For the production of space dyeing effects on yarns, i. H. A whole series of dyeing and printing processes are known of irregular colored stripes of different widths over the length of the single thread with optionally un-colored spaces. If yarns dyed according to this technique are then processed further by weaving, knitting or tufting, then special multicolor effects result on the finished product, which have a special pattern character.
This type of design has recently found interest and distribution, especially in the production of tufted carpets (preferably made from textured polyamide fiber yarns), with the yarn printing process playing the more important role than the dyeing methods.
With the Stalwart-Cormar or SPAN-dyed process (on Pickering systems), the yarns are printed in multiple colors in the form of parallel thread sheets using relief rubber rollers with embossed, preferably raised patterns. This principle corresponds to warp printing and provides good printing effects for medium-sized goods production.
According to the Whitaker (Knit-Deknit- or knitted-print-rewinding) process, filament yarns are processed into a tubular knit and several of these tubes are printed next to each other with dyes, whereupon these dyes are fixed and washed and the knitted fabric is pulled up again (de-knitted) becomes. In accordance with this working method, the points of intersection in the knitted fabric inevitably have a poor print through and are marked in the shade clearly lighter. The hourly production when using this technology is high, especially since this process runs continuously.
In the case of strand yarn printing, yarn strands in parallel reeling are printed in the unfolded state with relief printing rollers. This work process is discontinuous and therefore does not achieve the same hourly production (kg yarn / hour) as the previously mentioned knit-denit process, whereas the achievable pressure effect is good.
It has now been found that when combined dyeing and printing of yarns, preferably carpet yarns made of textured polyamide fibers, with heat-fixable dyes, preferably anionic dyes, the yarn padded with an aqueous dye liquor and wet-on-wet with slightly thickened, optionally a wetting and anti-freezing agent containing, water-based printing pastes and deeply engraved printing rollers is printed on both sides, which are fixed on applied dyes by steaming, and the dyeing obtained is rinsed, finished and dried, continuously and with high hourly production very good, and sharp space dyeing yarn prints without marked crossing points can be achieved
that you unwind the yarns parallel to long strands of up to 5 m in length and up to 350 g in weight, knot these long strands one behind the other to form endless strand chains and combine several of these strand chains, preferably 8 to 10 pieces, parallel to strand chains, and the yarn-shaped textile goods in subject to this state of the padding and immediately subsequent printing operation.
As part of the implementation of the method according to the invention, the wet strand chain can be passed through an opposing pair of slot nozzles, which are arranged across the entire width of the material's transport direction, and there from both sides the action of a compressed air flow directed against the goods are exposed, whereby the by the squeezing pressure of the padder and the padding liquor stuck together, parallel to each other adhering individual threads of the strand released from one another. and thereby the strands are loosened and opened.
The fixation can then take place with systems and elements known per se, the material being paneled in a sieve belt damper with endless conveyor belts and steamed there at 120 C for 41/2 minutes. The material now goes continuously via a goods storage (slide) to a sieve drum washing system, the spray pipes and a squeezing unit are upstream, and is there at moderate temperatures (preferably at room temperature) rinsed and heavily squeezed. After passing through an avivage trough, the strand chains are dried in a sieve drum dryer, the strands are detached from one another and the finished yarn is rewound onto the bobbins of the tufting machine.
Under the conditions mentioned in the exemplary embodiment (number of yarns, number of strand chains and speed of goods), the same production rate in kg / hour as with the Knit-Deknit process is achieved in this way, but with significantly better printing effects (no crossing points, sharp prints). The lower the yarn count, however, the cheaper the production of finished yarn is compared to the knit-denit process.
An example of an advantageous apparatus arrangement for carrying out the present invention is illustrated in the diagram of FIGS. La to 1c given below. The reference symbols used here have the following meaning:

Immediately thereafter, the wet material is printed on both sides with relatively low-viscosity printing pastes on a printing machine using at least two opposing, deeply engraved printing roller pairs that have a pattern suitable for the subsequent repeatless effect.

<tb> 20.0 <SEP> cm3 <SEP> acetic acid <SEP> (60%). The textile material printed in this way is now continuously fed into a filter belt steamer while maintaining the original speed of 20 m / minute and steamed there for 4.5 minutes at 10 ° C. to fix the dye.
The after-treatment of the dyeing produced in this way is carried out, possibly with the interposition of a goods store (slide), in the further course of the continuous process in a drum screen washer with several drum screens under flowing liquor by cold rinsing with water and subsequent finishing and then by drying the Textiles on a sieve drum dryer using warm air. Finally, the strand chains are loosened from each other again and the irregularly colored yarn is rewound onto the bobbin form intended for the tufting machine.
Based on the yarn count of 2600 denier mentioned and a fabric speed of 20 m / minute, the same quantities (in kg / hour) of dyed goods are achieved in this way as with the Knit-Deknit process (with 4 tubular fabric strips next to each other) , but much more than when printing parallel Fadenscha ren. When using finer yarns, as they are z. B. are intended for knitted outerwear, however, according to the invention, the production of goods compared to the knit-denit process is significantly higher and thus also the economy.
On the orange base color, prints in brown and olive green tones result, which are characterized by a sharp stance, good print through and the complete lack of marking of intersections (which are always present with the knit-denit method), as well as a very appealing one Distinguish the space dyeing effect.
