Die Umsetzungen der Polyamidfasern mit den Trial- kyloxoniumsalzen wird mit Vorteil in inerten organischen Lö sungsmitteln ausgeführt. Als gut geeignet erweisen sich chlorierte Kohlenwasserstoffe, z.B. Chlorbenzole wie Mono- Chlorbenzol;

EMI0014.0021
in Chloroform getaucht.
Process for finishing polyamide fibers It has been found that polyamide fibers can be refined in a valuable way if they are alkylated to form polyimino ester salts and the latter with nitrogen bases, the at least one
EMI0001.0005
Have group, implements.
Any polyamide fibers can be used for this reaction e.g. such off
EMI0002.0003
-Caprolactam, those from adipic acid and hexamethylenediamines or those from the lactam of aminoun decanecarboxylic acid are used.
As agents for forming polyimino ester salts there are e.g. Alkyl sulfates with low molecular weight alkyl groups such as diethyl sulfate or dimethyl sulfate are suitable.
Because of their good reactivity, the trialkyl oxonium salts, in particular those with low molecular weight alkyl groups, are preferred. Examples are the oxonium salts, which are on the one hand the cation of the formula
EMI0002.0022
where R1, R2 and R3 are identical or different alkyl groups such as methyl or ethyl, and on the other hand an anion from an atom of a polyvalent metal and the number of halogen atoms exceeding the valency of the metal by 1,
like FeCl4G, SbC16 but in particular contain BF4G and A1C149. It is known that these oxonium salts can be prepared from epihalohydrins and metal halide-ether complexes.
The reaction of the polyamide fibers with the trialkyloxonium salts is advantageously carried out in inert organic solvents. Chlorinated hydrocarbons, e.g. Chlorobenzenes such as monochlorobenzene;
Di- and trichlorobenzenes or aliphatic chlorohydrocarbons such as "trichlorethylene, chloroform, also carbon tetrachloride, but especially nitrobenzene. The quantitative ratio of the two reactants can vary within wide limits, but it is generally advantageous to proceed in such a way that only one Part of the carboxamide groups of the polyamide, the reaction with the oxonium compound takes place.
For example, polyamide fibers can be treated in one of the solvents mentioned, which contain 0.01 to 0.5 mol of the oxonium compound per liter, the exposure time being advantageously limited to a few minutes to an hour and at room temperature or slightly e.g. up to about 4O0 C, elevated temperature works.
Particularly good results are achieved if, for example on a padder, the fiber material is impregnated with a solution of the oxonium compound in an organic solvent and then subjected to a dry heat treatment without intermediate drying. This advantageously takes place at temperatures between 100 and 150o and takes 1/2 to 5 minutes. It is clear that the number of reacted groups is increased by increasing the concentration, increasing the temperature and extending the reaction time.
For this reason, it is also advisable, if the reaction takes place in a liquid medium, to remove the excess of oxonium compound from the polyamide in good time, e.g. by washing it out of the fiber material with the solvent after it has been removed from the reaction solution, or by reacting the product obtained with the nitrogen base immediately afterwards.
The reaction of the polyamide with the trialkyl oxonium salt can be formulated as follows:
EMI0004.0003
A represents an alkyl radical, and R1, R2 and R3 represent alkyl radicals. Accordingly, the reaction products of the polyamides and the trialkyloxonium salts could be referred to as polyimino ester salts, which in addition to structural elements of the formula
EMI0004.0010
Structural elements of the formula
EMI0004.0011
contain,
where A is an alkylene group and R1 is a preferably low molecular weight alkyl radical.
These polyimino ester salts are now reacted with stick material bases, the at least one basic
EMI0005.0005
Have group. A wide variety of nitrogen bases of this type come into consideration, e.g. inorganic bases such as ammonia, hydroxylamine or hydrazine. The following organic bases should be mentioned:
Mono-, di- and polyamines which have at least one primary or secondary amino group such as mono alkylamines, dialkylamines, alkylenediamines, in particular ethylenediamine, polyalkylenepolyamines such as diethylenetriamine or triethylenetetramine, .Mono-, di- or trialkylhydrazines such as N, N-dimethylhydrazine, oxyamines such as Mono- or diethanolamine,
Aminocarboxylic acids such as aminoacetic acid (glycocoll), aminosulfonic acid such as taurine or methyltaurine or 1-aminobenzene-3- or -4-sulfonic acid.
In a particular embodiment, the polyimino salts are reacted with dyes which have at least one basic
EMI0005.0035
Group included. This gives ge colored polyamides, and the dyes are covalently bonded to the polyamides. Apart from the fact that the dyes must have the group mentioned, they can be innate to the most varied classes, with amino azo dyes and aminoanthraquinones in particular being emphasized.
The dyes can contain acidic water-solubilizing groups such as carboxylic acid groups or sulfonic acid groups or be free thereof.
The reaction of the polyimino ester salts with the basic nitrogen compounds is carried out, for example, in water or in an organic solvent, e.g. a low molecular weight aliphatic alcohol such as methanol or ethanol, tertiary butanol. In many cases, particularly good results are obtained if non-polar organic solvents such as trichlorethylene, carbon tetrachloride or chloroform are used.
This reaction is also expediently carried out at room temperature or slightly elevated temperature, e.g. at a temperature between 20 and 50o. The duration of the reaction can expediently be from one minute to one hour. Again, it is advisable to wash out the reagent that has not been used, especially if a dye containing amino groups was used for the reaction.
The reaction of the polyimino ester salts with primary nitrogen bases can be formulated as follows:
EMI0006.0016
A is an alkylene radical and R4 is a hydrogen atom or a preferably organic radical.
The products obtainable in this way can be referred to as polyamides, which in addition to structural elements of the formula
EMI0007.0001
those of the formula
EMI0007.0002
contain, where A is an alkylene group and R4 is a hydrogen atom or a preferably organic radical.
