Beim Zünden der Entladun,gsröh-re 1 fällt die Spannung zwiselien den Glühelek- troden 2 von der Netzspannung von 22-20 Volt auf die wesentlich niedrigere Brennspannung der Entlad@uinb,sröhre 1, von beispielsweise 1\20 Volt, ab. .]Diese Spannung ist für eine Zündung der Glimmentladungsstreeke des Glimmschalters 6 zu niedrig;
Die bessere Ausnutzung der Netzspannung bei Vorsehung von zwei in Reihe geschalteten Entladungsröhren bedeutet eine höhere Lichtausbeute und eine Verbesserung des eos. g9. Ausserdem ist für die Praxis die Handhabung kürzerer Leuchtröhren von etwa 1 m Länge bei der Herstellung, beim Versand und bei der Montage einfacher;
Ein Hauptanwen- dungsgebiet bietet der Betrieb von sogenann- ten Leuchtstoffröhren, die ausser einem Edel gas von niedrigem Druck, beispielsweise Angon von 2r20 Torr, noch etwas Queck silber enthalten und auf der Innenseite der Röhrenwandung einen Überzug aus Leucht- stoffen tragen, die durch die starke Ultra- violettstrahlun;
Device with at least one electrical discharge tube. The invention relates to a device with at least one electrical discharge tube with glow electrodes, at least one of which is placed in the circuit of one or more bimetal holders for preheating,
which bridge two glow electrodes when closed and open automatically when the preheatable glow electrode has been heated up via the aforementioned .circuit.
Up to now, a winding used to heat the bimetallic strip was connected upstream of the discharge tube. When such a device is switched on, the current flowing initially via the bridge line, the bimetal switch and its heating coil brings the glow electrodes to emission temperature.
If this is reached, the bimetallic hold interrupts the heating circuit, whereby the full mains voltage occurs between the already glowing electrode or discharge tube and the tube ignites.
If the current-limiting series resistor of the discharge tube, which is always required, consists of a choke coil, the ignition of the discharge tube is still promoted by the voltage surge that is induced in the choke coil when the bimetal switch is opened and the heating current is interrupted.
After the discharge tube has been ignited, its discharge current flows through the heating coil of the bimetal switch and keeps it in the open position. This causes a loss of energy during operation and furthermore, that when the tube is still hot it must be waited for some time when it is switched off and on again until the bimetallic switch has returned to its starting position by cooling down.
According to the invention, this disadvantage can be avoided by a special design of the bimetallic switch in the heating circuit of the glow electrodes, which ensures reliable, quick start-up of the <B> EI </B> ntladuna tube. For this purpose, the bimetallic strip executing the switching movement is housed in a gas atmosphere and forms one electrode of a glow discharge tube that is used to heat it up,
which is to be measured in such a way that its ignition pannling is between the mains voltage and the operating voltage of the discharge tube.
For example, embodiments of the device according to the invention are explained in more detail in the following section of the drawing.
According to FIG. 1, the discharge tube 1 has two preheatable glow electrodes? Which are connected on the one hand via the series choke 8 to the mains switch d and on the other hand connected in series through the bridging line 5 in which the bimetal glow holder 6 is located.
In the gas-filled glass vessel of the switch, a bimetal strip 7 is shown on the left and a fixed stop 8 is shown on the right. Both together form a glow discharge path whose ignition voltage is measured by the type of gas filling, the electrode spacing and the type of electrode building material,
that the ignition spark between the mains voltage and. the B @ renn- spa.nowb is the discharge tube 1.
For example, with a mains voltage of full 220 volts and a burning voltage of the discharge tube of 120 volts, the ignition voltage of the glow discharge path of the glow switch is set to 170 volts. The small capacitor 9 lying parallel to the glow switch is used in a manner known per se to avoid radio interference.
