Device for controlling a receiving device, applicable in particular to the braking of a vehicle. The present invention relates to a device for controlling a receiving device, applicable in particular to the braking of a vehicle, for example to the braking of motor vehicles.
This device is characterized in that it comprises a fluid motor, a part of which, movable, is connected to a control member on which one acts and which is itself connected to a distributor controlling the action of the fluid acting in this motor for controlling a controlled member acting on a receiving device, the whole being arranged so that said motor is controlled and the force exerted by it for controlling the receiving device, when acting on the control member order, either. partially transferred to the control member in the opposite direction to the force exerted on this member.
One embodiment of the device according to the invention is shown schematically, by way of example, in the accompanying drawing.
Fig. 1 schematically shows, in a perspective view, the device which constitutes, in this case, a vacuum brake booster for motor vehicles; Fig. 2 shows a longitudinal section of the distributor controlling the communications of the brake cylinder with the suction of the engine of the vehicle and with the atmosphere; Fig. 3 shows a side elevational view and partial section of the control of this distributor adapted to the usual brake pedal; Fig. 4 shows a similar view of the device mounted on the brake pad and connected to the piston of the brake cylinder.
The device shown has three main parts: 1 The cylinder 1 in which the piston 2 can move, which together constitute a fluid motor; 2 The distributor attached to the bottom of the cylinder 1 and which comprises: a bored body 3, an intake valve 4 guided in this body, and having a bulge 4a forming a piston, an air inlet valve 5 guided axially in the valve 4, a coil spring 21 interposed between the two valves, and two openings la, lb provided in the bottom of the cylinder, on either side of the piston 4a.
The intake valve 4 has a gasket 4b, preferably of leather or rubber, which comes to rest on a seat 3c of the body 3. On each side of the piston 4a, the body of the valve 4 leaves in the bore of the body 3 two annular spaces 3a and 3b.
This valve 4 controls the communication of the cylinder 1 with a source of pressure or suction not represented by the light 1a, the annular space 3a, the chamber 3d and the conduit 3e.
The valve 5, the rod 5a of which slides in the body of the valve 4, has a lining 5b, made of leather or rubber, which lining can come to rest on the upper edge 3f of the body 3.
When this valve 5 is moved away from the seat 3f, the cylinder 1 communicates with the atmosphere through the lumen 1b and the annular space 3b.
3 A Bowden cable control to actuate the distributor valves from then the pedal which operates the brake linkage. To achieve this control, the plate 6 of the pedal lever 19 is provided with a recessed projection 7 intended to receive an end of the sheath 8, practically incompressible of the Bowden cable. This plate 6 carries an axis 9 on which it pivots. with limited tilting, the false pedal 10. This is provided, at its upper part, with two projections 11 and 12.
The Bowden cable 13 is attached to the projection 11, and to the projection 12 is attached the cable 14 of the udder 2.
The other end of the sheath 8 is mounted directly on the re-entry valve 5 and the Bowden cable, passing freely in the valve 5, is fixed to the valve 4 controlling the communication of the cylinder with aspiration of the motor or with the. source of vacuum. The sole 16 of the false pedal is linked to the latter by means of a pin 15.
A tensioning device 17 is interposed in the sheath 8 so as to be able to adjust the operation of the valves.
The brakes are controlled, for example, by means of the rod 18 fixed to the lever of the pedal 19 mounted on the shaft 20 (fig. 1). Operation: When a push is exerted on the se melle 16, the false pedal 10 pivots around the axis 9 and the projection 11 moves to the right by exerting a traction on the Bowden cable 13 , and, as a result, a longitudinal compression of the sheath of the latter occurs, which has the effect of first closing the air intake valve 5. At this time, due to this compression, the sheath 8 supported on the air intake valve 5 which is placed on its seat.
The Bowden cable 13, continuing its movement to the right, opens the intake valve 4, which thus places the cylinder 1 in communication with the engine suction pipe. At this moment, the udder ton 2 moves to the left and, through the intermediary of the cable 14, drives the false pedal 10 at 12. If we want to maintain in the cylinder 1 a certain value of the de-pressure and, by Consequently, a certain degree of braking, the sole 16 is immobilized.
Therefore, as the intake valve is still open, the false pedal 10 will continue to move to the left, pivoting around the axis 15 which is kept im movable and this until the Bow- dent 13 cable has closed the inlet valve .1. Therefore, cylinder 1 will be isolated from the engine suction pipe and from the atmosphere. Consequently, the value of the depression prevailing in the brake cylinder will be maintained as long as no new thrust is exerted on the sole 16.
In the event that a slight leak would decrease the value of the depression. in cylinder 1, this leak would be compensated immediately by the automatic opening of the intake valve 4. Indeed , if the vacuum decreases in -cylinder 1, - piston 2 will return to the right, as will the projection 11. to which the Bowden cable is attached 13. This will therefore exert a traction on the intake valve 4 which will again put 'cylinder 1 in communication with the engine suction pipe. The depression prevailing inside cylinder 1 will resume its value originally obtained. The intake valve 4 will be closed again and the brakes held in a position corresponding to the position of the saddle 16.
If you want to brake more, you will exert a new thrust on the sole 16, the intake valve 4 will open again and the value of the vacuum will increase in cylinder 1 and. therefore also the braking force.
If it is desired to maintain the braking at another value, the sole 16 will be immobilized in another position and the effects mentioned above will be repeated.
To slightly release the brakes, the sole 16 will be allowed to return to the right. The projection 11 will move to the left and, via the Bowden cable 13, or will twist the air re-entry valve 5. The de-pressure will be reduced in cylinder 1 by a value corresponding to the position of the sole. 16 and, consequently, the braking force will decrease in proportion to the value of the vacuum. If we want to completely release the brakes, we will abandon the sole 16.
It can be seen, from the description above, that for each determined position of the sole 16 there corresponds a determined position of the brakes ti monerie, both in the direction of tightening and in the direction of release. The device described is therefore completely used.
The device described above is also established in such a way that the operation of the distributor requires an increasing force with the braking force produced in the servo motor. In fact, the false pedal 10 which controls the distributor is, at each determined position, in equilibrium under the following three forces: 1 At 15, the operator's force exerted to the left; 2 At 12, the force of the piston 2 which is exerted to the left; 3 In 9, the reaction of the brakes.
It is easy to see that if the value of the vacuum increases in cylinder 1, the force of piston 2 transmitted at 12 will also increase and, consequently, the force at 15, which must always be proportional to the force. applied in 12, should also increase.
Thanks to this reaction exerted against the effort of the operator, he realizes more exactly the braking force applied to the vehicle.
