Adjustment device from outside the components ensuring the running precision of a watch. The maker of a watch generally judges its market value from the accuracy of its operation. This requirement, which is fairly rigorous for price watches, cannot however be applied in the strict sense of the word. for common watches, including millions of people, workers, sportsmen, etc. are used daily and would still like to own an affordable watch, everything! being of sufficient precision.
The watchmaking industry has sought to satisfy this desire by improving the quality of current watches by means of all kinds of improvements, such as, for example: waterproof case, anti-shock device, etc., so that their mechanism is capable of keeping running. precision, once they are properly adjusted.
This is precisely the means of obtaining in a practical manner the retouching of the setting which is lacking and which prevents the buyer from fully enjoying the good quality of the watch. Indeed, the adjustment of a watch of current manufacture, although carried out in the workshop, requires a touch-up from the moment when it is worn by the user.
In other words, new watches are well tuned in the manufacture and by the specialist, but the local circumstances, such as the fairly uniform ambient temperature of the workshop, the atmospheric conditions, the stationary test bench, etc., are completely different from those in which a watch is found as soon as it is worn by the user, as a result of climatic changes from one region to another, various movements depending on the occupations of the user , as well as a number of other factors which exert their influence on the regular operation of a watch.
Additional adjustment of watches in use is therefore essential. Most users make this adjustment themselves, not always being able to get to a clock.
The user first starts by setting the daily time by moving the hands forwards or backwards and normally ends up retouching the setting proper by opening the watch and operating the racket. The opening of the watch and the adjustment is most often carried out by means of a penknife, which has the result of breaking the mechanism, the water resistance of the watch disappearing in the long run and ultimately the quality. of the watch is lost, much to the dissatisfaction of the user, and even the manufacturer.
The present invention relates to a device for adjusting from the outside, members ensuring the running precision of a watch, characterized in that it comprises a toothed sector, replacing the. usual arrow of the adjustment racket, this toothed sector being. in connection at least mediately with an operating screw, the shaft of which extends towards the outside of the box through a sealing device to end flush with the latter by a slotted screw head , so that the operation of the screw head by a fraction of a turn in one direction or the other has the effect of adjusting the rate, without having to open the watch to carry out the adjustment.
The appended drawing represents, in a schematic manner, an embodiment of the device according to the invention, given by way of example.
Fig. 1 shows a partial plan view of the interior of a watch fitted with a adjustment device from the outside.
Fig. 2 shows, in elevation, a fragment of the middle part showing the head of the operating screw.
Fig. 3 gives a detail of the buckle of a watch strap, the tongue of which has the flattened end in the form of a screwdriver for the operation of the screw head.
In the embodiment shown, the usual arrow of the adjustment racket is replaced by a toothed sector 1, engaged with a pinion 2 on the axis of which is mounted the toothed wheel 3 meshing with a worm 4 wedged on a tree 5.
This shaft 5 extends outwards from the middle part 6 to end with a slotted head 7. The shaft 5 is provided, for this purpose, with a sealing device comprising a coil spring 8 which constantly pushes it towards the inside of the box by strongly pressing the head 7 of the endless screw against a waterproof washer 9.
For the operation of the shaft 5, the head 7 carries, on the outside, a groove or slot 10 allowing a screwdriver or similar tool to be introduced therein. For all intents and purposes and to always have a screwdriver within reach, in the case of wristwatches, a buckle with mid pin 11 with a flattened tip can be provided, as shown in. fig. 3. If necessary, you can also use, for example, the point of a penknife.
With the device described, the adjustment of the components ensuring the precision of the running of the watch is carried out as follows. The running of the watch is observed at regular intervals, for example by listening to the radio news and the time exact. If the. watch is delayed, head 7 is turned in the direction of arrow A (fig. 2) by a fraction of a turn, and if it advances, the same operation is carried out in the opposite direction, ie in the direction of arrow R. After a few adjustments made as indicated, it is possible to obtain flawless operation of the watch without risking the reported damage inherent in an adjustment comprising the opening of the watch as is commonly practiced.
The fact that the watches provided with the device described will be; being protected from the above-mentioned damage will constitute a decisive reason for giving preference to the acquisition of a watch provided with the adjustment device according to the present invention.