When the power switch 4 is closed, the glow discharge occurring between the electrodes 7, 8 of the glow discharge path of the switch 6 leads to a rapid heating of the bimetallic strip 7, which bends so far that it hits the stop serving as a Greben electrode 8 touches, so the Sehalter closes.
The glow discharge current that occurs at the beginning and the strong short-circuit current that occurs after the switch is closed bring the glow electrodes \? at emission temperature. There.
when the glow switch is closed, its glow discharge goes out and the heating effect on the bimetallic strip 7 ceases to exist, and the glow box opens again after a very short time by cooling down.
The mains span that now appears between the glowing electrodes 2 of the discharge tube 1 now leads to the ignition of the discharge tube 1. This ignition is further promoted by the voltage surge that occurs when the glow switch in the front-end choke coil 3 is opened arises.
When the discharge tube 1 is ignited, the voltage between the glow electrodes 2 drops from the mains voltage of 22-20 volts to the significantly lower operating voltage of the discharge tube 1, for example 1 \ 20 volts. .] This voltage is too low for ignition of the glow discharge path of the glow switch 6;
it therefore remains stromloe in the further operation and its bi-metal strip 7 returns to its starting position. As a result, the glow switch is ready for operation at any time. that the Entladmigsröh-re 1 off and immediately. should be switched on again.
A practical construction of the glowing age arranged in the scheme of FIG. 1 is shown in FIGS. 2-'5 shown enlarged in different views.
The glow switch consists of a small, short glass tube, in the bottom part of which two power supply wires 10, 11 are fused using a foot of a short overall height.
On the Stromzuführu.ngs- wire 1 () is attached to the vessel axis U-shaped bent binietal strip 7, the free, somewhat elongated shape of which carries the resilient Iiontakt.dralit 12,
which surrounds the pin-shaped counter-electrode 8 and grips over it with a void V-shaped bend. This Cxebenelecti-ode ordered from a l # raht.stüek attached to the power supply wire 11, which is bent outwards at right angles s <B> s </B> kn at the level of the bimetallic strip.
On the extension of the power supply wire 10 sits a nickel disc 13, on the underside of which a getter material 14 made of 1-tag magnesium is attached. The gas filling, which is under a pressure of around 40 mm, consists of neon with around <B> 0.5% </B> argon.
After venting the glass vessel, the magnesium 14 is evaporated, expediently by eddy current heating of the nickel disc 13, the magnesium vapors being deposited on the vessel wall and the electrodes 7, 8. When the U-shaped bimetal strip 7 is heated by the glow discharge occurring between it and the counter electrode 8, the bimetallic strip 7 moves away from the counter electrode 8, the V-shaped bend of the contact wire 12 coming into contact with the counter electrode 8.
After the glow discharge has been extinguished, the V-shaped bend of the contact wire 12 returns to its original position.
The U-shaped design of the bimetal strip 7, in conjunction with the resilient contact wire 12 attached to it, ensures even with changes! the environment, o # s or working temperature reliably occurring switch closure and opening, because the contact point of the contacts moves more or less far along the incline of the V-shaped bend and this sliding movement prevents scorching of the contact points.
The provision of a U-shaped bent, transversely to the vessel axis, placed bimetallic strip also results in a high stability of the switch and a low overall height of the same, which makes it possible to accommodate the switch, e.g. B. in the sockets of fluorescent tubes, much easier.
The V-shaped bend of the contact wire 12 is advantageously carried out in such a way that it glides over the pin-shaped counter-electrode 8 during the melting process due to the inevitable strong heating of the bi-metal strip 7 and again over the counter-electrode when the bimetal strip 7 cools down 8 can slide back into its starting position.
A particularly advantageous embodiment of the new device is obtained when the glow switch is placed on or in the discharge tube or, as shown in FIG. 6, in its envelope vessel and with two, when heated in the same direction,
the switch contacts carry the bimetallic strip, of which the vein is completely or largely protected against the start of the discharge: in the direction of deflection at the front, and is connected to an auxiliary electric which, together with the bimetallic strip at the back, the glow discharge:
line forms.
