Pour la réalisation de l'invention, un milieu formant solvant ou véhicule et conte nant de l'eau et 20 % environ d'alcool éthy lique peut être additionné de 0,2 % environ de chlorophylle et d'environ 0,25 % d'acétal. D'autres compositions ou milieux peuvent contenir les produits suivants: bromal, envi ron 0,25 % ; paraldéhyde, environ 0,10 % ;
Process for cooling stale air. The present invention relates to a method for cooling stale air and in particular the air of an enclosed space, such as recreation or entertainment premises.
The object of the invention is to create a process for cooling the air which can be applied easily, efficiently and economically, for example in conjunction with an air conditioning process, and the effects of which are easily controllable.
The method forming the subject of the invention is characterized in that the air is brought into contact. with a composition containing at least one aliphatic aldehyde with a nun carbon condensation greater than six.
When using several aldehyde aliphatics as defined above, at least one can be substituted by at least one halogen atom.
In addition to said aldehyde, the composition used may also contain chlorophyl.
By chlorophyll is meant not only the chemical substance called chlorophyll which is considered to be a mixture of chlorophyll a (05, H 7 z 0; N, Mg) and chlorophyll b (C,, 11711 01 NI Mg) , but also commercial chlorophyll which is an extract of chlorophyll plants. In addition, chlorophyll may contain copper to retain its color.
To carry out the invention, one can use a composition containing chlorophyll and an aldehyde compound such as acetal dehyde, paraldehyde, caproaldehyde, la. crotonaldehy, methylacolein, ethylacolein, bromal C Sr., CHO, chloral C Cl ;, CHO, butylchloral CH., CH Cl C Cl. CHO. As mentioned above, these compounds can be used alone or in compatible combinations.
In addition, the proportions in which they can be employed can vary from 0.03% to about 0.5% and more particularly from 0.1% to 0.25% based on the overall composition. The concentration will of course depend on the properties of the compound or the combination of compounds which is used. The proportion of chlorophyll can vary from about 0.1% to about 0.4% and particularly satisfactory results have been obtained with a concentration of 0.3% relative to the composition.
The cooling of the air can be achieved by bringing the air into contact with the cooling composition in solid or liquid form. Contact can take place by passing air over the suitably placed composition and when the composition is in liquid form, for example in solution, the composition can be dispersed in air by passing air over it. a body impregnated with the solution or by spraying the solution into the air.
On the other hand, the composition can be absorbed or adsorbed by a suitable support with which the air to be cooled is brought into contact.
For carrying out the invention, a medium forming a solvent or vehicle and containing water and approximately 20% of ethyl alcohol may be added with approximately 0.2% of chlorophyll and approximately 0.25% of chlorophyll. 'acetal. Other compositions or media may contain the following products: bromal, approximately 0.25%; paraldehyde, about 0.10%;
crotonaldehyde, about 0.10%; acetaldehyde, about 0.25% and in combination: paraldehyde, bromal and acetal in approximately equal proportions of 0.10% for each product.
The method described, used with the aforementioned compositions, makes it possible to significantly improve the state of the air, particularly in an enclosed space. When chlorophyll is found dispersed in the air together with the ingredients mentioned above, it exerts a significantly refreshing effect on the air and on those who breathe it. This refreshed air gives the people who breathe it a feeling of well-being, even when it concerns the stale air of an enclosed space, for example a room without sufficient ventilation.
It is believed that the cooling effect of chlorophyll together with other compounds is due to an action on the actual components of the air.
A particularly suitable field of application of the process is that of air conditioning. In air conditioning installations, the air frequently acquires a particular rancid character which must be due to odors which are not perceptible in the normal sense of smell. But even when these odors are of very low intensity, they can have a depressing effect which can be eliminated by treating the air by the method described.
It has further been found that odors, whether or not they are perceptible from air conditioning systems, are due at least in part to bacteria or mold which develop in solid deposits on gaskets, filters, pipe walls. , condensation vessels and drainage channels in the absence of natural light and which exert a putrefactive action resulting in an unpleasant odor.
Another source of odor is the absorption by the dust deposited on the filters and the walls of the pipes of the odors collected and released by the air circulating in the circuit. Other sources of odors are insulating materials, adhesives, filter materials, viscous and especially corroded metal surfaces. The cumulative effect of these odors, even not perceptible to the smell, can cause a feeling of depression and the invention makes it possible to correct or eliminate these odors.
