Process and installation for the manufacture of fiber cement tubes by centrifuging. The subject of the invention is a method and an installation for the manufacture of fiber-cement centrifuged tubes, for example of asbestos and cement.
Centrifuging has already been adopted for the manufacture of hollow cement posts, but hitherto no consideration has been given to applying it to the manufacture of fiber cement pipes. The studies and research carried out have shown that centrifuging is a very suitable manufacturing process for the manufacture of fiber cement tubes.
It has already been proposed to subject cement pipes to hydraulic or pneumatic compression, carried out from the inside to the outside. This compression in the centrifugal direction inevitably produces an expansion of the inner surface of the forming tube, under the effect of which irregularities and discontinuities are formed, which are accentuated, in the case of fiber cement, due to the presence of fibers.
The method, which is the subject of the invention, eliminates this drawback by the fact that the fiber cement paste introduced into a rotary mold is subjected to centrifuging by imparting a rotational movement to the latter, then in that it is subjects the tube before drying to centripetal compression.
The installation for carrying out the method comprises a rotating tubular mold, a distributor movable axially relative to the mold, and a compression device comprising a tubular body inside which is disposed a flexible pipe having in its state normal, unstretched, an inside diameter smaller than the outside diameter of the tube to be formed.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example only, an installation for implementing the method according to the invention.
Fig. 1 is an axial section of the mold; fig. 2 is an axial section of the feed device; fig. 3. is a section taken along line III-III of 1a fig. 1; fig. 4 is a top view of the feed device; fig. 5 is a cross section thereof, and FIG. 6 -is an axial longitudinal section of the centri fart compression device.
According to one embodiment of the method which is the subject of the invention, the material is introduced into the mold in the form of a ribbon, which winds in a helix against the wall of the mold. During feeding, the mold is maintained at a relatively low speed of rotation, for example 1000) revolutions, variable according to the diameter of the tube, to prevent too high cen trifugal forces which would lead to stratification of the constituents of the dough. When the feeding is completed, the speed of rotation is increased, bringing it to two or three times the initial number of revolutions (for example to about 3000 revolutions), in order to eliminate the mixing water and to compress matter.
By utilizing the property of the fiber cement tube of retaining its shape before the cement has set, the tube can advantageously be subjected, as soon as it has left the mold, to compression to further increase its strength. For this purpose, it is threaded onto a mandrel before a diameter equal to that of the final tube that is to be obtained, and a perfectly smooth surface and it is brought, thus mounted, into an apparatus, in which it is subjected to centri fart compression by hydraulic or pneumatic means. In this way, a tube with a compact structure is obtained which is much more resistant than those obtained by the known processes (the manufacturing process and having its perfectly smooth inner wall.
To the drawing. 1 is a slider in which the base plate 2 is mounted on ball or roller bearings, provided with a control pulley 3, and to which a tubular body 4 is attached, intended to contain and support the mold 5 .
The tubular body 4 is kept centered during its rapid rotational movement by means of rollers 6 mounted on pivots 7 fixed to a ring 8: a circular series of centering screws 9 engage with an annular series of projections 10 on the outer surface. conical widening upwards with which the mold is provided, which is furthermore kept centered at the bottom by means of the conical housing 11 of the base plate, in which the conical bottom 12 of the form engages. In the housing 11 are formed channels 13, through which the excess water of the paste discharges to the outside through the central hole 14 of the crapaudine.
For this purpose, the mold 5 is provided with radial holes 15, so that, during the centrifuging, the excess water flows into the annular space 16 between the mold and the mold holder and, as soon as the The action of the centrifugal force ceases, it ash towards the discharge.
The mold 5 is locked in position simply by means of the cap 17, screwed on the mold holder, so that, when the casting is finished, it can easily be extracted by removing the cap and rotating the mold a few degrees while view to release the projections 10 from the screws 9.
