B. Lö sungen derselben in Äthylalkohol.

Process for the preparation of the new a- [benzimidazyl- (2)] - 'ss- [N- (dimethyl-aminoethyl) - henzimidazyl- (2)] - ethylene. It was found that the new c4- [benzimidazyl- (2)], fl. [N- (dimethyl - # amino-ethyl) -benzimidazyl- (2)] -ethylene can be produced if a, ss-di- [benzimidazyl- (2)
] - treated ethylene with an amount of dimethyl-ss-chloroethylamine or a salt of the latter sufficient to form the N-monosubstitution product.
The a, ss-di- [benzimidazyl- (2)] -ethylene to be used as the starting material can be prepared by known processes, for example by reacting an acid of the formula HOOC-CH = CII-COOH with o-phenylenediamine. The process can be carried out in such a way that dimethyl-s-chloroethylamine or its chlorohydrate is allowed to act on a solution of the α, f3-di- [benzimidazyl- (2)] -ethylene in the heat.
For 1 mole of the starting material, more than 1 mole, but preferably less than 2 moles, preferably about 1.25 to 1.5 moles of dimethyl-f3-ehloroethyl-amine, is advantageously used. Since the di-imidazole to be used as the starting material is sparingly soluble in most solvents, it is advantageous to use solutions of its more easily soluble alkali salts, e.g. B. Lö solutions of the same in ethyl alcohol. The implementation is expediently carried out at the boiling point of the solvent.
Depending on the chosen reaction conditions, the a- [benzimid-azyl- (2)]. # Fl_ [N - (dimethyl-aminoethyl) -benz- imidazyl- (2)] -ethylene of varying amounts of starting material or N, N'-disubstitution be accompanied. Due to its different solubility, the a- [Benzimidazyl- (2)] - @ ss [N- (dimethyl-amino-ethyl) -benzimidazyl- (2)] - ethylene can be separated from the resulting mixture without further res. will.
The new a- [Benzimidazyl- (2)] -ss- [N- (dimethyl, - aminoethyl), - benzimidazyl- (2)] - ethylene forms a light powder, the solution of which in alcohol fluoresces violet blue. It has an affinity for cellulose fiber and can be used as op tables bleach, z.
B. for cellulose materials, are advantageous; in combination with cleaning agents such as soaps or salts of sulfonated benzimidazoles substituted on the 2-carbon atom by higher alkyl radicals.
Example: To a boiling solution of 52 parts of a, ss-di- [benzimidazyl- (2)] - ethylene in 350 parts of ethyl alcohol and 110 parts of 30% sodium hydroxide solution is added within 2 to 3 hours a solution of 44 parts of dimethyl # -chlorethylamine hydrochloride, dissolved in 300 parts of ethyl alcohol, was added dropwise. The mixture is kept at the boil for about 2 hours, small amounts of by-products are filtered off, water is added to the hot solution until it becomes slightly cloudy, and it is allowed to cool.
The deposited condensation product is filtered off and washed with dilute aqueous alcohol. It can be cleaned via the hydrochloride.
The a- [benzimidazyl- (2)] - ss- [N- (dimethyl-aminoethyl) -benzimidazyl- (2)] -ethylene of the formula obtained in this way
EMI0002.0012
forms a light powder, the solution of which in alcohol fluoresces violet blue.
It can be used, for example, as follows: 100 parts of a molten soap mass, containing for example 60% fatty acid, are mixed with 0.01 to 0.5 parts of a- [Benzimidazyl- (2)] -. (! - [N - (methyl-aminoethyl) -benzimid-azyl- (2)] - ethylene is stirred in. After the mass has solidified, a soap-like preparation is obtained.
A cellulose material washed with this preparation has a whiter look than one with only. Soap alone washed material. For easier distribution, the imidazole derivative can also be dissolved beforehand in a little alcoholic sodium hydroxide solution or in alcohol alone or in another water-miscible solvent and added to the soap in the form of this solution.
It can also be mixed with a liquid or melted, free fatty acid first and then produced in a usual way a soap-like preparation by neutralizing the fatty acid. will.
