Appareil respiratoire.
fixe le maximum de la quantité d'air qui peut être débitée nor malement, l'action de ce dispositif d'interdic tion pouvant être diminuée ou même annulée en cas de besoin par une manoeuvre volontaire du porteur de l'appareil;
Respiratory. The present invention relates to a respiratory apparatus comprising a mask and a filtering mass, and characterized in that a blower driven by a motive force foreign to the muscles ensuring the breathing of the wearer is interposed in the suction duct of the patient. mask, so as to help the air flow through the filter mass.
The muscular respiratory effort, normally imperceptible, becomes in fact noticeable when breathing is carried out either through a filtering mass, as in the case of devices used for protection against gases, or more generally in a capacity. any one communicating with the atmosphere, or another source of air or oxygen, etc., only through more or less large resistances.
The apparatus described makes it possible to create, as long as the blower is in operation, the breathing capacity under the mask and to provide the body, without painful effort on the part of the wearer, the necessary quantity of air or other. breathable gas.
The blower can be powered by any power source, electric battery, accumulator, clock movement, etc., or even human force, provided that it is not demanded from the tho racic cage of the wearer. apparatus.
The drawing shows, by way of example, an embodiment of the apparatus according to the invention and a variant.
Fig. 1 is an overall view of an apparatus according to the invention, the part of the apparatus containing the blower being in section.
Fig. 2 indicates a variant, part in elevation, part in .Cut.
According to fig. 1, year has interposed between the filter cartridge 1 and the mask 2, by means of screwed metal fittings having the approved pitch, a sealed box 3 containing an electric motor 4 of low power, activating a small fan, shown in schematic form a reel 5; this ventilator supplies the purified air under a low pressure which ensures the desired respiratory ease.
Between the box 3 and the mask 2 is interposed an impermeable reservoir comprising flexible pipes 6 and 7 and an expandable bag 8, of sufficient capacity to avoid any interruption in the supply to the lungs.
An adjustment device allows the fan speed to be varied; in the case where the latter is actuated by a portable electric power source, this adjustment device can be constituted by a rheostat 10 (fig. 1) or by electrical coupling devices allowing the production of a range of vi tesses.
The energy source is represented here by a battery 11 connected to the motor by the intermediary of the rheostat 10 and of plugs 12 sealed to the passage of air and of a plug socket 13 making it possible to change ins- the battery without dismantling the device and if necessary when it is in service.
A transport bag (not shown) makes it possible to house and hold together during service the various components of the apparatus.
The device is designed in such a way that direct aspiration can be done without more resistance, when the blower is not in operation, than if the blower was not inserted in the respiratory circuit.
The battery 11, preferably a dry battery, can be of sufficient capacity to ensure the operation of the apparatus for a period in relation to that of the filtering devices.
The blower can also be put, either in the direct circuit as indicated on the wire. 1, but bypassing this circuit as shown in fig. 2. In this case, a valve 14, which lifts under the effect of natural inspiration, prevents any return of the air discharged during use (the device. In the example shown, the motor-fan system is placed inside the mask suction circuit itself, preferably downstream of the filter cartridge.
The presence of the device does not then bring any risk of leakage and, moreover, the motor is cooled by the passage of the air whose flow it provides, so that the device can operate without interruption for several consecutive hours; this design of the device also makes it possible to reduce the weight to a minimum, a necessary condition when it comes to a portable device.
The assembly can be used efficiently even if the engine is not operating.
It may be necessary to provide this device with a flow limiter. Although the purified air supplied by the device cannot but constitute an annoyance or a danger even if it is discharged in excess (since this excess is evacuated by the exhalation valve of the masks) it is important, however, that 'a certain limit is brought to the flow, so as not to cause too rapid saturation of the filter pad.
To this end, the device can be fitted either with an indication device (for example a cleat, ca-an or other means preventing the wide opening of the flow rate variation rheostat unless there is a special maneuver. performed by the wearer of the device), or of a prohibition device, such as, for example, a calibrated diaphragm which, given the low discharge pressure of which the fan is capable,
sets the maximum amount of air that can be delivered normally, the action of this prohibition device being able to be reduced or even canceled if necessary by a voluntary operation by the wearer of the device;
or finally a positive balancing device (such as, for example, a valve with return duct) which automatically reduces the. quantity of air delivered by the fan when it exceeds the maximum prescribed (the fan then only has the difference between the flow rate corresponding to its operating speed and the flow rate of the return circuit through the filter cartridge ).
It is also possible to envisage an embodiment of the apparatus in which, instead of a continuous variation of speed by means of a rheostat, one is satisfied with a range of speeds, for example two or three different speeds. achievable using a mobile plug or a control button with several positions corresponding to different paths of the electric current in the motor, or the use of batteries, which can be used at will in parallel or in series, by means of a suitable coupling.
In the embodiment shown, the apparatus is mounted in the suction circuit of a portable mask; it is with a view to this use that the device is provided with threaded connections having the approved international pitch, and with a bag allowing transport (bag which can be simply a pocket containing the battery with a fastening device s (adapting to the regulatory bag for masks, the casing containing the motor and the fan that can be housed in the same bag, either for transport or during protection).
The device can be adapted, by fixing brackets or any other means, to cradles and cars, used to save young children during their evacuation or their stay in leaky shelters.
It should be noted that the use of an autonomous source of electrical energy such as it is constituted by the battery actuating the motor, perfectly resolves the problem, in particular during transport or in the event of breakdown or destruction of the sector.
Similar uses can be provided for the protection of sick or wounded lying down.
It should be noted that the device is not only an auxiliary to existing protective devices, but that it could possibly be used to transform makeshift devices, such as incompletely waterproof masks or masks, into effective protection devices. dimensions not adapted to those of the head of the wearers of these masks (for example in the event of distribution of masks for adults to children).
In fact, the slight overpressure produced around the respiratory openings would in this case cause a continuous outlet of air, purified by accidental sealing defects, and would prevent any passage, in the opposite direction, of outside air.
