of the neck of the tubes to be filled, is used to thread the tube onto the cannula 13. For this purpose, a mechanism not shown causes the following movements. of the gripper as soon as a tube is placed between its branches: bringing the jaws 11 together according to the arrows Fi until the latter grip the neck of the tube; advancement of the clamp according to the arrow Fa until the end of the cannula 13 comes close to the closed bottom of the tube 9;
gradual retreat (according to arrow F3) of the clamp enclosing the tube as it is filled and, once the cannula is completely out of the tube, separation of the branches of the clamp which thus abandons the tube and is ready for a new filling operation.
The jaws of the gripper could be shaped to grip the tube at the base of the conical part connecting the neck to the body of the tube.
The device for cleaning the cannula is constituted by a sleeve 15 sliding on the cannula 13 and partially engaging in the neck. This sleeve, during the retraction of the tube, covers the flow slots 14. A stop member which engages under the bead 16 of the sleeve prevents the latter from abandoning the cannula.
For filling, the procedure is as follows: A tube is placed between the branches of the pliers, the jaws of which tighten on the neck (or the aforementioned conical part). The clamp is then pushed so as to thread the tube onto the cannula 13. The cylinder containing exactly the quantity of material that the tube must contain, the three-way valve is operated to put the conduits 5 and 8 in communication, after which it is actuates the piston 2 which drives the material into the tube through the cannula and simultaneously moves the clamp along arrow F3. These two combined operations result in the material gradually filling the tube, starting at the bottom of the tube, and expelling the air contained in the tube through the clearance between the cannula and the neck.
After the piston 2 has reached the end of its filling stroke, the forceps still continue to move to extract the end of the cannula which, at that time, was still engaged in the tube. Then the clamp opens and leaves the tube. In the meantime, the three-way valve has been operated to put the pasty material reservoir in communication with the cylinder (through the third conduit and the conduit 5), the piston 2 has retreated and the cylinder has been filled again. Depending on the nature of the material, the cylinder can be filled only by the vacuum caused by the piston or else by the combined action of this vacuum and a pressure exerted on the material contained in the reservoir. The device is ready for refilling.
The various operations can of course be initiated manually. It is obviously preferable to carry out them automatically using a motor actuating the mechanisms controlling the various components - clamp, piston, member for cleaning the cannula and three-way valve - these mechanisms being adjusted so as to operate each at the same time. desired time. These synchronized commands could for example be carried out using cams.
For production in large quantities, it is possible to provide a battery of devices such as the one described above combined with a device for supplying empty tubes, the various filling devices being supplied with pasty material from a single reservoir, during the return stroke of the corresponding piston.
The various filling devices could be placed on a turntable having each of these devices successively in front of the device for feeding empty tubes, a position in which a tube would be gripped by the clamp to be threaded onto the cannula attached to the three-way valve. lanes. While the gripping of the tube occurs, other operations of the filling process are accomplished in the other positions, the various devices being supplied with pasty material from a common reservoir arranged in the center of the turntable.
The filling device described will be provided with a set of interchangeable cannulas of different dimensions adapting to tubes of different format.
