Process for the production of a vat dye. It has been found that a vat dye can be produced by adding 1 mole of a functional derivative of the thiine:
dica.rboxylic acid, which contains the carbogyl groups in the same places in the thianthrene molecule as the. occupy the bromine atoms in dibromothianthrene, which is obtained by brominating thianthrene in nitrobenzene, reacts with 1 mole of 2-aminoanthraquinone and 13,110 of 1-amino-5-methoxyanthraehinone.
The new dye is: a yellow one. Powder that dyes cotton from a yellow-brown vat in greenish yellow tones.
The acid chloride, for example, can be used as a functional derivative of thianthrene dicarboxylic acid to carry out the reaction. The reaction is preferably carried out in an inert partitioning agent or solvent, in particular one with a higher boiling point, such as chlorobenzene, nitrobenzene, di- or trichlorobenzene, and at an elevated temperature,
in the presence or absence of acid-binding and catalytically active agents. Expediently, one of the two amine components is left at a moderately elevated temperature, e.g. B. at about 100, but the other at a much higher temperature, e.g. B. at the boiling point of the solvent used, react.
The thianthrendicarboxylic acid used as the starting material for the present process can be produced according to the information contained in the main patent. Example: 3 parts of finely powdered thianthrendicarboxylic acid are distributed in 580 parts of trichlorobenzene and, after adding 0.1 part of anhydrous pyridine and 17 parts of thionyl chloride, heated to 150 to 200 for a long time ,
until the formation of the acid chloride has ended. whereupon the excess thionyl chloride is distilled off.
2.2 parts of powdered 2-aminoanthraquinone and 0.8 parts of anhydrous pyridine are added, heated to 100 to 110 for 4 hours, then 5-methogyanthraquinone is driven in, heated to the boil for 1/2 hour, allowed to cool, sucks and cleans in the usual way. 1NIan gets a yellow powder after drying,
which dyes cotton from yellow-brown vat in greenish yellow tones.
