En quittant ce dernier, le ruban imprimé va directement s'enrouler sur le tambour 6. Celui-ci est entraîné dans le sens de la flèche par un encliquetage (non représenté), dont un des organes est solidaire d'un pignon 24;
Device for advancing and guiding the paper in so-called "stenotypes" stenographic machines. The present invention relates to an advancement device. and guiding the paper ribbon in the stenography machines called "stenotypes".
In these machines, the paper is used in the form of a ribbon which unwinds from a reel placed at the rear of the machine and bypasses the striking cylinder to go to wind on a drum mounted on a high support. of the machine.
In these machines, the paper ribbon progresses from bottom to top of a. line after each strike under the action of the return spring of the universal bar which turns the striking cylinder and also causes the rotation of a fraction of a turn of the paper winding drum, just as it unrolls this last of the spool by pulling on the corresponding strand.
In known machines of this kind, the paper reel is mounted on a .axe which must be introduced into the elastic grippers of a support placed on the rear of the machine. This device is expensive and complicates the maneuvers for placing and removing the reel, which it is, however, desirable to make as rapid as possible.
According to the invention, the support of the paper roll is constituted by a transverse axis fixed in cantilever on an articulated arm on one side of the console of the machine, the paper roll being mounted on a handle. chon crossed by said axis and whose interior diameter is much greater than that of said axis.
This arrangement is of a very simple construction.
The attached drawing shows, by way of example, part of a stenotype provided with the device according to the invention.
Fig. 1 is a rear view.
"Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the rear part of the machine, viewed from the left side of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is an elevation of the same part, viewed from the right side of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a view similar to that of FIG. 2, the paper holder support being partially cut, and showing the organs in the working position.
Fig. 5 shows the upper part of this support, with the members in the disengaged position.
1 designates the frame of the machine., The mechanism of which is covered by a protective cover 2. On this frame is fixed a bracket 3 which protects the sides and the rear of the machine and on the uprights of which a desk is articulated 4 tilted back. On one side, this desk is extended upwards. by an arm 5 at the upper end of which is rotatably mounted a drum 6 having its axis of rotation directed transversely. The drum is arranged. so that it is exactly to the right of said console 4.
The latter is provided on its two sides with lateral wings 7 and 8, with the aid of which it is articulated on the corset 3 and on which are articulated respectively. two arms 9 and 10. One, 9, carries on its inner side a non-rotating transverse axis 11 provided with cheeks 12 and 13 of which. the gap. corresponds approximately to the width of the paper reel 14 which is to be used in the machine.
This coil is mounted on a sleeve 15 in carbon or other suitable material, the inner diameter of which is much greater than the diameter of the cheek 13 which is located at the cantilever end of the axis 11, so that the installation of the coil can be effected with extreme simplicity by carefully threading the sleeve 15 over the cheek 13.
The coil is removed with the same simplicity by passing the sleeve in the opposite direction. This means of mounting the paper reel provides sufficient certainty for its maintenance in alignment with the printing members of the machine. It also prevents to a certain extent the fall of the spool under the action of the jolts which may be imparted to it by the jerky advance of the paper.
For greater safety, however, there is provided a latch formed by the arm 10, articulated on the wing 8 of the console 4, so that it \ can be folded back under the action of its weight and come to stand level. axis 11. If, by handling the machine or by transporting it, it is subjected to a strong inclination or a jerk tending to make the coil 14 pass over the cheek 13., the latch 10 folded down bars it. the way and keep it from falling.
Thanks to. the free suspension of the spool 14 on the axis 11 by means of a sleeve 15 of a diameter much greater than that of this axis, the spool is braked, which constantly ensures a slight tension of the tape of pa pier and prevents the formation of loops as a result of the throw.
On leaving the reel 1.4, the paper tape 16 enters the interior of the machine through a notch 17 made in the rear wall of the corset 3, and engages between the striking cylinder 18 and the pressure roller 19. The tape pressed against the striking cylinder 18 is driven by it in the direction indicated by the arrow.
To prevent the flapping of the paper flap, it is passed under two lugs 20 formed on a plate 21 which is fixed to the rear wall of the corset 3 by two screws 22. Elongated holes 23 allow the position of this to be adjusted. wafer. The tape is engaged between the bottom of the notch 17 of the corset and the two lugs 20 which exert a slight pressure on its edges such that the guidance is exactly provided.
On leaving the latter, the printed tape will wind up directly on the drum 6. The latter is driven in the direction of the arrow by a snap (not shown), one of the members of which is secured to a pinion 24;
the latter is engaged with a toothed sector 25 forming. part of a control lever with two arms 26 whose pivot axis is placed at 27 and whose lower end is connected to the universal bar 28 by any suitable connecting means. The ascent and descent movements of the. universal bar 28 produce corresponding bone cillations of the lever 26 and of the toothed sector 25 and, consequently, reciprocating rotational movements of the pin 24 which.
by means of the not shown latching, rotates the drum 6 in the only direction indicated by the arrow.
When unwinding the printed paper tape stored on the drum, to move up to the beginning of the inscribed text, the toothed sector 25, driven by the pinion 24, clicks on the teeth of this pinion and causes wear. premature of the teeth as well as of the upper tooth of the toothed sector 25; the noise thus caused can interfere with listening: and recording by neighboring stenotypists.
To suppress this noise, avoid this wear and at the same time facilitate the unwinding of the coil of the drum 6, it is. a means is provided which brings the toothed sector 25 out of engagement with the pinion 24, so that the latter can rotate freely. This means, in the example shown, consists, for example, of a cam 29 whose axis 30 is rotatably mounted in the wing 8 of the arm 5 - and which can be operated from the outside to the 'help from a small net 31.
Fig. 4 shows the rest position of the cam for which the sector 25 is in engagement with the teeth of the pinion 24 and actuates the drum 6. FIG. 5 shows the position of the cam 29 for which the toothed sector 25 is kept out of engagement with the teeth of the pinion 24. Nothing can then hinder the free rotation of the drum and the tape can easily be unwound or rolled according to the instructions. needs.
