I>a b c d</I> (fig. 4), de longueur <I>a b</I> (fig.
Les parois latérales de cette rai nure sont dentées suivant les lignes<I>e f g</I> lc, <I>i</I> <I>... e'<B>f</B> g' A' i'</I> (fig. 4).
2). I>e f</I> g, <I>e' f'</I> g'.
Les particules restées dans les alvéoles triangulaires <I>e f</I> g <I>... e' f' g' ...
Electric arc working process and machine for implementing this process. The present invention relates to work, that is to say to welding and / or cutting of metals by means of an electric arc.
According to a known method and arrangements, steam is sent, preferably under pressure, into a special hard solder electrode which has its internal channel. The pressure of this vapor can be relatively low for welding work and relatively high for cutting. In its simplest embodiment, this electrode is cylindrical and hollow, made of carbon or, preferably, of an easily oxidizable metal, for example aluminum. The water vapor circulates axially in the electrode and leaves the latter on the side adjacent to the part to be treated. The heat produced simultaneously by the electric arc and by the oxidation of the metal or carbon constituting the electrode is sufficient to cause the weld.
The water gives up its oxygen to the metal or the carbon which oxidizes and the hydrogen is thus released. If the pressure of the water vapor is sufficient, the calorific action thus obtained is able to move the molten metal away from the part to be treated, so due to the cutting is carried out under good conditions.
In order to ensure the continuity of the weld or of the cut, it is desirable to avoid wear by oxidation of the nozzle formed by the electrode. For this purpose, according to the object process of the invention, is projected into the region of the arc, through a nozzle, a pulverulent material capable of sustaining an exothermic chemical reaction.
This material may in particular be an oxidizable metal, such as aluminum or a mixture of one or more metals, or of metals and other substances, such, due to metal oxides, carbon, sulfur or carbon. pulverized phosphorus, etc., that is to say a mixture of pulverized substances of which at least one, easily oxidizable, is chosen so as to produce the desired effect, that is to say a strong exotherm. It can also be a mixture containing filler metal.
The invention also comprises a machine for implementing the method. This machine comprises a nozzle and means for projecting a pulverulent material through this nozzle. These means may include an endless screw or a special paddle wheel.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the machine for welding and / or cutting, object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is an elevation, seen from the front. that is to say on the side of the electrode.
The <U> fi-. </U> 2 is a side elevation in partial section taken along line 2-2 of FIG. 1.
The fi-. 3 is. a horizontal section along line 3--3 of fig. 2. FIG. 4 is a development of the periphery of part of the rim of the wheel.
Fig. 5 is a longitudinal section of the electrode.
Figs. 6 and 7 are diagrams showing respectively the supply of the electrode and of auxiliary electrodes which the machine can comprise, in two-phase and three-phase electric current.
In the embodiment -represented in FIGS. 1 to 5, the machine comprises a table 1 intended to receive the parts to be welded or cut. These parts are represented by two blades ;, metal 2 and 3 to be joined by a weld line 4. They move on the table 1 in the direction of the arrow <B> f </B> l. Table I. can be made of insulating or metallic material, in which case the parts are separated from it by an insulating gasket 5.
Parts 2 and 3 are connected to one of the poles of the electric current source, for example by a clamp 6 (fig. 2).
The other pole of this source is connected at 7 (fig. 1, 2, 5) to the electrode 8. This is metallic and is crossed from end to end by a longitudinal channel 9 (fig. 5). It ends with a tip 10, screwed onto its rod and very resistant, in particular to heat, preferably made of tungsten.
This end piece 10 is pierced with a small orifice 11, of any shape having a surface area of the order of one or a few square millimeters, and which is connected without protrusions or cusps by a smooth hole 12 to the smooth longitudinal channel 9 of the electrode, so that a particle of material passing through this electrode in the direction of arrow f2 (fig. 5) cannot come up against any stop surface.
The electrode 8 is connected, by a tubing 13, made of rubber or similar material, allowing in particular a longitudinal displacement, to a connector 14 which carries a cylindrical cafter 15 in which this connector opens tangentially (FIG. 2).
The cylindrical casing 15 is permanently fixed to the table 1. It carries a hopper 16 containing the pulverulent material 17, intended to be ejected through the orifice 11 of the tip 10 of the electrode 8. This hopper 16 has at its upper end a pre-seen opening for filling. This opening is. provided with a cover 18. The walls of the hopper 16 are sufficiently inclined to allow the pulverulent material to descend by gravity. A stirring device 19, comprising a helical ramp actuated by a crank 20, makes it possible to break up bridges or other obstructions which could form.
