Dispositif de commande pour frein pneumatique à dépression. La présente invention a pour objet un dis- positif de commande pour frein pneumati que à dépression qui est caractérisé en ce qu'il comporte un cylindre dans lequel est disposé un piston :soumis à une force,de rap pel et dont l'une des faces constitue une pa roi mobile d'une chambre qui est en com munication permanente avec au moins un frein commandé;
Control device for pneumatic vacuum brake. The present invention relates to a control device for a vacuum pneumatic brake which is characterized in that it comprises a cylinder in which is disposed a piston: subjected to a force, of which one of the elements is returned. faces constitutes a mobile pa king of a chamber which is in permanent communication with at least one controlled brake;
in that it comprises a control organ constantly urged to come into its rest position with respect to the piston, where it establishes a communication of the aforesaid chamber with the atmosphere, tan say that in the working position it cuts this communication and replaces it by a temporary connection with a vacuum source, the arrangement being such that, for a given displacement of the control member, the piston performs a stroke:
determined as a function of this displacement and bringing it into a position corresponding to a determined value of the vacuum in this chamber, said control member automatically returning to the rest position when it ceases to act on it, this which then restores atmospheric pressure in said chamber, so that the intensity of the braking depends,
the magnitude of the displacement of the control member and its duration, that during which one acts on this member.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, an embodiment of the control device forming the subject of the present invention.
Fig. 1 is an overall diagram of the device applied to a motor vehicle. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal-cut of the part generally designated by the reference number 2 of the device according to fis. 1.
A pipe .8 connects part 2, shown in detail on, the fis. 2,. To a suction pipe 11 of the engine of the vehicle.
A pipe 5 is connected, on the one hand, to the device 2 and, on the other hand, to the brake drums 27. It is in permanent communication with a pipe 6 connected to a cylinder 7, in which a piston moves. 8 commanding, through a rod, a butterfly 9 urged to stay in the. posi tion shown in the drawing by a spring 10. This butterfly is arranged in the. engine air intake manifold 11. When the piston is in the position shown, the butterfly leaves the pipe 11 open.
When a vacuum is created in line 5, as will be explained. further on, the piston 8 moves so as to close the butterfly 9, as shown in dotted lines.
Part 2 of the device, shown in axial section on the fi-. 2: comprises a cylinder 4, inside which moves a piston 20, provided at its. periphery of a crimped leather 21. One of the faces of this piston forms a movable wall of a chamber 25 which is in permanent communication, via the pipe 5, which is preferably flexible, with the brake drums 27. A spring 26, disposed in the chamber 25, exerts a restoring force on the piston 20 by urging the latter to come or to remain in a rest position.
The face of the piston opposite to that which was discussed previously constitutes a movable wall of a second chamber 1.9 of the cylinder 4, in permanent communication with the atmosphere through holes 18. The piston 20 is provided with a freely sliding rod. in that of the bottoms of -cylinder -1 which constitutes a wall of the chamber 19.
This rod has an annular recess 17 which extends over almost its entire length and opens onto the face of the piston facing the chamber 25. The annular recess 17 is permanently connected to the pipe 3.
The piston rod has, -in its central part, a cylindrical recess in which smooth neck a tube 16 having, at one of its ends, a head 23 provided with a seal 22. This head 23 is stressed. by a spring 24 to be applied on the opening of the annular recess 17.
The head 23 and its gasket 22 with the spring 24 therefore constitute a valve normally cutting off the communication between the recess 17 and the chamber 25. The opposite end of the tube: C # rUpa, slightly sse the corresponding end of the tube. piston rod.
In front of it is disposed a sealing member 13 fixed inside a hollow button 12, slidably mounted on the free end of the piston rod and urged by a res out 15 to remain in the position shown where the sealing member 13 is at a small distance from the end of the tube 16. A hole 1.4 puts the atmosphere in communication with the interior of the head of the button 12 and therefore with the interior of the tube 16 as the organ. etaneity 13 is not applied against this tube 16.
The interior of this tube communicates permanently with the chamber 25.
The operation of the device represented is as follows: The organs located in the. position indicated in the drawing, the. atmospheric pressure that reigns in the chamber 25 through the tube 16, the hole 14 and the slit for passing the tube 3. If we now press the button 12, we apply the or gane of seal 13 against the tube 16, which cuts the. communication between room 25 and the atmosphere.
At the same time, the tube 16 is moved to the right on the, fig. 2, which opens the valve \? 2. 23 by compressing the spring 24, so that the inside of the chamber? 5 is now connected, no longer with the atmosphere, but with the recess 17 and therefore with the pipe 3.
There is normally a certain vacuum in the pipe 3. due to the suction of the engine. When the valve 2 ?,? 3 is opened, a communication is established through the. chamber 25 between this pipe 3 and the pipe 5, so that this depression then extends to the pipe 6, which causes the aforementioned movement of the piston 8 and the. closing of the butterfly 9. Under the effect. From this closure, the negative pressure opens into line 3, so that a strong suction is exerted in the chamber 25, through the recess 17 and the line 3.
This negative pressure is transmitted to the brake drums 27, via line 5. As a result of this negative pressure .in chamber 25, the piston moves from left to right in FIG. 2. The spring 26 brakes and slows down this movement of the piston, moving away from its rest position. At a certain point in its stroke, depending on the point at which one stops advancing the button 12 to the right, the piston 20 itself comes to a stop.
In fact, for any position of the button 12, there will come a time when the displacement of the piston will be such that the valve 22, 23 will begin to close while the sealing member 1.3 is still applied against the end. tube 16.At this moment, the chamber 25 ceases to be in communication with the source of vacuum (that is to say the suction pipe 11 of the engine), so that the piston stops .
Communication with the atmosphere still being cut off by the sealing member 13, the piston: remains quite still. If the button 12 is now moved a little further in the braking direction, communication is reestablished: from chamber 25 to the vacuum source, the vacuum in chamber 25 increases, braking intensifies, piston moves further to the right in fig. 2 and reached a new equilibrium position.
When the button 12 is released, the latter returns to its rest position relative to the rod of the pis ton, under the action .du spring 15; it instantaneously puts the chamber 25 in communication with the atmosphere by the fact that the sealing member 13 leaves the tube 16. The braking ceases and the piston 20 is returned to its rest position by the spring 26.
It can be seen from the above that, for a given displacement, of the button 12, the piston 20 performs a determined stroke, depending on this displacement, which stroke brings this piston into a position corresponding to a determined value of the depression in chamber 25. The intensity of the braking therefore depends on the amount of movement of the button 12 and its duration on that during which this button is acted on.
It goes without saying that, instead of actuating the button 12 directly, it could be actuated by means of a return lever. This button 12 could - moreover also be replaced by an organ - constituting a pedal or a member intended to be actuated by a pedal.
It will be noted that all of what can be called the control member, that is to say the button 12, the sealing member 13, the tube 16 and the valve 22, 23, 24 is carried by the piston.
The device described makes it possible to brake the wheels of any vehicle having a vacuum braking system, without the use of any linkage, the only members connecting the vacuum source to the device and to the brake drums being formed by pipes, preferably flexible. This arrangement makes it possible to eliminate many problems and disturbances.
