Process for cooling stale air. The invention relates to a method for cooling stale air, in particular the air in an enclosed space.
The object of the invention is to create a process for cooling stale air which can be applied easily, efficiently and economically, for example in conjunction with an air conditioning process, and the effects of which can be easily controlled. .
The process forming the subject of the invention is characterized in that the air is brought into contact with a compound of formula RC- X, where R represents a good hydrocarbon group comprising from 5 to 19 carbon atoms and X a set of atoms such as C - X is able to generate a COOH radical by oxidation. These compounds can be used alone or in compatible mixtures, and advantageously together with chlorophyll.
The method is especially applicable in enclosed spaces such as recreation or entertainment areas.
By chlorophyll is meant not only the substance called chlorophyll which is considered to be a mixture of chlorophyll a (Cz5 H, z 05 N4 Mg) and chlorophyll b (C55 H ", OB N, , Mg), but also commercial chlorophyll which is an extract of chlorophyll plants. In addition, chlorophyll may contain copper to retain its color.
Among the compounds of the type specified, there may be used, for example: 3-hexene-1-ol, 3-hexene-1-al, 2,4-nonadiene-1-ol, 2,6-no-nadiene -1-al, paratolyl-acetaldehyde, phenylacetaldehyde, phenoxyacetaldehyde, beta-hexyl-acrolein, beta-propyl-acrolein, betabutyl-acrolein,
phytol, hexadienal, betaphenyl-amyl-acrolein (aldehyde amyl-cinnamic). These substances are advantageously used in the form of dispersions in solvents or other diluents, their proportions then being able to vary from approximately 0.03% to approximately 0.5% and more particularly from 0.1% to 0.25% relative to at. the overall composition. The concentration will of course depend on the properties of the compound or the combination of compounds which is used.
The proportion of chlorophyll can vary from 0.1% to approximately 0.4% and particularly satisfactory results have been obtained with a concentration of 0.2 ro with respect to the composition.
The cooling of the air can be achieved by bringing the air into contact with the composition in solid or liquid form. Contact can take place by passing air over the suitably disposed composition, and when the composition is in liquid form, for example in solution, the composition can be dispersed in the air by passing the composition. air onto a body impregnated with the solution or by spraying the solution into the air.
On the other hand, the composition can be absorbed or adsorbed by a suitable support with which the air to be cooled is brought into contact. An exemplary embodiment of the invention is given below.
A solvent or vehicle medium containing water and about 20% ethyl alcohol may be added to about 0.25% of 2-hexene-1-al. Other compositions or analogous media may contain the following products: phenylacetaldehyde, about 0.25%; beta-hexylacolein, about 0.10%; phytol, approximately 0.25 70; and in combination:
beta-hexylacolein, phenyl-acetaldehyde and 2-hexene-1-al in approximately equal proportions of 0.10%. These compositions may contain as additional constituent an amount of approximately. 0.25% chloro phyll which increases its efficiency.
The process described, used with the aforementioned com positions, makes it possible to significantly improve the state of the air, particularly in a closed space. When the aforementioned ingredients are dispersed in the air, they exert a distinctly cooling effect on the air and on those who breathe it. They give people who breathe the treated air a feeling of well-being, even when the air in an enclosed space is polluted, for example in a room without sufficient ventilation.
It is believed that the cooling effect of chlorophyll in conjunction with other compounds is due to one. action on the components of the air itself.
A particularly suitable field of application of the process is that of air conditioning. In air conditioning installations, the air frequently acquires a particular rancid character which must be due to odors which are hardly perceptible in the normal sense of smell. But, even when these odors are of low intensity, they can have a depressing effect which can be eliminated by treating the air with the method described.
It has furthermore been found that odors, whether or not they are perceptible from air conditioning systems, are due at least in part to bacteria and mold which develop in the solid deposits on the gaskets, filters, the walls of the air conditioners. pipes, condensation vessels and drainage channels in the absence of natural light and which exert a putrefactive action resulting in an unpleasant odor.
Another source of odor is the absorption by the dust deposited on the filters and the walls of the pipes of the odors collected and released by the air circulating in the circuit. Other sources of odor are insulating materials, adhesives, viscous filter materials and especially corroded metal surfaces. The accumulated effect of these odors, even when they are not clearly perceptible to the smell, can cause a feeling of depression and the invention makes it possible to correct or eliminate these odors.
