Installation for giving light signals to the rear of a cycle or a motorcycle. The subject of the invention is an installation for giving light signals to the rear of a cycle or a motorcycle.
This installation is arranged so as to give an intermittent light signal, at least when starting to apply the brake of the cycle or the motorcycle.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, one embodiment.
The trusted. 1 is a front view thereof, with part in section, showing the installation in place on a cycle, the mudguard of which is sup posed in longitudinal section.
The trusted. 2 is a side sectional view of the switch device.
It is understood that all usual insulation measures are taken.
A roller 1, the axis 2 of which rotates in bearings 3, 4, is rotated by friction against the rear wheel 5 of the cycle. The bearings 3, 4 are fixed to a part 6 of insulating material, contained in a housing 7 carried by an arm 8 of a support fixed to one of the two tubes 9 of the frame of the cycle which end towards the axis of the wheel 5. The housing 7 carries an axis 10 which can rotate in a bearing of the arm 8, a spring 11 always tending to keep the roller 1 applied against the wheel 5.
A plug 12 of insulating material, fixed to the casing, is crossed by the axis 2 ,. Terminal 15 carried by an insulating plug 22 closing the casing 7, is connected by a conductor 16 to one of the poles of an electric lamp (not shown) fixed to the descending part of the mudguard 18 of the rear wheel, the another pole of this lamp being connected by a conductor 20 to one of the poles of a dry cell 19 carried by the cycle frame, and to the other pole from which a conductor 21 ends.
The other end of the latter, not seen in the drawing, ends in the vicinity of the handlebars of the cycle at a terminal carried by an insulating part fixed to said handlebars, and in such a way that from the start of the clamping movement of the brake lever it a contact is established putting said terminal to the ground of the cycle; contact is readily established by any known spring arrangement, establishing and maintaining contact without interfering with the clamping movement, contact broken as soon as the full clamping movement is made. The contact is open as long as the brake is released.
The terminal 15 is connected by means of the conductor 13 and a connection screw 14 to a spring contact 24 carried by the insulating block 23. This contact 24 is pressed against the edge of the disc 25 mounted so as to be able to rotate on the part 6 and rotated by the roller 1, by means of a worm control 26, 27. This disc 25 of insulating material, carries a metal sector 28. This mains is electrically connected to the cycle ground. It follows that the circuit of the lamp is interrupted and restored alternately by the sector 28, so that as soon as the brake is applied, the lamp lights up and goes out successively.
A small dry cell battery is sufficient, the lamp only works when the brake is applied, but another power source could be used.
The embodiment described could be modified. One could, for example, constitute the support of the disc and of the worm control, by two blocks of bakelite joining along the plane AA and each carrying half of the two bearings 3, 4, blocks held in position by pins of one penetrating into cavities of the other; titi collar integral with the arm 8 would surround them and fix them.
