Winding crown, mainly, but not exclusively, for waterproof pocket watches. The sealing devices applied to winding crowns for waterproof watches in many cases include a packaging made of a slightly compressible material, rubber or synthetic resin for example, housed and maintained, sometimes by an adjustable clamping device, in the re-mount tube and in which the barrel of the crown is adjusted with greasy friction.
Experience has shown that when the said crown barrel is made of oxidized metal, for example brass, as is customary for pocket watches, it does not withstand attacks for long. moisture that collects on top of the package; it oxidizes, becomes covered with verdigris, to the detriment of the sealing of the positive device which soon becomes ineffective.
Now, if it is easy to remedy this inconvenience when it comes to wristwatches by providing for crown barrels in nickel, it is quite different for pocket watches; technical and economic reasons combine to make difficult and unprofitable the execution of large crowns with nickel barrel.
The object of the present invention is to allow the use, mainly, but not exclusively for waterproof pocket watches comprising a sealing package integral with the winding tube, -of brass barrel crowns, as for watches from ordinary pocket. This result is achieved, according to the invention, by coating the barrel of the crown with a sleeve made of stainless material, for example made of stainless steel, nickel, etc. This sleeve can, for example, be maintained by force.
The appended drawing shows, by way of example, an embodiment of a winding crown forming the subject of the invention.
Fig. 1 shows, in section along the axis of the winding stem, the pendant and the crown, not assembled, and FIG. 2 is a section through the assembled pendant and crown. The pendant 3, fixed as usual to the caseband 4, has at its upper extremity an enlarged threaded bore in which is housed an annular package 5 of slightly compressible material, for example rubber or acrylic or vinyl resin.
A clamping ring 6 keeps the package in place and makes it possible to take up, if necessary, the radical play due to wear. 7 is the pendant ring and 8 is the remon toir rod.
The winding crown 9, made, as is customary for ordinary pocket watches, in brass, carries a barrel 9 'which comes in one piece with it, but on which is forcibly engaged a sleeve 10 of stainless material. , preferably stainless steel. The barrel, thus protected over its entire length against attack by humidity, is adjusted to a high friction in package 5.
The outer surface of the sleeve 10, which can moreover be fixed otherwise to the barrel, is preferably polished in order to facilitate the sliding of the coated barrel in the package, which ensures the crown a particularly smooth and regular operation. .
It goes without saying that the present invention can be applied not only to waterproof pocket watches, but to any pocket watch or bracelet, waterproof or not.
