Process for increasing the granulability of ground metal compounds.
The invention relates to a method for increasing the granulability of ground metal compounds, in particular full metal ores or metal oxides.
The use of such a method comes z. B. in connection with the extraction of sulfuric acid from pyrite-containing ores in question. In such a case, as is known, pyrite ash is produced, which contains a relatively high percentage (up to 600/0) of iron. The sulfur still contained in this ash should be removed from the ashes in a furnace before the iron is extracted. Experience has shown that the removal of sulfur in the desired amount from the ashes can only be achieved if the latter is ground beforehand.
However, because of the slight formation of dust, such ground material is not well suited for further treatment, which is why there is a need to be able to bring the pyrite ash into a granulated state.
The invention is based on the knowledge that the granulability of ground metal compounds, in particular of metal ores or metal oxides, is significantly increased if an additive is added to them that increases their plasticity.
Such additives can be: plastic clay, loam, marl, sodium carbonate, sodium hydroxide and the like.
If it is an additive that is dry before it is added, it can be added to the material to be granulated, or, if necessary, after a special treatment has taken place. If, on the other hand, the substance to be added contains moisture and is naturally fine-grained, it is expediently added to the ground material to be granulated in a slurry-up form and with the amount of water necessary for the formation of granules. The additive can be slurried in special containers, whereby the amount of mixing water to be added depends on the fineness and the physical nature of the material to be used.
The amount of Maehwasser- can z. B. 10 to 14 O / o of the goods in question. The additive, which is brought into the form of a thin slurry in this way, can then be mixed in a rotating drum with, for example, ground pyrite, whereupon the desired granulation of the starting material can be achieved. By adding the additive in a slurried form, the costs and energy expenditure associated with prior drying and grinding of the additive can be saved.
When using the method according to the invention, the important advantage can be achieved that in the treatment of the granulated material, e.g. B. in a furnace for the purpose of obtaining iron, the granules become porous after expelling the moisture contained in the same. The resulting pores can then, for. B. easily get an oxidizing agent to the ferrous parts contained in the granules and the sulfur, which facilitates the desired Ent removal of the sulfur and the yield of iron.
The method according to the invention can be used in all cases where problems of the type mentioned arise in connection with the processing of metal ores, metal oxides and the like. Several of the additives listed above can also be added to a ground starting product.