The bottom of the hopper opens into the housing 15 through a rectangular opening <I> abcd </I> (fig. 4), of length <I> ab </I> (fig. 2 and 4) of the order of d 'one or a few centimeters and the width h, also of the order of one or a few centimeters, is slightly less than that 12 of the rim 21a of a wheel 21, mounted to rotate in the housing 15. The area of this opening is therefore of the order of one or a few hundred square meters, that is to say sufficient to ensure a regular supply by gravity of the wheel 21 of powdered material contained in the hopper 16. .
The wheel 21 comprises a hub 22, keyed on a rotary shaft 23, mounted in bearings 24, carried by the flanges of the housing. This shaft 23 is driven at a high speed, adapted to the pulverulent material used, by an electric motor 25, carried by the. table 1 and coupled to the shaft 2 "). When a very high speed of the wheel 21 is required, a multi-folding gear train can be provided, interposed between the motor 25 and the shaft 23.
The width 12 of the rim 20 of the. wheel 21 is such that this wheel rotates in the housing 15 with a clearance appropriate to. the pulverulent material used. A first groove 26, of depth x (FIG. 3) is formed in this rim. The side walls of this groove are toothed along the lines <I> efg </I> lc, <I> i </I> <I> ... e '<B> f </B> g' A ' i '</I> (fig. 4).
The outer vertices <I> fh </I> j <I> ... f '</I> lz' <I> j '</I> of these toothings are located in the vicinity of the side faces of the rim and their interior vertices <I> egi ... e 'g' </I> i 'are if killed on two parallel and coaxial circles, spaced by a distance J (fig. 3 and 4), substantially corresponding to the internal dimensions of the connector 14 to which the electrode 8 is connected.
In addition, the very oblique faces <I> ef, </I> g <I> h, c 'f', </I> g 'h' ... face the direction of rotation of the wheel, indicated using the arrows f 3 <B> (f </B> il-. 2 and -1).
Between the two circles limiting the den tures inside, the groove 26 is deepened by small cells 27, separated by radial partitions 28 (Fig. 3 and 4-) forming pallets.
The housing <B> 15 </B> is provided with an air outlet orifice 15a disposed upstream of the hopper and it is. extended at its lower part by a chute 29. This bowl has an inclined bottom 30 and has a drain opening closed by a flap 31.
Preferably, in order to prevent the passage of current from the electrode 8, by the pulverulent material passing through this electrode and by the wheel 21 and the casing 15 to the table 1. the surfaces of this wheel, in particular those of its rim 20 and those of the casing 1.5, are coated with a varnish or another insulating layer or made of insulating material. However, the energization, at the potential of the electrode 8, of these components, and even of the table 1 would be without serious inconvenience, this potential being generally low, on condition that no short-circuit can occur. between table 1 and workpieces 2 and 3.
The motor power supply circuit 25 is slaved to the welding or cutting circuit, provided with a switch 32 (fig. 3). A winding 33, shunted by an appropriate resistor 33r1 is arranged in this welding or cutting circuit and actuates a switch 35, placed in the circuit 36 for supplying the motor 25 and which is kept open at rest by an elastic device. rap pel 3-1. So the engine is. powered and the wheel 21 driven as long as the current flows between the electrode 8 and the parts; 2 and 3.
The machine is completed by a nozzle 37, provided with a valve or a similar member 38, which can be controlled by a relay similar to that described. This nozzle, which opens above the parts, jute behind the electrode 8, makes it possible to bring to the welding point, if desired, water vapor, preferably at low pressure (for example 1, 7 atm.) For welding and at higher pressure (eg 1.2 to 1.5 atm.) For cutting.
The operation is as follows: As soon as the switch 32 of the supply circuit for the electrode 8 is closed, this electrode is under voltage with respect to parts 2-3. Using, for example, a conductive part, a short-circuit is established between the electrode 8 and these parts, which has the effect of immediately closing the supply circuit of the motor 25.
The wheel 21 is driven in the direction of arrow f3 (fig. 2). However, through the opening <I> abcd, </I> the hopper 16 pours powdered material onto the rim 20. A part of this material falls directly into the cells 27, another part falls in line with the triangles such as <I> ef </I> g, <I> e 'f' </I> g '. As a result of the very rapid rotation of the wheel, the oblique facets <I> ef, </I> g <I> h ... e 'f', g 'h' ... </I> meet the particles in the course of fall and project them forwards and towards the median plane of the rim, that is to say towards the cells 27, which are thus completely filled when they cross the edge bc of the opening of the hopper.
