The object of the present invention is to provide a washing machine of this kind, having the advantages of continuous rotary agitation, while having a good washing effect and fully satisfying the conditions of a household washing machine. .
The washing machine object of the present invention comprises a container for a washing liquid and a rotary agitator mounted in the container so as to be covered by the washing liquid during use of the machine, characterized in that the. agitator is mounted against a side wall of the receptacle and that it comprises a disc, the periphery of which is placed, over its entire periphery, near at least part of this lateral pa king, said agitator being, moreover, connected to a device intended to give it a continuous rotational movement.
It is generally best to mount the agitator against a flat, roughly vertical wall of the vessel. It is then appropriate to give the container the shape of a right prism with a substantially rectangular base. However, in some cases the agitator can be mounted against a curved or inclined wall or part of a wall. However, in this case, the angle of inclination should be such that the vortex which tends to form in the water, as a result of the rotation of the agitator, does not extend to the surface of the agitator. the water.
Practically, this means that the angle should not exceed about 45, counted from the vertical, but, as discussed above, it is generally preferable to place the agitator against a vertical wall or roughly vertical. The shape of the agitator may vary, but it preferably comprises a disc whose face opposite the wall of the receptacle is provided with at least one projection or a pressure relief, which should be placed approximately radially. relative to the axis of the agitator and in an asymmetrical position.
Thus, the agitator may have much of its face more or less flat and even, with protrusions or depressions on only one side of one of its diameters.
In any case, it is preferable that the agitator is located nearer to the bottom of the container than the normal maximum level of water in that container. This makes it possible to use a water depth less than the maximum, for example for a small wash, and it also increases the washing efficiency.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, several embodiments of the machine which is the subject of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a vertical section of a first embodiment of this machine, FIG. 2 a vertical section through the line i 2-2 of FIG. 1.

Fig. 6 is an elevational view of a detail.
Figs. 7, 8, 9 and 10 are plans of four other embodiments of the washing machine object of (invention.
Fig. 11 is a vertical section of another embodiment of this machine. Fig. 12 represents another detail. Fig. 13 is a vertical section. Of another form:
execution of this machine. Fig. 14 is a section taken along line 14-14 of FIG. 13, and fig. 15 and 16 are views similar respectively to FIGS. 13 and 14, but in another embodiment, FIG. 16 being a section taken along line 16-16 of FIG. 15.
In the embodiment shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, the washing machine comprises a container 10, having a semi-cylindrical lower wall 10a which connects to two side walls 10b and two plane and vertical side walls <B> Ne. </B>
The normal maximum water level is indicated at 11. At a point located nearer the bottom loa than the maximum water level 11 is mounted a rotary stirrer 12. carried by a shaft 13 which can rotate in a bearing. 14; this agitator includes a dis that whose periphery is. placed over its entire periphery near one of the walls 10c, this periphery being protected by virtue of its engagement in a shallow recess 15 of the wall 10c. The shaft 13 is arranged to be driven in rotation in a continuous manner, for example by an electric motor.
A drain pipe 16 is mounted at the bottom of the container 10.
In the embodiment shown, a stirrer 12 comprises a disc, the face of which is intended to be placed in opposition to the. wall of the container is for the most part almost flat and even, the remainder of the face having two radial depressions 12a leaving between them a projection 12b. The direction of rotation of the agitator 12 is that shown by an arrow 17; this rotation tends to attract the water towards the center of the agitator face and to force it outwards in the form of currents in which, at any point, the flow tends to present pulsations as a result of the asymmetrical shape of the agitator.
The various currents thus produced in the mass of water are reflected and guided by the walls of the container, by the surface of the water and by the reaction of one on the other, and a complex of currents acting on each other and superimposed in the body of water; it is not possible to determine them exactly.

Figs. 7, 8, 9 and 10 show, in plan, other embodiments of the container 10 and various positions of the agitator. In each case, the bottom of the container may be flat, and the height of the container and, in the fi. 7, 9 and 10, the position of the agitator with respect to this height, can be, for example, approximately the same as in the embodiments shown in Figs. 1 and 2 or 3 to 5.
In fig. 8; a stirrer 26 is mounted on a slightly inclined axis, placed in the vicinity of a corner of the bottom of a container 27; in this embodiment and in that of FIG. 10, a shield is disposed against the wall of the container near which the periphery of the agitator is located.
In the embodiment shown in FIG. 11, a container 29, which may have the general shape of a right prism with a tangular base, has at its upper part 28 a reduced cross section to create a projection 28a above a stirrer 12. Furthermore, in this shape In execution, an annular protrusion 32 is disposed around the stirrer which is thus located in a recess 30, almost completely set back from the edge of the protrusion which forms a protection.
Fig. 12 shows another arrangement of the agitator which may be employed in washing machines in which an agitator 33 is provided with a rim 36 which closely surrounds a circular bead 35 formed in a wall 34 of a container. .
Figs. 1.3 and 14 show an embodiment of a machine comprising a receptacle the base of which is substantially rectangular 20 and containing two similar rotary agitators 21 and 22, mounted against its opposite side walls, while FIGS. 1 and 16 show another arrangement of twin agitators, in which agitators 24 are mounted against inclined portions 251 of side walls 25a of a container 25.
Figs. 13 and 16 also represent at 21 (fig, 13) and 24 (fig, 16) a form of o, gitateu: which has three projections similar to the projection 12b of the form of execution shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
