<I>Beispiel 3:</I> 20 Teile kristallisiertes Kupferformiat werden in 500 Teilen 40%igem Formaldehyd gelöst und 20 Teile frischgefälltes Calcium- carbonat zugesetzt.
Die Ausbeute be trägt somit 8\? % Butindiol und 5 % Propar- gylalkohol.
Process for producing a mixture of alcohols from acetylene grinders. It has been found that a mixture of alcohols of the acetylene series is obtained in an extremely simple manner if formaldehyde is reacted with acetylene in the presence of catalysts.
The reaction proceeds particularly easily at a moderately elevated temperature, for example at 40-150.degree. It can, if necessary, also continuously, be carried out at ordinary, reduced or increased pressure. When working under increased pressure, e.g. B. at pressures between 2 and 30 atmospheres, it is recommended that the acetylene with inert gases, for. B. nitrogen, hydrogen or carbon dioxide, to use diluted.
It is also possible, for example, to use arc acetylene, which contains up to about 2.0% acetylene.
The reaction proceeds in two directions with the formation of a monohydric alcohol (see formula I) and with the formation of a dihydric alcohol (see formula II)
EMI0001.0018
It is generally expedient to work in the liquid phase in the presence of solvents and suspending agents. As such, for example, water, alcohols, ethers or mixtures thereof and hydrocarbons are suitable. It is preferable to work with a weakly acidic or neutral reaction.
If the reaction liquid is very alkaline, the alcohol mixture obtained can be split up into acetylene and formaldehyde. The hydrogen ion concentration is therefore expediently between PH = 2.5 and PH = 12. In the case of a strongly acidic reaction, the Schivermetall-Acetylenverbinduil "-eii acting as a catalyst are decomposed more or less quickly with elimination of the acetylene hydrocarbon, so that no or only a poor Implementation is achieved.
Suitable catalysts are the acetylene compounds of the heavy metals of groups 1 and 2 of the periodic .System dei elements, in particular the acetylene compound of copper. The reaction can be carried out in the presence of the acetylene compounds of the colored heavy metals prepared beforehand, or the acetyl compounds themselves can be formed during the reaction.
This is done, for example, by adding a heavy metal salt, for example cugro chloride or cupric chloride, and a compound to the reaction mixture. which binds the acid released from the metal salt by the formation of the acetylene compound. Such substances are preferably salts: the alkali and alkaline earth metals and magnesium. weak acids, e.g.
B. the form = ate, acetates, carbonates and bicarbonates. Also Erdalkalihvdroxvde, z. B. calcium or barium hydroxide. as well as other weakly basic substances come into consideration, z. B. zinc oxide, zinc carbonate, alkali phosphates and silicates.
The connections of Acety Jens with the heavy metals of the 1st and?. Groups of the periodic table of elements can be produced in a manner known per se. For example, acetylene is introduced into solutions or suspensions of salts of the heavy metals mentioned. z.
B. on copper phosphate, acetate, cuprous chloride, cuprichloride, ammoniacal copper sulfate, silver nitrate or mercury chloride or mixtures of these salts, if necessary in addition to one of the named acid-binding agents. The visual metal compounds obtained are, for example, suctioned off ,
freed from residues of the adhering solution by washing with water or organic solvents and reused in moist form.
The acetylene uptake is due to the addition of bodies with a large surface, z. B. Kiesel.bur, silica gel or active charcoal are favored. These surface-active substances can also be impregnated with a solution of the aforementioned heavy metals and then the heavy metal or oil salt adsorbed on the active surface or a mixture of several such salts, e.g. B. a K = copper and ': silver salt, treat with acetylene.
The alkynols obtained using the new process were previously very difficult to access. As a result of their aiisseroidentical ability to implement them, they are able to produce the most varied of technically valuable substances.
Example <I> 1: </I> 50 parts are 30% via formaldehyde; with a catalyst made of 1 part acetylene copper, 0.15 part acetylene silver and? Partially fuller's earth is added and placed in a stirred autoclave made of stainless steel at <B> 100 '</B> C with a nitrogen mixture?:
1 treated to saturation. The acetylene copper used was made from a solution of 5 parts of crystallized copper sulfate in 200 parts of water. 0 parts of 20% ammonia and 15 parts of hydrochloric acid by introducing acetylene at room temperature,
Filter off and wash out with water. The acetylene silver was produced in the same way from a solution of 0.2 part of silver nitrate in 50 parts of water and 2 parts of 20% ammonia. The acetylene compounds washed with water were thoroughly mixed with 2 parts of fuller's earth and water, filtered off and added moist to the formaldehyde.
When the reaction product is worked up by filtering off the catalyst and evaporating off the water, the theoretical yield of 1,4-butynediol also gives small amounts of propargyl alcohol.
<I> Example 2: </I> A mixture of 500 parts of 30% formaldehyde, 1500 parts of tetrahydrofuran and 21 parts of a feuehten copper acetylide catalyst containing 42 parts of copper a @ cetylide per 100 parts of kieselguhr is pressed in one Stainless steel pressure vessel is filled with 5 at pressure and acetylene at 10 at pressure.
