Essuie-glace automatique.
Automatic windscreen wiper. The known electric windshield wipers which are used in particular on motor cars have the drawback of stopping immediately when the circuit powering the motor driving the wiper arm is broken. If we want to prevent this arm from stopping in a position which hinders the view of the driver, it is necessary for the latter to take care to cut off the current to the motor when this arm is in one of its po Extreme 4tions. This obviously has the inconvenience of forcing the driver to cease concentrating his attention on the road for a moment in order to observe the wiper arm for a while.
The object of the present invention is to avoid this drawback and it relates to an automatic wiper of the type comprising an electric motor driving at least one wiper arm by means of a mechanism transmitting to this arm a movement of reciprocating, which is characterized in that it comprises an auxiliary contact, in parallel with the main contact controlling the starting of said motor and arranged so as to open only when the wiper arm is in the 'at least one of the ends of its stroke, in order to ensure the stopping of this arm at the end of the stroke, regardless of the moment at which the main contact is opened.
The appended drawing shows, by way of example, an embodiment of the automatic windscreen wiper forming the subject of the invention.
I'ig. 1 is a partial front view thereof, and FIG. 2 a circuit diagram. The wiper shown comprises an electric motor arranged in a housing 1, the shaft 2 of which drives, in known manner,. a shaft 3 performing, when the motor is rotating, an oscillating movement about its own axis, and this at a reduced speed relative to that of the motor. The mechanism transmitting the movement of the shaft 2 to the shaft 3 comprises a reduction gear train 4 acting on a wheel 5 having a crank pin 6 on which freely pivots one end of a rack 7. The rack 7 is held in place. meshing with a toothed wheel 8 by means of a caliper 9 mounted on the shaft 3.
The shaft 3 carries a metal drum 10 with which a sliding contact 11 cooperates. When the members are in the position shown in the drawing, the blade 11 is in contact with an insulating part 12 which the drum 10 presents. the latter is in an angular position somewhat different from that indicated in the drawing, there is electrical contact between the metal drum 10 and the blade 11, which, as can be seen in the diagram of FIG. 2, closes the motor 1 circuit.
The switch 13 serving to control the starting and stopping of the motor is arranged in parallel with the contact 10, 11 (see fig. 2).
The operation of the wiper shown is as follows: The wiper arm 14 is integral with the shaft 3. When stopped, it occupies the position shown in the drawing. When the switch 13 is closed, the motor 1 starts to rotate, which causes the arm 14 to oscillate between the position shown and another extreme position 14 '. When, after having made the wiper arm oscillate between 14 and 14 'in this way, it is desired to stop it, one limits oneself to opening the switch 13, regardless of where the arm 14 is located. continues to oscillate as long as there is electrical contact between the metal drum 10 and the blade 11.
On the other hand, when the insulating part 12 comes into contact with the blade 11, the motor circuit is broken and the latter stops. However, the position for which the insulating part 12 is located opposite the blade 11, corresponds precisely to an extreme position of the wiper arm, so that the latter does not obstruct the view of the driver of the car.
Of course, one could provide two insulating parts such as 12 arranged so that the arm 14 simply ends the half-oscillation in progress when the switch 1 is opened instead of always stopping in the position. indicated at 14, as is the case in the embodiment shown.
