La serrure de sûreté suivant la présente invention comporte un cylindre, un bloc à rondelles dans lequel on introduit la, clé, bloc. pouvant tourner dans le cylindre, mais normalement verrouillé en rotation, des moyen. pour relier ledit bloc à rondelles au mécanisme commandant le pêne de la ser rure de manière à pouvoir déplacer ce der nier lorsque la rotation du bloc à rondelles et;

Safety lock. This invention relates to a lock dc = sfreté actuated by a key combining the advantages of .slocks with levers or latches and. those of rocker piston locks, allot while avoiding many disadvantages 11f- ce; two types of locks.
This lock makes it possible in particular to produce a number of different vombinations much greater than. that of the latch locks as they have been constructed up to now, at the same time that it offers greater security than the locks with, pistons-and-actuators, with regard to the opening at using an instrument other than the real key.
In an ordinary lock of the latch type, the latches are actuated by the. rotation of. the key, while: in a rocker piston lock, the pistons are brought into a position allowing the rotation of the washer block, by the prior insertion of the key.
The safety lock according to the present invention comprises a cylinder, a block with washers in which the key, block is introduced. rotatable in the cylinder, but normally locked in rotation, means. to connect said washer block to the mechanism controlling the bolt of the lock so as to be able to move the latter when the rotation of the washer block and;
permitted, a series of movable latches coo perant separately with the key when it is introduced into the lock, said latches. being provided with notches normally offset from each other, but which are aligned by an appropriate movement of each latch during the insertion of the real key, and means for unlocking the washer block and allowing its rotation after alignment of the notches, these means comprising a heel member, normally engaged with a fixed element of the lock and preventing rotation of the washer block, but being able to be moved at the start of the movement of the,
real key to. engage in the previously aligned notches, and disengage from the fixed element so as to allow rotation of the washer block. under the action of the, real key.
Preferably, the latches are articulated on an axis eccentric with respect to the axis of the washer block, but they can also be mounted so as to slide in a rectilinear direction; depending on the embodiment of the lock, the movement of the heel member engaging in the notches to unlock the washer block is performed either during the insertion of the. real key in the lock, that is to say from the beginning of the movement of rotation of this one.
Preferably - again, these latches are housed inside a cylinder which can be separated from the other members of the lock or which can be integral with it. In this way one obtains one of the advantages of the piston lock with rocker arms, that is to say that the position of the key mechanism is determined with respect to the face of the cylinder which is always on the face. of the door, with the result that the length of the key is always the same, whatever the thickness of the door.
The description which will follow, with reference to the accompanying drawings, given by way of non-limiting example, will make it clear how the lock according to the invention can be constructed.

Fig. 12 is a cross-sectional view illustrating an alternative embodiment of the latches.
Figs. 13 and 14 are cross-sectional views showing a variant of latches formed by sliding plates.
Figs. 15 and 18 showing a variant of execution of the heel control cam.
According to fig. 1 to 7, which represent the; lock in its most preferred, simple form in which insertion of the real key releases the locking mechanism to allow operation of the bolt by the. rotation of the key, the safety lock is constituted by a cylinder 1 of tubular shape intended to be fixed by screws, or by other means on the door, in a manner not shown. At its front end, this cylinder is provided with an enlarged head 2 which projects from the face of the door.
The cylinder contains a block with washers of circular section, the end of which is indicated at 3, and that fig. 2 shows separated from the cylinder. This block is designed to receive a key 4, the two edges of which are notched or notched.
The inner end of the washer block is slit diametrically to receive the end of the coupling rod 5.which is fixed to the block by means of a cup-shaped retainer 6, fixed to the block. by a pin, 7 (fig. 2). This retaining element 6 also serves to hold the washer block in position inside the cylinder.
The washer block is divided lengthwise into a number of spaced compartments 8, each containing an articulated lever or latch 9. These latches are moved towards the position of FIG. 3 by means 10, ie. that is to say towards the position they occupy when the key is not introduced into the keyhole. As clearly shown in Figs. 3 to 7, the latches are alternately arranged so as to move up and down.