Ace tylene is continuously injected at 10.0-105 ° C. until 2/3 of the calculated amount of acetylene has been absorbed after about 23 hours. The tetrahydrofuran is then distilled off with water at normal pressure, and the propargyl alcohol is then distilled off under reduced pressure at 40-50 mm high pressure, together with further amounts of water.
In the manner described in Example 1, 1,4-butynediol can be obtained from the residue with a boiling point of 115-120 ° C. at 1-2 mm pressure. Potassium carbonate is added to the aqueous propargyl alcohol solution until it is saturated, and the alcohol separates out as 01. It is taken up with ether, dried with potassium carbonate, neutralized and then distilled.
This gives propargyl alcohol in 5'9% yield and 1,4-butynediol in 29% yield, which corresponds to a total yield of 88% (calculated on the formaldehyde converted).
Example 3: 20 parts of crystallized copper formate are dissolved in 500 parts of 40% formaldehyde and 20 parts of freshly precipitated calcium carbonate are added. The mixture obtained in this way is poured into a pressure-tight vessel and treated at SO-100'C with a mixture of 2 parts of acetylene and 1 part of nitrogen at a pressure of 15-20 atm.
The acetylene consumed by the reaction is made continuous by the pressing of undiluted acetylene. added. After about 12 hours, the theoretically required amount of acetylene has been taken up. The acetylene copper formed during the reaction and the calcium carbonate are then filtered off. The filtrate is distilled in vacuo.
After the water and propargyl alcohol present have passed over, the 1,4-butynediol formed by the reaction distills over at 125-127'C under 2 mm Hg pressure. This crystallizes in white, shiny platelets. Its melting point is <B> 58'C. </B> Instead of nitrogen, other gases, such as carbon dioxide, can also be used to dilute the acetylene.
<I> Example 4: </I> 40 parts each of copper chloride and basic magnesium carbonate are slurried in a stirred vessel with a solution of 2 parts of iSilver nitrate in <B> 1.50 </B> parts of water and at <B> 70 'C </B> treated with acetylene while stirring until the initially light yellow color has turned dark red-brown.
The mixture of copper and silver acetylene compounds obtained in this way is filtered off, washed out with water and added, while still moist, to 1000 parts of a 30% i.gen formaldehyde solution, which is located in a stainless steel pressure vessel equipped with a stirrer.
A mixture of 1 part nitrogen and 2 parts acetylene is now injected up to a pressure of 20 atm and the whole is vigorously stirred at 90-120'C. The acetylene used is replenished by pressing until the pressure no longer decreases. The reaction material is freed from the catalyst by filtration and distilled.
First there is water and some unchanged formaldehyde. over, and finally at 2-3 mm Hg pressure and 120-125 ° C with 95% yield 1,4-butindiol is obtained, which solidifies in the original to a colorless crystal mass. Small amounts of propargyl alcohol are produced as a by-product.
The filtered copper catalyst can be used repeatedly. If necessary, 5 to 10 parts of basic magnesium carbonate can be added to a new batch. Similar results are obtained if the basic magnesium carbonate is replaced by zinc oxide, zinc carbonate, lead oxide, lead carbonates, alkali phosphates, alkali carbonates, alkali silicates.
<I> Example 5: </I> 40 parts of copper chloride and 40 parts of basic 1llagnesium carbonate are mixed with a solution of? Divide 'silver nitrate in 150 parts' of water and treat with acetylene at 70 C until the initially light yellow color has turned dark red-brown.
The paste thus obtained is applied to pumice stone and the whole thing is filled into a reaction tower. This is then filled with 30% formaldehyde solution and acetylene is introduced at 1f10 C under normal pressure. The unused acetylene escaping from the reaction tower is recycled back into the tower.
As soon as no more acetylene is absorbed, the liquid contents of the tower are drained off, filled again with fresh 30% formaldehyde solution, which has been neutralized by adding a small amount of magnesium carbonate, and new acetylene is introduced.
The solution saturated with acetylene gives 1,4-butynediol in good yield when worked up as in Example 4.
<I> Example 6: </I> 53 parts of 30% formaldehyde are mixed with 3-4 parts of a moist catalyst which was prepared in the following way: A solution of? Parts of crystallized cupric chloride in 100 parts of water are mixed with 4.5 parts of 20% strength aqueous ammonia. Acetylene is passed into the resulting solution for 15 minutes at room temperature with stirring. The cupriacetylide precipitate which has fallen out is filtered off and washed out.
The catalyst will now get wet. Put together with 0.7 parts calcium carbonate in the stainless steel pressure vessel in which the formaldehyde is located. A nitrogen-acetylene mixture is then injected in the manner described in Example 1. What is consumed: o Acetylene is replaced by injecting fresh acetylene.
In = 37 hours at 100-105 C, 5.8 parts by weight of acetylene are added. After the end of the reaction, the contents of the vessel are freed from the catalyst by filtration.
When the filtrate is distilled, 2 parts of propargyl alcohol and 1 part of 2-butyl-1,4-diol are obtained at 50-55 ° C. The yield is therefore 8 \? % Butynediol and 5% propargyl alcohol.
