Device for holding removable dental prosthesis appliances in the mouth.
The invention relates to a device for maintaining removable dental prosthesis appliances in the mouth, which is characterized in that it comprises a male part forming a slide, being welded to the metal crown of a healthy tooth, and of a female part embedded in the dental prosthesis device and carrying a slide which slides on the slide of the male part and is held in place by the pressure exerted at the base of this slide by a rounded head member pushed by a helical spring .
The purpose of this device is to allow the easy installation and removal of the dental appliance by the person who wears it and to make it impossible to move or accidentally remove it, thus providing complete safety.
The appended drawing represents, schematically and by way of example, one embodiment of the invention.
Fig. 1 is an elevational view of the complete device.
Fig. 2 is the cut along the line
A-B of fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a section taken along line E-F of FIG. 2.
Fig. 4 is a horizontal section of an ariant.
Fig. 5 shows a vertical sectional view along the line G-H of FIG. 2, the female part ready to be placed on the male part (external elevation view).
Fig. 6 is a cross section of the male part.
Fig. 7 is a cross section of a variant.
Fig. S is a side view and in bolus of a member which can replace the ball pressing on the slide.
According to the embodiment illustrated in FIG. 1, 9 and 3, the male part of the device consists of a bar 1 having a section in the form of a dovetail or any other suitable playing the role of a slide and extended back over its entire lead by a part 2 with a wall rounded interior and thinned towards its end. The shape of this part has been studied to come to be probed on the metal crown of the healthy tooth 3 or abutment tooth (indicated in dotted lines) it offers a large contact surface which ensures a perfect weld.
The female part is embedded in the prosthesis device (shown in dotted lines in fig. 2); it consists of a block 4 having, on the side coming into contact with the male part, a slide 5 whose section is appropriate to that of the slide on which it must slide. The sliding wall of the slide 5, on the side of the extension 2, is shorter than the opposite wall and is set back to allow the passage of this extension.
At the lower part of the female block 4 is hollowed out a conduit 6 containing a rounded-headed member consisting of a ball 7 pushed by a spring 8 with helical coils. This duct opens on one side into the slide 5 through an orifice which can be narrowed (see fig. 5) in order to limit the exit of the ball and is closed on the other side by a screw 9 on which s' supports the spring 8. The duct is in communication with the outside via a channel 10 opening out to the surface of the prosthesis apparatus; this channel is used for washing the duct, the ball and the spring.
The female block 4 may present over part of its height, FIG. 1 and 2, a projection 11 for fixing a plate artificially reproducing the front face of a tooth; this plate masks the part of the block which lies against the abutment tooth. The rest of the block is embedded in the prosthesis device. Depending on the material used for the manufacture of this device, the block may be completely embedded in it.
It is obvious that the screw 9 could be replaced by a plate 12 screwed onto the sliding block (fig. 4) or by any other adjustable stop or not.
Likewise, any other rounded-headed member such as that illustrated at 13, fig. 4, 8 and 9, could be used in place of the ball.
The slide and the slide may have a T-shaped section or any other corresponding and appropriate.
The device is held in place by the ball 7 which puts pressure on the slide and causes the lateral faces of the latter to press against those of the slide, thus preventing any accidental detachment. The pressure of the ball is made elastic by the helical spring 8.
The main members of the device will preferably be made of stainless metal, but they can be made of any other material as well as any suitable shape and size.