According to FIG. 6, the glow switch 6 is housed in the envelope 15 of a sodium vapor lamp, specifically in the neck space 16 of the same, and is fastened on the mica disk 17. Like the FLg. 7, 8 show the glow switch 6 in. Larger scale in, side view and in cross section. The glow switch vessel contains two bimetallic strips 7,
18, the switch contacts made of tungsten. In addition, the switch vessel contains an auxiliary electrode 19 which is electrically connected to the bi-metal strip 18 at the front in the deflection direction. This front bimetal strip 1: 8 is through. an insulating cover 20 against perspiration, the discharge protected.
When switching on the sodium lamp occurs between the auxiliary electrode 19 and the rear bimetal strip 7 and. If necessary, the glow discharge between the tungsten contacts. Therefore only the rear bimetallic tire 7 is heated up and the switch is closed by its curvature.
With this design of the glow switch, as with a glow switch with only a single bimetal strip, the switch is undesirably closed by the heat emanating from the discharge tube while the lamp is in operation.
This risk is avoided by providing two bimetallic strips because the two bimetallic strips in the same line of striking bimetallic strips keep the distance between the switch contacts almost constant at all operating temperatures that occur in practice. In the embodiment shown in Fig. E>, the glow switch is heated to about 200-250 by the high operating temperature of the sodium vapor discharge tube.
The use of two bimetallic strips also eliminates the following risk which occurs when using only one bimetallic strip that works together with a fixed mating contact. Due to the inevitable high heating when the built-in parts are melted into the small Seha.ltergefäß - the bimetal strip, which presses heavily on the fixed mating contact, is easily bent.
But if the front contact is also attached to a bimetal strip, it is also moved forward during the melting process; So it evades your backward bi-metal strip and prevents too strong and damaging pressing together.
If the envelope 1.5 of the sodium vapor lamp according to FIG. 6 has a suitable gas filling. A special vessel for the glow switch 6 can be dispensed with. The protection of the front bimetallic strip 18 against the formation of the C-glow discharge can, instead of an insulation 20, under certain circumstances also be achieved by a suitable shielding, for example a shielding plate,
or only through its spatial arrangement, for example by providing a greater distance from the rear bimetal strip 7, achieve.
The new device can also have two discharge tubes connected in series with a suitable design of the glow switch. In this case, as FIG. 9 shows, each discharge tube 1 is bridged by a glow switch (1).
Furthermore, the two glow switches are dimensioned in such a way that their ignition voltages are less than half the mains voltage. If, for example, in the device according to FIG. 9, the mains voltage is 220 volts and the burning voltage of each fluorescent tube is 80 volts, the ignition voltage of the glow switch 6 is set to about 95 volts.
When the mains switch 4 is closed, both glow switches then immediately fire because half the mains voltage of 1.10 volts occurs on each of them. As soon as one of them opens again after closing the glow switch and thus interrupts the entire heating circuit in which the choke coil 3 and the four glow electrodes 2 are located, a voltage surge occurs in the choke coil 3 that corresponds to the open switch Entla,
dun.gsröhre 1 to Zünd @ un: g, where between their electrodes 2 a burning voltage of about 80 volts occurs. This is below the ignition voltage of the glow switch 6, so that it remains de-energized. The discharge flow first. The ignited tube now flows through the heating circuit of the other discharge tube, which is ignited when its glow switch is subsequently opened by a renewed voltage surge in the choke coil 3.
There are several advantages to operating two or more discharge tubes connected in series as shown in FIG. The choke coil 3 becomes smaller because its voltage surge only has to cause the ignition of a relatively short discharge tube.
In connection with this, the total burning voltage of the two discharge tubes 1 can reach a relatively high value, for example <B> 160 </B> volts, while at the same mains voltage of 220 volts with the provision of only one discharge tube with a maximum burning voltage of 19 -130 volts can be operated safely.
