Footwear and process for its manufacture. The present invention relates to a shoe and to a process for its manufacture.
In the shoe according to the invention, the sole has a wear part, to which is fixed a marginal band comprising a base part and a lip, the free edge of which is turned towards the inside of the sole.
The process for the manufacture of this shoe consists of putting the comb of the shoe on the form and that a rim projecting outwardly which is introduced under the lip is provided on this upper. of the marginal band so as to retain the sole on the upper.
The drawing represents, by way of example, embodiments of the shoe according to the invention. and shows, also by way of example, how one can proceed to make these embodiments.
Fig. 1 is a section through part of the sole of a first embodiment, the. marginal band being shown before its attachment to the sole.
Figs. 2 and 3 are sections similar to that of FIG. -1 of the soles of two to the very forms of execution.
Fig. 4 shows a section of the sole of a fourth embodiment.

The fi-. 15 is a detailed cross section of the. front part of the inner sole of a variant of the. shoe shown partially in FIG. 11.
The fi-. 16 is a detail cross section of the upper on the shape of the. variant relating to the fi-. 15.
Figs. 17 and 18 are detail sections showing two ways of trimming the comb head shown in FIG. 16.
Figs. 19, 20 and 21 are sections of the insoles of variants similar to that of the. fig. 15.
In the first embodiment (fi-. 1) the wear part 1 () of the sole has its outer edge bevelled at 11, so as to thin it. On this amin cie marginal part of the wear part is applied the base part 1.3 of a marginal band 12. This band 12 comprises a lip 14 in one piece with the part 13, arranged along the outer edge of this. part 13 and extending towards the inside of the sole. The marginal band 12 may extend all the way along the arch and the toe portion of the sole, or entirely around the sole, including the heel, or it may terminate at the location of the sole. greater width of the front part of the sole. The upper face of the marginal strip is flat over its entire width.
Instead of the. base part and the lip of the. marginal band 12 are in one piece, as shown in fig. 1, they can be distinct. In the embodiment of the. fig. 2, the base part 16 is made of a strip of heavy canvas, to the outer edge of which is fixed the lip 17, extending inward, and covering the base part 16 on one side. The top <B> of '</B> the marginal part forming the lip is flat over its entire width and the strip of fabric 16 ends a little inside the outer edge of the lip 17, so that, when the.
base part 16 and lip 1.7 are fixed on the sole, using a stitch 15 (fig. 4), 'the pieces are assembled so that the edge of the fabric does not stick along the edge of the sole. In the four embodiments shown in FIGS. 1 to 4, the lip extends less far inwards on the sole than the base part of the marginal strip and the comb has a rim projecting outwardly and fixed under the lip by gluing, this rim covering the base part of the marginal band so that there is no bonding by gluing between the wear part of the sole and other parts of the safe shoe.
The total thickness of the sole on its edge is at most equal to the thickness of the sole inside the marginal band.
In the embodiment of the. fig. 3, the outer edge of the fabric strip 16 is. in troduit in a slit of the lip 18, so that when these parts are fixed by a stitching on the wear part 10 of the sole, the outer edge of the fabric is completely hidden.
The stitching securing the marginal band to the wear portion of the sole is. outer vamp. Instead of passing right through the wear part, the stitching could also, in the embodiments which have just been described, only pass through the upper part of this wear part of the sole.
Here is how we could make one of the shoes just discussed. We put. the upper on a form 20 (fig. 5) and it is fixed by its outer edge to a reinforcement piece 21, placed on the underside of the form along its edge using a stitch 22 This part 21 can be temporarily fixed to the underside of the. shape 20. A thin strip 23 is also attached to the outer face of the edge of the upper of the shoe by this stitching. These marginal portions of the upper are turned outward and then trimmed so that the edge of the strip 23 forms a rim 24 protruding outwardly (Fig. 6).
This rim is coated with glue and then introduced under the lip of the marginal band of the sole by moving the upper on form forward in relation to the sole, which produces a rusting worm between the upper. and the sole, which helps the connection between these parts. Then let the glue set. The region of the wear portion of the sole, which lies within the beveled edges 11, serves as a fill within the flange 24 securing the upper. When the lip 14 of the marginal strip of the sole extends into the narrowed part of the sole or around the heel of the shoe, it may be necessary to raise the lip on the narrowed part of the sole of the shoe. so as to allow the parts to be assembled.