Above the mold holder is placed the dough distributor, consisting of a cylindrical tank 18, mounted to move vertically on guide columns 19.
The paste is fed by means of a long tube 20, terminating in a distribution nozzle 21 and entering axially into the mold 5. The material is forced through the nozzle by means of a piston 22, slidably mounted in the reservoir and actuated by means of an electric motor 23, (it controls a helical wheel 24, screwed on 1a threaded rod 25 of the piston.
Under the action of the piston 22, the paste is drawn through the nozzle 21 with a horizontal axis and is sent, in the form of a ribbon, against the wall of the mold, on which it is deposited. By the effect of the vertical displacement of the reservoir and of the nozzle which is integral with it, the paste is deposited on the wall of the mold in the form of a propeller.
Under the influence of centrifugal force, this blade is compressed, so as to form a uniform layer, in which]; a. The fibrous material of the dough has undergone such an intensive felting process that it binds the cement particles together and gives the tube a sufficient consistency to maintain its shape, even if it is unmolded immediately after its formation.
The ratio between the speed of movement of the reservoir and the exit speed of the paste determines the thickness of the wall of the tube; it is obvious that one can, however, achieve this thickness by one or more strokes of the distributor; in the latter case, the ribbon of the dough is arranged in superimposed helices, which can be alternately to the right and to the left, suitably effecting the inversion of the movements of the reservoir.
Naturally, instead of the piston, hydraulic or pneumatic means can be used for feeding the material, or else gravity can be used quite simply.
It has been observed that the centrifuging surprisingly favors the felting of the fibers, so that the centrifuge tube immediately assumes a sufficient consistency to be able to be removed from the mold before the cement has set.
Thanks to this property of the centri fugé tube, it is possible, when it has reached the desired thickness, to remove the mold and the tube from the mold holder, and to remove the tube from the mold without risk of deforming it. The tube is then threaded onto a mandrel and it is subjected to centripetal compression, by means of the device shown in FIG. 6.
This device consists of a frame, comprising a lower plate 26, columns 27 and an upper plate 28, as well as a tubular body 29, which can be fixed in the frame by means of the clamping screw 30 provided with a handwheel in the hand.
In the cavity of the tubular body 29, having the profile of the outer surface of the tube to be manufactured, there is arranged a flexible tube 31, for example made of rubber, having, at normal pressure, an inside diameter smaller than the outside diameter of the tube. in finished fiber cement, in order to avoid wrinkles during the compression operation. In order to be able to thread the tube being formed, which has a larger diameter, into this flexible tube, the vacuum is previously produced in the space between the flexible tube 32 and the tubular body 29, so that the latter leaves free, by expanding , space for the insertion of the fiber cement pipe 32.
As soon as the tube 32 is demolded, it is threaded onto the tubular mandrel 33, then it is introduced into the tubular body 29 and it is clamped axially by means of the screw 30 between the bases 34 and the cover M; the latter also serve to hermetically connect the flexible pipe 31 to the ends of the tubular body 29.
When the tubular body 29 is mounted in the frame with the tube being formed, a liquid or a gas subjected to the desired pressure is brought into the space between this body and the flexible pipe, so as to compress the paste in the centripetal direction. against the man drin. By this operation, the material undergoes a thickening, which considerably improves the felting of the fibers and makes the structure very compact and strong.
The mandrel 33 is provided with holes for the exit of the excess water from the dough, which can thus discharge freely through the axial hole 36.
The tube 32 in formation, after the compression and after the cement has set, is subjected to the usual boring operation for the formation of a glass seal.
In addition, is formed: advantageously on the inner wall of the finished fiber-cement tube, electrolytically, or by spraying: or in any other suitable manner, a metal coating, in order to reduce the resistance to . the flow of liquids or gases, and to obtain the total impermeability of the wall as well as the inalterability of fluids or gases flowing years: the tube.
It is obvious that the clamping screw 30 can be replaced by any other known clamping device, for example conical pin, cam.