The better utilization of the mains voltage with the provision of two discharge tubes connected in series means a higher light yield and an improvement in the eos. g9. In addition, the handling of shorter fluorescent tubes of about 1 m length during manufacture, shipping and assembly is easier in practice;
Even with shorter fluorescent tubes, you achieve greater freedom of adaptation, the fluorescent tubes to the respective conditions at the place of use.
Special advantages for the ignition respectively. Reignition and the operation of the discharge tube result in devices according to the invention when, as FIG. 1-0 shows, a choke coil 3 and a capacitor 21 are connected in series with the glow switch 6 in such a way that the choke coil 3 at the same time the strombegren reducing series resistor, the discharge tube 1: forms.
The heating current flowing in the bypass line 5 can then be adjusted within wide limits as desired by appropriately dimensioning the capacitor 21. Depending on the size of the capacitor, the capacitive resistance of which counteracts the inductive resistance of the ballast inductor -e1, a smaller or larger sum resistance results which determines the current strength of the discharge in the glow switch 6.
As a rule, the choke coil 3 can be designed in such a way that: it has the resistance value that is most favorable for operation of the discharge tube 1.
Since the switching time of the glow switch 6 depends on the amperage of the glow discharge, an acceleration of the switching time can be achieved by amplifying its discharge current, which also results in a rather poor heating of the glow electrodes 2.
If the capacitor 21 is interchanged with the Dros selspule 3, so the capacitor is connected upstream of the discharge tube and the choke coil is placed in the bypass line, so there is also a: favorable capacitive reactive current load, g of the network. To dampen the discharge current surges of the capacitor, it is advisable to connect small resistors to the glow electrodes.
If both the choke coil 3 and the capacitor 21 are connected upstream of the discharge tube 1, so that only the glow switch 6 is in the bridging line 5, the discharge tube 1 then works after the bridge glow switch 6 has been switched off and after ignition has taken place the particularly favorable effects that occur with the series resonance switching known per se.
The new device can use both low: back discharge tubes and high pressure discharge lamps, e.g. B. the known, equipped with a Hüll.gefäß Qu e.ck- silver vapor lamps have.
In this case, the glow switch is expediently built into the envelope of the high-pressure lamp. Ausg <B> o </B> examples show. FIGS. 11 and 12 ..
In both cases, the quartz vessel 1 of the high-pressure tube contains a noble gas filling of about 10-40 mm pressure and so much mercury that in operation, after complete evaporation, an operating vapor pressure of more than 5, expediently of about 20 to 510 atmospheres arises. One of the glow electrodes 2 is heated by the discharge,
while the other is provided with two power supplies and is connected in series with the bridging line 5 which contains the glow switch 6: which is located in the interior of the envelope vessel 15.
In the device according to FIG. 11, the high-pressure discharge tube 1 is preceded by a resonance impedance arranged separately from the lamp; which consists of a choke coil 3 and a capacitor 21 and is tuned to approximately resonance with or network frequency.
The glow switch electrodes are arranged freely in the envelope 15, which creates a gas atmosphere suitable for the glow switch to work, e.g. B. contains a noble gas or nitrogen filling of for example 310 mm pressure.
When the cold high-pressure discharge lamp is switched on, the bypass glow switch will usually not respond because the ignition voltage of the high-pressure tube, in which only the low noble:
gas pressure prevails, is relatively low and will usually be lower than the ignition voltage of the glow switch. Accordingly, the high-pressure tube itself will ignite immediately: and in the course of the burn-in process it will enter the high-pressure state.
The bridging glow screen does not have the task of initial ignition in this case for use in low pressure discharge tubes; bring about. Rather, it only comes into effect when the high-pressure discharge unit is switched off after some operating time and is to be switched on again immediately afterwards.
In this case there is still a high vapor pressure in the discharge vessel 1 and the ignition voltage is so high that it is above the ignition voltage of the glow switch. In the case of such a repetition, the still hot high pressure eritladunbsröliie, the glowing age speaks first.