The lip can be brought back to its normal position just before applying pressure securing the sole in place.
It is preferable to secure the lip 14 of the marginal band to the sole before it is engaged and to secure it to the upper on the last, as this keeps it shaped to engage the flange 24 of the liner. upper, but can be applied to the upper on the form first if desired. With a separate wear part attached only by stitching, this worn wear part can be easily removed to resole the shoe and, when, as shown in FIG. 4, this stitching is entirely on the outside of the upper, the new wearing part can be fixed using the ordinary stitching for the outer soles, as is the case with welted shoes.
We could also proceed as follows (fig. 7 and 8): We put the upper on the form and we stitch its edge on a piece 22 placed on the underside of the form along its edge by means of a stitch 25 which has such a dimension and has a chain stitch sequence appearing on the outside such that it forms on the vamp a rim 26 projecting outwardly which Fon introduces and fixes under the lip of the marginal strip of the sole to rust these parts, after which the form is removed.
Instead of the piece, to which the edges of the upper are attached, being attached directly to the last, it may form part of an insole (Fig. 11).
This insole comprises a part 27 having a reinforcing fabric 28 on its underside. In this variant of the embodiment of FIGS. 5 and 6, it is not the edge of a separate piece that forms the protruding rim of the comb, but the edges of the material forming the upper are turned outwards, as shown at 29, so as to constitute the ledge protruding towards. the outside of the upper on the form which locks under the lip of the marginal band of the sole.
To manufacture the variant of the fifth embodiment shown in FIG. 12, one can proceed as follows: the upper is placed on a form 20 and its edge is fixed to a reinforcing piece placed on the edge of the underside of the form and temporarily fixed to this form. The edge of the upper is then turned outwards to form the flange 29 which is introduced under the lip of the marginal band of the sole to fix it there by gluing, as described in the case of the shoe of FIGS. 5 and 6.
The embodiment shown in FIG. 9 comprises an upper which is identical to that of the example of FIG. 6, the marginal part of the upper being stitched onto a piece of reinforcement - and a band fixed by this stitching to the outer face of the comb em. The reinforcement piece is attached to a thin edge formed from a thin insole 30, the central part of which has been cut out and removed after shaping has been performed; this central part is shown at 31 as partially raised.
After this cutting, the rim of the upper is introduced and fixed under the lip of the marginal strip stitched on the wear part of the sole. The lip of the marginal strip extends less inwardly over the sole than the base portion which is. covered by the edge of the comb. When the. insole is cut in this way, the sole of the finished shoe has great flexibility.
In the embodiment of FIG. 1C) the marginal strip of the sole has a base part on which the lip projects laterally towards the inside of the sole. This marginal band is provided with an ornamental piqfire which gives the appearance. of a welt of a welt-sewn shoe, when the shoe is finished, without having the disadvantage that the stitching appears under the. Shoe female.
This marginal strip can be glued or otherwise secured to the. wear part of the sole and it is good to coat the. lower face of the. pyroxyline glue lip to stiffen it and to facilitate bonding to the glue with the upper.
In the. embodiment of fig. 5 and 6 as well as in its variants, it can. happen that the materials constituting the upper do not take the. sticks very satisfactorily. In the variants of this embodiment shown in FIGS. 13 and 1.1, this drawback has been remedied.
In the variant of FIG. 13, the flange 45 protruding outwardly from the upper is den telé so as to allow the. glue to penetrate therein, so that when it is hardened it acts as protuberances constituting integral parts filling the dentures of the hollow rim and directly connecting the lip to the. upper face of the sole thus giving a better grip with it.
In the. variant of fig. 14, the rim projecting outwards from the upper (glued to it under the lip of the marginal strip of the sole has

In both cases, the final shape of the rim protruding from the upper is the same.
The tongue of the insole could form part of an added piece consisting either of a narrow strip 62 as in FIG. 19, or by a layer 63 extending over the entire width of this inner melle (Figs. 20 and 21). This piece can be leather or canvas and be fixed by gluing or by stitching. It should be noted that in all of the embodiments described, the top of the lip is flat over its entire width, so that in the finished stitch it gives the appearance of the exposed top of the welt. of a welted shoe or the top of a sole of a single-sole shoe.
