Starting device for internal combustion engines. The invention relates to a starting device for internal combustion engines, in which the drive member, e.g. B. the pinion is connected to the drive shaft of the device by a friction disc clutch which can transmit the full torque during the meshing of the drive member less than a quarter of the full torque and only after meshing.
With these starting devices, it can happen that the torque actually transmitted by the friction disks when setting to low torque is so low that it is not sufficient to always turn the pinion safely when engaging. The reason for this is that the state of the lubricant between the friction plates changes. Another disadvantage is that, under normal starting conditions, the pinion already reaches the speed it had during the starting process when it meshes.
According to the invention, both disadvantages are avoided in that the drive member is driven during meshing by a gear connected in parallel to the friction disc clutch, which gear drives the drive member with reduction, preferably in the direction of rotation of the friction clutch.
In the drawing, a flywheel starter is shown in section as an embodiment of the subject matter of the invention. 10 is a hollow shaft which is supported at the outer end in a bearing 11 and at the inner end on the hub 12 of a support plate 13.
In this support plate bearing pins 14 for planetary gears 15 are attached, which roll on a fixed sun gear 16 and are in engagement with a gear 17 which is connected to a flywheel 18, in which energy can be stored up in a known manner for turning an internal combustion engine . The drive device for the flywheel is not shown here. The hollow shaft 10 is connected to the planetary gear by a clutch 19 friction plates. The driving part of the clutch is formed by a drum 20 which is rigidly connected to the support plate 13 and is rotatably mounted in the starter housing.
The driven part of the coupling is a compression nut 21 which can screw ver on a thread 22 of the hollow shaft 10. Between the drum and the nut there are friction disks 23, which rest on one side against a flange 24 of the press nut and on the other side against a press plate 25. The pressure plate can be supported against spring washers 26 and these can be supported against a stop 27 fastened on the hollow shaft.
In the press nut sit in longitudinal bores 28 compression springs 29, which are supported at one end via bolts 30 against the spring washers 26 and at the other end via bolts 31 against the press nut with the effect that in the @uliel @@@; c of the starter the Press nut is pressed away from the friction disks by the bolts and springs 29.
The drum is extended beyond the friction disks and the press nut so that the parts of the friction disk clutch located inside the drum can be shifted in it. At the protruding end of the drum is closed by a cover plate 32 abge. In the rest position of the starter, the bolts 31 are at a distance a from the cover plate. The starting device is to be arranged with respect to the motor ring gear 34 in such a way that this distance is greater than the distance b of the pinion 33 from the motor ring gear 34.
On this plate two or more bolts 40 are fastened to the same diameter. On these bolts sit rotatably and longitudinally displaceable friction rollers 41 with ko African side surfaces. One surface rests on a conical surface of a ring 42 attached to the starter housing, while a pressure disk 43 is pressed by a spring 44 on the other surface.
The thrust washer has: a hub 46 which is longitudinally displaceable on the hollow shaft and has a groove 47 in which a wedge 48 located in the hollow shaft engages. The diameter of the circle on which the pressure disk touches the friction roller is smaller than the diameter of the circle on which the ring 42 rests. On the hollow shaft there is a stop 49 which, after a path c, which is greater than the distance b of the pinion from the ring gear of the motor, hits the thrust washer. In the hollow shaft 10, the pinion 33 is inserted with a grooved shaft 51 and is held by a screw bolt 52 which is screwed into a transverse wall 53 of the hollow shaft.
For the longitudinal displacement of the hollow shaft and the pinion, a push rod 54 which passes through the hollow shaft and which can be actuated by hand or in any way by an electromagnet is used.
The device works in the following way: To start the BennkTaft machine by means of the starting device described, the flywheel must first be brought to a high speed of around 15,000-18,000 revolutions per minute. The rotations of the flywheel are transmitted to the drum 20 hitch through the planetary gear. The reduction of the planetary gear is about 6: 1, so that the drum has a speed of about 2000-3000 per minute.
This speed is required at the pinion in order to bring the internal combustion engine to the speed necessary for the jump to. The rotation of the drum is communicated via the friction disks of the nut 21 and thus also of the hollow shaft 10. Since the press nut 21 is prevented from acting on the friction disks by the springs 29 and bolts 30, 31, only the low torque that the friction disks can transmit due to the adhesive effect of the lubricant located between them is present.
In addition to the friction disks, the friction rollers 41 also transmit a torque to the disk 43 coupled to the hollow shaft 10. The reduction from the drum to the hollow shaft via the friction rollers is determined by the ratio of the diameter of the contact circles of the friction surfaces of the ring 42 and the disc 43 and is expediently chosen so that the hollow shaft rotates at 200-300 revolutions per minute.
Since the friction disks 23 of the coupling, as mentioned, are under no pressure, they slide past each other without any significant transmission of force and allow the friction to roll over the torque transmission.
When the flywheel has reached the desired speed, will. brought the pinion by means of the rod 54 into engagement with the motor ring gear 34. Here, the hollow shaft 10 with the friction disc clutch located thereon and the stop 49 is pushed ver. When the shaft has covered the distance c, the pinion having already penetrated a little way into the ring gear, the stop 49 lifts the disk 43 against the pressure of the spring 44 from the friction roller 41 and thus switches off the friction roller transmission, so that the further power transmission is now only acted by the friction disc clutch.
This is initially still relaxed until after covering the path a, the Bol zen 31 abut against the wall 32 and ent against the pressure of the springs 29 are pressed in with further displacement of the hollow shaft. As a result, the pressure of the bolts on the press nut is canceled, so that the press nut can screw ver onto the hollow shaft 10 and make the friction disk clutch fully force-locked.
After the internal combustion engine has been started, the strong spring 44 drives the hollow shaft with the pinion and the friction disk clutch back into the initial position when the rod 54 is released.
Any desired reduction from the clutch drum 20 to the hollow shaft 10 can be achieved by appropriate selection of the two friction surface diameters on the friction roller. The direction of rotation can even be reversed, namely by choosing the diameter of the contact circle of the friction surface for the Seheibe 43 to be greater than that of the contact circle of the ring 42.