The treatment according to the present process allows the properties of the polyamide fibers to be modified in various ways, with the most varied of possibilities arising depending on the choice of nitrogen compound and the degree of implementation. E.g. the mechanical properties and / or the water absorption capacity or wettability can be changed.
For example, the polyimino ester salts present as fiber material can be reacted with amines which contain higher molecular weight alkyl groups such as dodecyl or octadecyl groups and thus achieve a hydrophobic effect.
The opposite effect, which can be referred to as hydrophilization, can be achieved by reaction with amines which have a plurality of hydroxyl groups or polyglycol residues.
By reacting with acidic water-solubilizing groups such as amines containing carboxylic acid or sulfonic acid groups or with amines which in addition to the reactive amino group also have at least one quaternary ammonium group, an antistatic finish is possible.
Furthermore, the ability to fix various finishing agents such as optical brighteners or protective agents against ultraviolet radiation can be increased. In particular, however, the dyeability of the polyamide fibers by acidic wool dyes, which is insufficient with a large number of these dyes, can be considerably improved by treatment with basic nitrogen compounds, especially di- and poly amines, according to the present process.
It is possible to modify the polyamide fibers in such a way that they can be really dyed in strong shades with acidic wool dyes that practically cannot be absorbed by the usual dyeing methods, and without special measures such as e.g. Temperatures exceeding 100o C should be used. Reactive dyes, in particular those with chlorotriazine or chloropyrimidine residues, can also be used for dyeing
be used. In the case of polyimino ester salts treated with aminocarboxylic acids or aminosulfonic acids, the affinity for basic dyes is increased. There is also the possibility of forming metal complexes between the modified fibers and dyes.
Since the above-mentioned refinements of the polyamide fibers are based on the introduction of certain organic residues, in which these residues are covalently bonded to the polyamide, a permanent effect occurs which is very resistant to the usual influences during use and when cleaning the fiber material.
Example 1 A commercially available fabric made of polyamide fibers produced from hexamethylenediamine and adipic acid is left to lie in a 0.1 molar solution of triethyloxonium tetrafluoroborate in chloro form for 30 minutes at room temperature. After it has been removed and pressed, it is added to a 0.1 molar solution of ethylenediamine in methanol without intermediate drying, left there for 15 minutes, then removed again, rinsed with methanol and dried.
The polyamide modified in this way can be dyed much better and more strongly than the starting product with acidic wool dyes.
Instead of working as stated above, the polyamide fiber fabric can also be impregnated on a padder with a solution of triethyloxonium tetrafluoroborate in nitrobenzene and then subjected to a heat treatment of 120 °. The reaction with ethylenediamine can also be carried out in chloroform.
EMI0011.0001
A dyebath is prepared which, in 4000 parts of water, contains 4 parts of 40% strength acetic acid and .2 parts of the dyestuff of the formula
EMI0011.0004
contains, In this bath, 100 parts of the polyamide fabric treated according to Example 1 are entered at 450.degree. C. *.
v warms up to 95 to 1000 C and keeps the bath at this temperature for one hour @. The polyamide is then rinsed with cold water and dried. It is strongly colored yellow. Unmodified polyamide is only very weakly colored according to this specification.
Strong colorations are obtained by this dyeing method on the modified polyamide according to Example 1 with the dyes of the following formulas, which are also only able to color unmodified polyamide very weakly:

EXAMPLE A polyamide fabric made of nylon (staple fibers) is padded with a 10% solution of triethyloxonium tetrachloroaluminate in nitrobenzene and squeezed off to 75% of its weight of solution. The goods impregnated in this way are subjected to a heat treatment in a wet state for 1 minute at 120 ° in an air bath.
The tissue is then treated for 15 minutes at 20 to 250 with a 30% solution of n-dodecylamine in chloroform. Soap at 40 o with a solution containing 0.3% of an ion-free detergent. After rinsing and drying, a fabric is obtained that has clearly hydrophobic properties. Example 3 A polyamide fabric of the type indicated in Example 1 is treated for 20 minutes at 400 ° C. in a 0.05 molar solution of triethyloxonium tetrafluoroborate in chloroform.
It is then transferred to a 0.5% solution of m-aminoazobenzene in methanol for 5 minutes without intermediate drying. After washing with methanol, the fabric is bright yellow in color. For comparison purposes, a polyamide fabric treated in the same dye solution and not preceded by any reaction with the oxonium salt remains practically colorless. Example 4 Example 3 is repeated, but instead of using the solution of m-aminoazobenzene, a solution of the dye of the formula is used
EMI0013.0011
and is given a strong, scarlet color.
Without the previous reaction with the oxonium salt, the polyamide remains almost colorless when treated with the dye. Example 5 A polyamide fabric made of nylon (filapent) is padded with a 20% solution of triethyloxonium tetrafluoroborden in nitrobenzene and subjected to a heat treatment, as described in example 2 .
The fabric is then treated with a 30% solution of glucamine in water for 15 minutes at 20 to 250. The fabric made according to Example 3 shows increased wetting compared to untreated polyamide - availability. Example 6 A fabric made of nylon (filament) is padded with a 20% solution of triethyloxonium fluoroborate in nitrobenzene,
rolled up with a sheet of polyvinyl chloride and subjected to a dry heat treatment at 120o for 5 minutes.
The tissue treated in this way is rinsed with chloroform and immersed in a 30% solution of the compound of the formula for 15 minutes
EMI0014.0021
immersed in chloroform. It is then washed twice with chloroform, soaped at 50 ° with an aqueous solution containing 0.3% of an ion-free detergent, rinsed with water and extracted with hot dioxane.
This treatment results in a solvent and washfast antistatic finish.
