Bicycle coaster brake. The main patent relates to a bicycle coaster brake, the braking force transmission device of which has a primary part, which is actuated directly by the crankshaft and built into the bottom bracket housing and which comes into operation when stepping back, which actuates one or more brake devices that are not designed as hub brakes through transmission organs.
With this coaster brake, the drawback has been shown that after the brakes are applied, pedaling forward is made more difficult by braking the wheel. was impossible, so that it was no longer possible to release the brakes without further ado.
According to the present additional invention, this inconvenience is to be remedied by the fact that the chain wheel arranged on the crankshaft is arranged to be pivotable with respect to the crankshaft and can be locked when braking by a locking device, so that the cranks with respect to the sprocket after braking can be pivoted backwards and forwards after braking to release the braking devices.
In the accompanying drawing, an embodiment of the subject invention is shown.
Fig. 1 shows a view with a partial section of the coaster brake, Fig. 2 shows a section through the chain wheel with a view of adjacent parts, and Fig. 3 shows a section along AA in Fig. 2. In the illustrated coaster brake, the coaster actuation mechanism mounted in the pedal crank bearing housing 1 is accurate the same as in the example of FIGS. 3 and 4 of the main patent. The primary part actuated by the crankshaft 2 is designed as a clamping lock which can be moved out by means of a sliding ring 24 and an arm 24a.
The Bowden cable 16 engaging the clamping ring 20 of the locking mechanism is connected to the rim brake 25 in such a way that the brake 25 comes into operation when the pedal cranks 3 step back.
A pawl 26 is provided on a lever arm of the rim brake 25, which pawl cooperates with a ring-shaped locking toothing 27 on the chain wheel 4. The chain wheel 4 is arranged pivotably on the crankshaft 2 and has three circular segment-shaped slots 28 offset by 120 to one another. Furthermore, the pedal crank 3 is designed with three arms in that it has two shorter arms 29 in addition to the main arm. A driver pin 30 is attached to each of the three arms and engages in a slot 28 each. The hub of the chain wheel 4 has a circular recess 31 in which a spiral spring 32 is arranged, which acts on the chain wheel 4 at one end and on the crankshaft 2 at the other end.
At the rim brake 25 shown in Fig. 1, the brake shoes 33 are adjustable by means of a toothing 34 and screws 35 attached to the brake levers in order to be able to provide them with wear of the brake lining.
Upon actuation of the rear brake shown, the Bowden cable 16 is tightened by stepping back on the cranks, whereby the rim brake 25 comes into operation. Here, the pawl 26 engages in the toothing 27 of the chain wheel 4, where the latter is determined. The pedal cranks 3 can be stepped back further to apply the brakes again, with the drive pins 30 moving into the slot 28. To release the brake, the cranks are stepped forward, the bolts 30 moving in opposite directions in the slots 28 until they hit the end of the slot, whereupon the chain wheel 4 is taken along again.
If the back-pedal mechanism is switched off by moving the arm 24a, the brake is not applied when pedaling backwards and the chain wheel 4 is not held by the pawl. Ausserden ver remain the driving pin 30 in the end bearings is provided in the slots 28, since the coil spring 32 pushes them into these positions.
Instead of the chain wheel having three slots 28 as shown and the crank 3 having three driver pins 30, only one or two slots and one or two driver pins or even more than three slots and more than three pins could be present.