When the glow switch is closed and opened again, the ignition of the high-pressure tube is supported by the resonance overvoltages of the series impedance.
In the device according to FIG. 12, a filament filament 22 is provided to limit the current and is built into the envelope 15 of the high-pressure lamp. This lamp therefore requires separate accessories and can be used in conventional sockets like an incandescent lamp.
The glow switch 6 g <B> o </B> here again has a special switch vessel so that the filling of the envelope vessel 15 can be adapted to the requirements of the glow wire filament 22 without regard to the operation of the switch glow path. When the high-pressure tube, which is still hot, is switched on again, in the lamp according to FIG. 12, the ballast incandescent filament 22 is immediately heated up by the glow switch.
Immediately after it has been reinserted, the lamp delivers a light emitting from the filament filament 22, which after a while. the light radiation of the high pressure tube 1 is attached. To dampen an excessively large glow wire coil 22 endangering glow switch short-circuit currents, an auxiliary resistor can also be built into the bridging line 5.
When using low-pressure discharge stirring, the new device can be used to achieve a design that is excellently suited to practical use if the discharge tube, as shown in FIGS. 13-15, is provided with two indirectly heated glow electrodes, the heating wires of which are in the circuit of the Glow switch lie,
and also upstream of the electrodes of the discharge tube to limit the operating current.
When setting up according to Fig. 13 are preceded by the glow electrode sleeves 23 serving as Entla.duii ("sansa.tz) their heating wires 24 and also a small ferrous hydrogen resistor 25, which has a balancing effect in networks with strongly fluctuating voltage.
It is sufficient if) the operating resistance of the ferrous hydrogen resistance is 2: 5 smaller than the total resistance of the two electrode heating wires 24. In the bridging line 5, apart from the glow switch 6, there are also <I> two </I> inside the discharge tube 1 arranged Ziind @ glow- drälite 2,6, 27.
The ignition glow wire 26 is wound on an insulating sleeve which surrounds the inside part of the indirectly heated glow electrode 23. The ignition glow wire 2 7 is placed on the side next to the glow electrode.
The two glow wires are dimensioned in such a way that when the glow switch 6 responds they are immediately heated to emission temperature by the bridge current and consequently the discharge between the glow wires 26, 27 begins when the glow plug holder is opened.
The discharge tube 1. lights up immediately. Because of the low burning voltage of the discharge between the ignition devices 26, 2, 7, the glow switch 6 no longer responds and the bridge line remains disconnected.
The further heating of the ignition glow units 26, 27 now takes place through the discharge itself. The current of this discharge flows through the heating circuit 24 of the indirectly heated glow electrodes 23 and heats them up after: about 20 to 30 seconds on: that .the discharge now passes from: the ignition glow wires 2, 6, 2.7 to the electrodes 23.
This transition can be achieved by suitable Rückver set the ignition filament wires 26, 27 and thereby support that: that you provide the Glühelelz-tro: the 23 with better emitting substances or. so dimensioned that they take on a higher temperature than the ignition filament <B> 2 </B> 6, - 27.
The following are also advantageous here: the glow switch is accommodated in the base or in the discharge space of the tube. The bridging line 5 can also be arranged on or in the discharge tube so that the discharge tube can be used without separate accessories and only requires two socket contacts.
In order to attenuate switch-on current surges, the following can also be used: the electrode and heating wires 24 and the ferrous hydrogen resistor 25 also: a suitably dimensioned, so-called hot conductor resistor: first: d, z. B. made of magnesium titanate or uranium dioxide, the resistance value of which drops very sharply when heated.
The glow switch located in the bridging line 5 can, at the same time, as FIG. 14 shows, for ignition strips 28 which are known per se and are arranged on the outside or inside of the discharge tube 1.