The upwardly moving latches cooperate with the notches in the upper edge of the key, while the downward moving latches cooperate with the lower edge notches. The slot 11, made in the block with washers for the introduction of the key, T, extends over the entire length of the block and it has a suitable transverse profile, for example that shown in .fig. 3, rto allow the key to be entered only if it is the real one.
It can therefore be seen that the introduction of a key having a transverse profile corresponding to the profile of the keyhole brings the pivoting upwards and towards the l, a #; different latches. But until the real key is inserted into the keyhole, the latches are not properly moved and the lock cannot. not Be activated for the reasons which will be indicated later.
All the latches are portA.s by a common axis 12 around which they can pivot within certain limits. Although it is preferable that each compartment contains only one latch, we can accommodate several of these latches. if it's necessary.
In some applications, for which the length of the mechanism is not too short, all the latches can be mounted so as to move up or down. The corresponding key is then provided with notches only on one edge.
The various compartments of the block with washers are limited by partitions 13 or spacers for spacing the levers, which can be taken in the mass with the body of the block, the material of this block being removed at the necessary places by operations. machining for the formation of the various compartments, while this inal-ière is left in the places necessary to form the spacers. Partition walls can also be fabricated separately.
Due to their mounting in individual spaced compartments, the latches oppose a minimum resistance to the insertion or removal of the key and prevent exerting excessive pressure on the latches at the time of insertion. introduction or withdrawal thereof.
The lock bolt is actuated by the rotation of the washer block inside the cylinder, when the key is turned. To prevent this rotational movement as long as the:
real key has not been introduced, and so due Here various latches have not been correctly moved, the washer block is equipped with a heel member 14, pivotally mounted on an axis 15, the internal end 16 of the heel being intended to engage with a series of notches 17 made in the latches, when the notches are correctly aligned by the movement of all the latches.
The heel member cooperates with the internal surface of the cylinder so as to prevent the rotation of the washer block as long as the heel has not entered the aligned notches. In the arrangement shown in fig. 1 to 6, the heel member is provided with a projection 18 directed outwards which, when the various members are in the; position of fig. 3 and 4, is housed in a recess 19 made in the internal surface of the cylinder.
Any attempt to rotate the washer block inside the cylinder when the notches of the latches are out of alignment with each other, as indicated by; fig. 3 for example, only results in the walls of the recess pushing the heel member inward until its end 16 comes into contact with the edges of the latches, which prevents any further addition. rotation of the washer block inside the cylinder.
But, when the latches are in the position shown in FIG. 4, position which is obtained by the introduction of the real key, all the notches 17 are aligned and, therefore, the heel 16 can enter these notches when it is pushed inward by the rotation of the block to washers, and it allows the free rotation of the block inside the cylinder. The actual penetration of the heel 16 into the notches results from the cooperation of the ramps of the recess 19 with the projection 18, as shown clearly in FIG. 5.
To ensure that the protrusion 18 returns inwardly of the recess 19 when the key has made one full turn and the bolt has been moved, and when it is then desired to remove the key, the protrusion 18 carries a lateral lug 20 (FIG. 6) which moves in a guide path 21 made in the end of the cylinder, this path connecting to the recess 19.
The cylinder is provided, opposite the recess 19, with cam ramps 22 which direct the projection towards the inside of the recess when the block with washers. is brought back to its starting position, which means that the heel is released from the notches 17 and the key can be withdrawn, while the latches return to their starting position, those of FIG. 3 under action; corresponding springs.
Figs. 8 and 9 illustrate an alternative embodiment in which the heel member is provided with a tail 23 cooperating with a cam ramp 24 to extract the heel from the aligned notches, the projection 18 of the heel then turning inwards. of the recess 19, the shape of which is slightly different from that of the recess shown in FIGS. 3 to 6.
In the eas of fig. 9, the key has been inserted and the latches. have been lifted to bring the notches into alignment so that, upon commencement of the rotational movement of the block, the heel 16 can enter these notches. and the projection 18 comes out of the recess 19.
In another variant, the heel can be moved inward or outward by the pressure of a spring.
Fig. 10 shows another embodiment of the heel member which is constituted by a sliding plate 25 articulated on a lever 26, on which a res out can act in order to cause the automatic withdrawal of the heel from the aligned notches. Fig. 11 shows an even simpler embodiment, in which the heel member consists of a simple sliding element.
