or- anilids. Man putscht ab.
Process for the preparation of an acyl derivative of an acetoacetic acid amide. It has been found that an acyl derivative of an acetoacetic acid amide can be prepared if: 1 11201 of a benzoylating agent is allowed to act on 2 mol of an alkali metal compound of acetoacetic acid-o-chloroanilide.
The benzoylacetoacetic acid-o-chloro-anilide of the formula
EMI0001.0015
represents a valuable new. Intermediate product for the production of azo dyes.
The alkali metal compounds of acetoacetic acid-o-chloro-anilide used as starting materials for the present process can be obtained by reacting the anilide with:
an alkali hydroxide, such as sodium hydroxide, in the aqueous phase, or these alkali metal compounds can also be obtained by reacting the anilide with an alkali metal-releasing agent in a non-aqueous solvent such as benzene, chlorobenzene, di- and trichlorobenzene, toluene etc., produce.
Depending on how the alkali metal compounds of anilide used as starting materials are produced, the reaction can be carried out in an aqueous or non-aqueous medium. As benzoylating agents come in particular the reactive, functional derivatives of benzoic acid, for example their anhydride and especially their halides, z. B. the chloride into consideration.
The reaction takes place in such a way that half of the alkali compound of the anilide is benzoylated, while the free acetoacetic anilide is reformed from the other half of the alkali compound. This circumstance means that the.
The mixture formed during the reaction can be easily separated due to the different solubility of the individual components, in that the alkali metal compound of benzoylacetoacetic acid, ean: ilide, is soluble in water, but not in many organic solvents, while the anillide itself is practically insoluble in water, on the other hand it is soluble in many organic solvents.
The recovered anilide can be used for a fresh batch, optionally without prior separation of the end product that has already formed.
The new process is surprising because it could not have been foreseen that the monoacylation on a carbon atom would proceed in such a simple manner and with practically no formation of appreciable amounts of by-products.
Example 1: 211.5 parts of acetoacetic acid-o-chloro-anilide (1 11M1) are dissolved in 800 parts by volume of water and 105 parts by volume of a sodium hydrogen hydroxide solution of 36'B6 (1 mol -j - 5%) solved at around 40 to 50,
and the optionally filtered solution is cooled to about 0-5 g by external cooling. Then 73.5 parts of benzoyl chloride (1/2 mol + 5%) are slowly added with vigorous stirring.
The smell of benzoyl chloride disappears in about 6 hours, with the formation of the sodium compound of benzoylacetoacetic acid-o-chloro-a.nilide. and reformation of the acetoacetic acid-o-chloro-anilide, which precipitates out.
You do a coup and wash the filter material with cold water. The filtrate is precipitated with 70 parts by volume of 30% strength hydrochloric acid, whereby the benzoylacetessibic acid-o-chloro-anilide precipitates.
Example 2: 211.5 parts of acetoacetic acid-o-chloro-anilide are dissolved in 700 parts of dry chlorobenzene by heating in a round-bottom flask with stirrer, thermometer, filler neck and descending the condenser in an oil bath distilled off about 100 parts of the chlorobenzene for complete drying. Then it is allowed to cool to about 100 and <RTI

The reaction mass is freed from alcohol as completely as possible by heating with stirring. This is the case when the internal temperature has reached the boiling point of chlorobenzene, i.e. 130.
A thick, white suspension of the sodium compound of acetoacetic acid-o-chloro-anilide is formed. If necessary, the reaction mixture has to be diluted a little by adding chlorobenzene.
The mixture is then cooled to about 10 and a mixture of 71 parts of benzoyl chloride and about 140 parts of o-chloro-benzal is slowly added dropwise. The mixture is stirred while cooling and later at room temperature for about 24 hours. A light yellow precipitate is formed, consisting of the sodium compound of benzoylacetoacetic: acid-o-chl:
or- anilids. You put off. The filtrate, which contains half of the anilide in the solution, can be used for a next batch. The filter residue is dissolved in water and subjected to steam distillation in order to free it from chlorobenzene; The benzoylacetoacetic acid - o - chloro - anilide is then obtained from the solution by acidification.