The rest of the fallen particles more or less fill the trianular alveoli <I> ef </I> cg <I> ... e 'f' g '... </I> As the wheel continues to turn, the particles very fine driven are subjected to a very large centrifugal force due to the very high speed of rotation. of the wheel.
The particles which have remained in the triangular cells <I> ef </I> g <I> ... e 'f' g '..., </I> and which, moreover, accomplish a path of no use, are retained there against this cen trifuge force by the wall of the housing 15, until they come to the right of the chute 29, where they are then collected to be seen, from time to time, in the hopper 16.
On the other hand, the very fine particles which are dropped directly or which have been projected into the cells 27, pass in front of the tangential inlet of the fitting 14 and are projected there at very high speed, sorting out the combined actions of the centrifugal force which detaches them from the bottom of the cells and the tangential inertia force. The speed communicated to these fine dusts is such that they form a real jet ejected with force, and without the possibility of catching, through the orifice 11 of the electrode.
It should also be noted that, in certain cases, during operation of the machine, the temperature of the nozzle 10 may become such that, at certain speeds, a real liquid jet of molten particles is ejected by this nozzle.
Upon start-up and as a result of the already high temperature produced by the electric arc, an exothermic reaction takes place. between the oxidizable particles of aluminum or others contained in the pulverulent jet which flows at high speed and the oxide (s) mixed with these particles, or the oxygen of the water vapor admitted through the nozzle 37. The formation of alumina, for example, causes a considerable rise in temperature and thus contributes powerfully to ensuring a high speed of welding or cutting and the continuity of the exothermic reaction after start-up, while making it possible to lower the intensity of the electric current .
It is therefore a true electro-aluminothermic operation, without appreciable wear of the nozzle.
As we have just said, in the case of admission of water vapor through the nozzle <B> 37, </B> the oxygen of this water vapor combines immediately with the oxidizable powders and the hy The remaining drogen rises above the weld point, forming a protective layer around it and eventually burning a small distance from that point. In the case of cutting, hydrogen helps, by its pressure, to produce the slit.
As we have seen, the nozzle can be used in conjunction with an inlet of pressurized steam. For example, the water vapor is brought to the part to be treated by a hollow tube connected to the container where it is produced, near the end of the nozzle, preferably behind the latter with respect to the nozzle. sense of movement.
For this purpose, the pipe carrying the water vapor can be connected, in a fixed or adjustable manner, to the device (electrode clamp) serving to guide the nozzle, so as to form an acute angle with it. . This arrangement is particularly interesting for cutting, the metal at high temperature being not only melted by the arc and the exothermic reaction, but also burnt, at least in part, by combination with the oxygen of the water vapor. , then removed by pressurized water vapor. The steam supply can be regulated by a relay,
so that it is only admitted when the machine is in action. It is also possible to arrange the water vapor supply pipe in such a way that the vapor itself drags the pulverized material therefrom and, in this case, the mechanical means described and provided for spraying this material can be omitted.
The device described makes it possible to reduce the ejection orifice practically as much as desired and, consequently, to obtain a very fine working line, despite a flow rate. of important powdery material. It also makes it possible to eject this pulverulent material (which may possibly melt as soon as it leaves the electrode) with considerable force, which has the effect of penetrating then deep into the working parts and a tight bond between the parts. combined # in the case of welding, and, in the case of cutting, increased speed and smoothness of cut.
In addition, the ejection speed obtained e, #, t greater than the speed of rearward propagation of the exothermic reaction, and any danger of explosion in the device is thus eliminated.
In certain cases, in particular with two-phase or three-phase current, the electrode 8 can be combined with a second electrode 39, preferably made of tungsten (fig. 6).
Or, can also cause the. powdery material by a Sri nozzle, not serving as an electrode and preferably connected to. ground, and combined with a single electrode yes with two electrodes 40 and 41 (fi-. <B> 7), </B> preferably made of tungsten. The electrodes can be placed in a block of refractory material which they pass through, the nozzle then being formed by the block itself which has an opening for the ejection of the pulverulent material, or by a small pipe fitted in this block. .
The side walls of the groove 26 may have a different path than the zigzag one described and shown. According to a variant, the zigzag teeth of the groove 26 can be omitted, the rim then not comprising (read the cells separated by pallets. For hand welding, the electrode 3 can be extended by a flexible tube.