In this arrangement, the snap motion of the heel member may be produced by a spring or by a finger 20 cooperating with a ramp or cam groove in the manner shown in FIG. 6.
In all the mechanisms described, the heel can be released, from the latches by a special lever. This lever is then always sufficiently raised during the removal of the key to completely release the heel from the latches.
According to fig. 12 to 14, the latches 9 are in the form of hollow plates which, in the case of FIG. 12, can rotate about an axis eccentric relative to the axis of rotation of the washer block. In the case of fig. 13 and 14, these plates slide vertically to move from the position of FIG. 18, in which the notches are offset from one another, towards the position of FIG. 14, resulting from the introduction of the key.
Penetration of the heel into the aligned notches and its removal can be accomplished in any convenient manner.
In all the devices described above, two or more grooves can be made in the body of the cylinder to allow the removal of the key in several positions.
Figs. 15 to 18 show a provision of the heel control cams, allowing the operation of the lock by a rotation of the. key in any direction, the elevation of the latches, and the alignment of the notches which results therefrom, being obtained by the introduction of the key, the rotation of which then produces the penetration of the heel into the aligned notches and the lock operation. The latches and the heel are arranged to pivot on: pins: attached to each end of the cylinder body.
Two cam elements 27 are provided in the form of fingers projecting laterally on the face of the cam 28 of the washer block, these fingers 27 cooperating with a ramp 29 provided on a lever 30, oscillating about an axis 31 -and carrying the member at ta lon 14, the end 32 of which can enter one or the other of two recessed parts 33 of the cam 28, depending on the direction of rotation of the key.
According to fig. 15, the key has been inserted and, according to fig. 16, the key has executed a rotational movement to allow the heel to penetrate the aligned notches of the latches, these notches having been aligned by the initial introduction of the key. According to fig. 17, the end 32 of the heel member is out of the recessed part 33, causing the heel to be withdrawn and thus allowing the offset of all the notches of the latches.
On the, fig. 18, we see that the key has again brought them back. notches in alignment and the heel can reenter the notches. Finally, the heel. is released when the elements return to their initial position, as shown, by FIG. 15, wherein the heel is released or withdrawn, while the latches can return to the; starting position, atp @ res on, removal of the key.
With the; arrangement shown in 6g. 15 to 18, the , position of. withdrawal of the. key is of capital importance and it is therefore necessary to provide a device which positively prevents the removal of the key as long as the heel is still engaged in the notches :, of the latches, or as long as the cams of the block and of the heel are in the rusting worm position, this device also preventing the. rotation of the block and the operation of the lock under the action of any instrument introduced into the keyhole.
In. In a preferred arrangement, a pin can slide in a recess of the block in a position such that an end of this pin moves away from the neighboring periphery of the block when the notches in one edge of the key come to the (1oritaet @ the spindle during the introduction of the key in the keyhole. The key is provided with a special notch so that the spindle can fall back to its initial position when the key is fully inserted.
But if the spindle does not fall back and: s * @ keeps in its raised position, it is pushed down into the notch of the key by its. cooperation with the inclined flanks born from a notch specially provided in the cylinder head, this lowering, -de, the hrocbe resulting from the initial rotational movement of the key and the washer block in the cylinder. During the movement of, the.
rotation of the key and the block, the spindle comes into contact; with the inner surface of the cylindra and, therefore, this spindle can: pa :. stand up until the key and the block have returned to the initial position. When the key has resumed this initial position, the pin can again rise radially to disengage from the notch in the key. If several withdrawal positions are to be provided, the head will be provided with several notches, but it is sufficient that the block contains a single pin.
Any of the heels described above may carry a series of paddles which engage between the latches and replace the spacers previously indicated.
Il emerges from the above description that the lock described cannot really be operated by an instrument other than the real key, since, obviously, all the latches must necessarily be moved an exact amount so that the notches are brought into alignment, the latches, when pivotally mounted on an axis eccentric to the axis of rotation of the washer block, requiring use an exactly contoured key to ensure the correct alignment of the notches and the consequent penetration of the heel.
The latch control mechanism of this lock may be of any suitable type of constitution.
