Ignition heart. The subject of the invention is a spark plug for internal combustion engines, in particular for motor vehicle engines. The purpose of the invention is to increase the ignition power. As is well known, the spark plugs have to work under very different conditions. These are different when the engine is cold and different when the engine is hot. With battery ignition, the ignition voltage decreases with increasing engine speed, with magneto ignition it increases.
To improve the ignition performance at low voltages, spark plugs with so-called creep sparks have been proposed stretch, z. B. candles in which the end of the central electrode does not or only slightly protrudes over the surface of the insulating body embedding the electrode. The spark develops along the surface and only then skips the air gap, which is generally smaller than with normal spark plugs.
It has been shown that: with this device, the entire sieve made up of the spark path and the free spark path can be made longer than if there is only one free spark path between the two electrodes.
It has now been found that the ignition spark tends to detach itself from the creepage distance of the insulator surface as the voltage increases and to jump over to the ground electrode in free space.
If the free end of the ground electrode is now, as usual, in the same plane as the insulator face, the ignition spark must jump over in an arc when it lifts off, thereby lengthening its path, which again impairs the powerful spark generation .
The invention is based on the principle of providing the ignition spark for every voltage. The most favorable conditions and consists in the ground electrode rising the end face of the insulating body radially and against the axis of the central electrode]. overlaps, in such a way that the
