Process for the preparation of a vivid violet fulling dye of the anthraehinone series. It has been found that vivid violet milled dyes of the anthraquinone series are obtained when anthraquinone derivatives of the composition are used

where x is bromine or -SO3H, A is hydrogen or methyl, B is hydrogen or, if A = methyl, is also methyl, with such phenols
which are substituted by a hydrocarbon with 4 to 8 carbon atoms, heated in the presence of acid-binding agents and the resulting dye bases, sulfated.
It is known that the class of 1-amino-4-arylaminoanthraquinones has provided technically valuable dyes. The dyes are red-tinged to green-tinged blue. Violet dyes are obtained if it is ensured that there is an ether residue in position 2.
In DRP No. 263423 (FP No. 447196, r.P. No. 26944/1911, AP No. 1038589) the representation of a violet dye is described, according to which 1-amino-2-bromo-4-p-toluido- Anthraquinone reacted by heating with alkali phenolate and the resulting base is sulfated. The dye still has a strong bluish tinge, is not very lively and bleeds the white wool that has been milled with it when it is fulled.
The dyes of SP Nos. 189647, 194096, 194097 (EP No. 483950, AP 2117569, FP No. 822780) which are obtained by reacting 1-amino-2-sulfo-4- (2 ', 6 '- dimethyl) - and (- 2', 4 ', 6' - trimethyl) - phenylaminoanthraquinone with polyhydric alcohols and their ethers and subsequent sulphonation are probably pure violet with great vividness, but today they can no longer be called milled dyes .
It has been suggested that the milled fastness of 1-amino-2-pheno.xy-4-arylamino-anthraquinone dyes (EP No. 477535, FP No. 823832, SP No. 1991 $ 9/90, AP No. 2113054 ) by substitution: to improve the aryl amino group with longer alkyl chains (C 8 to 20). The dyes dye wool in brilliant blue, especially red-blue tones.
One example mentions that when phenol is replaced by p-cresol, p-chlorophenol, 2-naphthol, purer blues are obtained.
The dyes of the present invention are distinguished from the previously known ones by the pure violet hue and the very good milled and lightfastness; they offer a combination of desirable properties that have not been encountered before.
Starting materials for the preparation of the new dyes are: 1-Amino-2-bromo-4- (2 ', 6'-climethyl) -phenyl aminoanthraehinone, 1-Amino-2-bromo-4- (2', 4 '; 6 '- trimethyl) -, (2', 3 ', 4', 6'-tetrainethyl) -phenyl-aminoanthraquinone and the corresponding 2-sulfonic acids, respectively. their alkali salts. The following phenols are used:
p-tert-butylphenol, p-sec-amylphenol, p-tert-amylphenol, p-cyclohexylphenol, p-iso-octylphenol, etc.
The dye bases are prepared by heating the starting materials in the reacting phenol itself or in a diluent such as nitrobenzene, di-p-tert-butyl-p = cresol, methylhexalin, in the presence of an acid-binding agent such as the hydro- xyden, carbonates iuid acetates of the alkali metals,
preferably of potassium and sodium. The temperatures for the implementation of the 2-bromine compounds are generally slightly lower than for the sulfonic acids. In all cases, the implementation can be completed at around 200 C within a reasonable period of time. In practice, can also be significantly lower temperature, z. B. at 140 C.
In the case of the 2 bromine compounds, the impending formation of higher molecular weight compounds can be prevented by increasing the alkali concentration.
The dye bases are obtained by diluting the melt with alcohol, whereupon they precipitate in crystalline form. A product that is also suitable for the manufacture of dyes is often found if the melt, which must not contain any water-insoluble solvent, is pressed into warm, dilute caustic soda and the precipitated base is filtered off.
For sulphonation, the dyestuff bases are dissolved in schiveic acid monohydrate and, if necessary after adding oleum, stirred at 20 to 50 ° C. until solubility in water is achieved. The dyes are obtained in the usual way by pouring into salt water, filtering and neutralizing.
The subject of the present patent is a process for the production of a lively violet fulling dye of the anthraquinone series, which is characterized in that 1-amino-4- (2 ', 4', 6'-trimethyl-anilido) -anthrachinone - 2 - sulfonic acid is heated with p - tert-butyl phenol in the presence of an acid binding agent and the resulting dye base is sulfonated.
In the example below, the parts are parts by weight.
Example: 15 parts of a 50% potassium hydroxide solution are introduced into 100 parts of molten p-tert: butylphenol and the temperature of the melt is driven to 180 ° C. while distilling off the water. Now 18 parts of the condensation product of 1-amino-4-bromine are added Anthraquinone-2-sulphonic acid and 2,4,6-trimethylaniline are added and the mixture is stirred at the specified temperature until a sample is completely insoluble in water.
After the temperature has dropped to 100 ° C., it is diluted with 150 parts of alcohol, cooled further to room temperature and the base is filtered off. The base is obtained in crystallized form; it dissolves in benzene pure violet :. The solution in concentrated sulfuric acid is purple, tinged red; she suggests adding formaldehyde after doing violet blue.
10 parts of this base are dissolved in 45 parts of a sulfuric acid which contains 9 1 / o free sulfuric anhydride. This solution is stirred at 40 ° C. until a sample has become completely soluble in water. The sulfonation is then poured into a mixture of ice and water, and the dye is precipitated by adding sodium chloride.
The new dye dissolves in water with a violet color, in concentrated sulfuric acid with a red color. The sulfuric acid solution turns blue when formaldehyde is added. The dye dyes nitrogen-containing fibers, such as wool, silk, tussah, nylon, from weakly acidic baths, vivid purple. The dyeings on wool have excellent wet fastness and are also lightfast.
