As can be seen in these figures, the apparatus consists of a body proper, of a valve holder part, of a movable valve, of the valve coil spring, of the valve opening adjustment cap. the valve, a locking clip for the valve stem, a plano-convex lenticular plug and a plug for closing said valve.
The body consists of a cylindrical vertical sleeve 1 terminating, in its upper part, with an externally threaded portion 2 located above two symmetrical lateral openings 3, the lower end of the body 1 having the shape of a frustoconical end piece. 4.
In its middle part, the body 1 is drilled transversely to give rise to two diametrically opposed horizontal cylindrical conduits 5 and 6, the latter comprising an external thread over a large part of its length as well as an internal thread.
The threaded head 2 has internally, at a level below the openings 3, a chamfered shoulder 7 serving as a seat for a plano-convex valve 8 whose mobility is governed by the tightening of a threaded cap 9 screwed onto the head 2 and comprising inside a central stud 10 whose rounded end comes to bear on the flat face of the valve 8 in the closed position (fig. 1). In the open position (fig. 2), the openings 3 allow the escape of gases which, coming from the interior, lift the valve 8.
Still internally, the transverse sleeve 5 comprises, at its base, a flange 11 provided, on the internal side, with a chamfered groove 12 intended to serve as a seat for the valve 13.
Said double-acting cylindrical valve 13 comprises an upper flange 14 bevelled in correspondence with the chamfering of the groove 11, a lower flange 15, also bevelled, but in the opposite direction to its counterpart 14, and a rod 16 surrounded by a helical spring 17, the end of the rod 16 comprising a constriction 18.
The valve 13 is introduced into the body 1 through the sleeve 6 and its upper flange 14 fits into the seat 12.
In Ie the internal thread of the duct 6 is screwed the valve holder part 19 constituted by a cylindrical end piece, externally threaded, in correspondence with the thread of the sleeve 6, at its external end and closed, at this end, by a plate 20, perforated by the slots 21 which internally carries a cylindrical sleeve 22 surrounding the central bore 23 and serving as a guide for the valve stem 16. On the outside, the plate 20 may have two small studs 24 facilitating its screwing and unscrewing.
The internal end of the cylinder 19, which is placed at the level of the beginning of the duct 6, carries a chamfered groove 25 serving as a seat for the lower flange 15 of the valve 13.
The rod 16 emerges outside the cylinder 19 through the bore 23 and passes through the central bore 26 of the bottom 27 of the threaded cylindrical cap 28 which is screwed onto the external thread of the sleeve 6. This bottom 27 comprises, in addition to the central bore 26, slots 29 serving as passageways for the outlet gases.
The constriction 18 of the emerging end of the rod 16 receives a clip 30 allowing the locking of the valve when unscrewing the cap 28.
During use of the device, the tip 4 is inserted into the tip of the mask or of the probe connector (not shown), applied to the patient.
The sleeve 5 is connected to the source of gas to breathe.
Le chapeau 9 se trouve vissé à fond et assure la fermeture parfaite du clapet 8;
Le chapeau 28 est vissé à fond, ce qui libère intégralement l'élasticité du ressort 17 et, partant, autorise le mouvement de va-et-vient de la soupape 13 entre les sièges 12 et 25;
Au début du cycle, la soupape se trouve appuyée sur le siège 12;
This explained, the operation of the apparatus is as follows
1 "In controlled or assisted breathing (fig. 8 and 9):
The cap 9 is screwed on completely and ensures the perfect closing of the valve 8;
The cap 28 is screwed on completely, which completely releases the elasticity of the spring 17 and, therefore, allows the back and forth movement of the valve 13 between the seats 12 and 25;
At the start of the cycle, the valve is pressed on the seat 12;
On arrival under pressure of the gases to be breathed through the pipe 5 (fig. 8), the head of the valve is thrown back to go to support on the throat 25 and the gases can thus penetrate into the mask or Ia. patient probe through nozzle 4.
Ceci constitue le temps inspiratoire. This constitutes the inspiratory time.
When the gas pressure is suddenly released (fig. 9), the valve is brought forward on the seat 12 by the spring 17 and the gases rejected by the patient escape through the orifices 21 and 19.
Ceci constitue le temps expiratoire. This constitutes the expiratory time.
Le cycle peut être recommencé à volonté. The cycle can be restarted at will.
2 En inhalation (fig. 10 et 11):
Le chapeau 28 se trouve partiellement dévissé, sans quitter le manchon 6 et de façon à bloquer intégralement la soupape sur le siège 25 à l'aide du clip 30;
Par contre, le chapeau 9, lui aussi partiellement dévissé, sans quitter la tête 2, libère le mouvement du clapet 8;
A l'inspiration spontanée du malade (fig. 10), l'aspiration des gaz à respirer, d'une part, la pression atmosphérique, d'autre part, viennent faire coller spontanément le clapet 8 sur son siège 7 et le malade absorbe la quantité de gaz qu'il est en son pouvoir de respirer;
A l'expiration (fig. 10 and 11):
The cap 28 is partially unscrewed, without leaving the sleeve 6 and so as to fully block the valve on the seat 25 using the clip 30;
On the other hand, the cap 9, also partially unscrewed, without leaving the head 2, releases the movement of the valve 8;
On the patient's spontaneous inspiration (fig. 10), the aspiration of gas to breathe, on the one hand, atmospheric pressure, on the other hand, spontaneously stick the valve 8 on its seat 7 and the patient absorbs the amount of gas it is in its power to breathe;
On expiration (fig. 11), the force of the exhaled gases is sufficient to lift the valve 8 and let said gases escape through the side openings 3.
The cycle is renewed with each respiratory movement.
An additional assembly provides a non-return system preventing any backward penetration of exhaled gases into the supply channel 5.
This assembly consists in inserting, between the sleeve 5 and the gas inlet connection G, an inspiration valve S of the anesthesia machine which has been the subject, by the same author, of a patent. of invention, dated October 15, 1962 under number 1.347.054.
The foregoing description is in no way limiting, both as regards the number and the shapes, dimensions, proportions and relative positions of the constituent elements of the recommended device, preferably obtained by pressure molding of a suitable plastic material.
I1 can be used any known or new materials allowing perfect sterilization and we can have recourse to all molding or industrial machining processes without departing from the scope of the present invention.