The glow switch is in this case, with the omission of one: in particular: switch receptacle in the interior of the discharge tube 1, specifically behind the glow electrode in the annular space that surrounds the fusible base. One can: then easily achieve a long glow path with a suitably high ignition voltage, such as that in FIG. <B> 15 </B> shows the cross-section.
The ignition strip 2'8 is connected to a movable auxiliary contact 30 carried by the spring '29. This auxiliary contact 30 is the stop contact 8 for: the bimetallic strip 7 is somewhat in front of it, so: when the bimetal strip is rotated forwards, the ignition strip 2'8 is first put under tension.
With the further forward rotation of the bimetal strip 7, the contact of the bimetal strip then comes into contact with the stop 8, the glow switch 12 being closed. When moving back the bimetal strip and opening:
of the glow switch, the resilient contact 30 is still in contact with the contact of the bimetallic strip 7 for a short time, so that the ignition strip 28 promotes ignition. Only when the bimetal strip 7 continues to return to the starting position is the ignition strip 28 now also switched off.
With the auxiliary resistance in the bypass line: 31, the @ Strometäxke in the bypass line 5 can be set to the most favorable value.
You can also: arrange the bridging line 5 on or in the discharge tube and, through its capacitive effect, support the ignition of the discharge tube h. In this case it is advisable to provide a glow switch at both ends of the discharge tube:
one contact of which is connected to the adjacent glow electrode and the other contact is connected to the bridging line. After opening the two glow switches, the bridging line is then switched off in two poles; it is therefore unpunished in operation.
In: individual cases it is desirable to keep the current: of the glow discharge of the Glimmecha.l- ter very small without at the same time damping its short-circuit current. B. to: protect the strongly electron-emitting substances applied to its electrodes and -a long service life of:
Switch to achieve the same ignition voltage. This succeeds if, according to FIG. 16, an auxiliary electrode 34 is assigned to the bimetal strip 7 and an auxiliary resistor 32: is connected upstream of it in such a way that it is not in the short-circuit circuit: of the glow switch.
The short-circuit current strength is thus: not reduced by the auxiliary resistor 32 and: therefore: the heating of the glow electrodes 2 is not delayed. An expedient embodiment of such a glow switch with auxiliary electrode 34 and auxiliary resistor 32 is shown in FIG. 17.
The glow switch shown there consists of a small, gas-filled glass tube, in the axis of which the bimetallic strip 7 is arranged, over which the auxiliary electrode 34, formed as a hollow cylinder, is pushed. This auxiliary electrode 34 and the bimetal strip 7 are both provided with strongly electron-emitting substances and represent the electrodes of the glow discharge line.
The auxiliary electrode 34 is via the auxiliary resistor. 32 electrically connected to the power supply to the mating contact 8. To compensate for external temperature differences, it is also recommended here to fasten the mating contact 8 also on a bimetal strip.
The auxiliary resistor 32 is formed by a high-resistance wire which is wound around the bimetal strip 7 and additionally heats it.
The auxiliary resistor 32 serving as an additional heating element can also be arranged laterally next to the bimetal strip 7.
If you dispense with an additional Hei tion of the bimetallic, tire 7 through the auxiliary resistor 32, this can also be accommodated in the base of the glow switch. Instead of a resistance wire, the auxiliary resistive element 32 can also consist of a resistance mass, for example an ion ring which surrounds the melting connection 33 of the pump tube in the base of the glow switch.
The new device may contain discharge tubes of any kind, e.g. B. low-pressure or high-pressure lamps for lighting or irradiation purposes, the filling of which consists of gases, vapors or gas-vapor mixtures; also rectifiers, stabilizers, etc.
One main area of application is the operation of so-called fluorescent tubes which, in addition to a noble gas at low pressure, for example Angon of 2r20 Torr, also contain some mercury and have a coating of fluorescent substances on the inside of the tube wall, which through the strong ultraviolet rays;
, the Q.ueek silver low pressure discharge are stimulated to emit light.
