Mixer tap. The devices known to date for allowing the mixing of two fluids, such as, for example, hot water and cold water, are generally bulky because they include several valves which must be operated separately, or else they are @ of complicated construction, and therefore expensive.
The object of the present invention is a mixing valve, characterized in that it comprises a body provided with a flow pipe as well as two supply pipes, a shutter member controlling the passage to the pipe. flow and another, common to the two end tubes, placed opposite their openings closing in the body of the valve and con formed in such a way that, in two different positions:
, it closes one and opens the other, while in intermediate positions it allows the passage of two fluids towards the flow pipe, in pro portions depending on its position.
The appended drawing shows, by way of example, an embodiment @du mixing valve forming the subject of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a longitudinal section through the line II-II -de, FIG. 2; fig. 2 in -is a section along the line I-I of FIG. 1.
The mixer valve shown has a body. hollow 10 of cylindrical shape which has, in its lower part, a flow pipe 11 and, in its upper part, two inlet pipes 12 and 13.
Near the openings of the tubes 12 and 13 are provided two stops 14 and 15 each extending only over a part of the circumference of the body 10 and leaving free two passages 12a and 13c towards the flow tube. A circular shoulder 16 'is provided opposite the flow pipe 11 to serve as a seat for a shutter or gane 17 secured to a rod 18 disposed axially in. body 10.
On the stops 14 and 15 rests a washer 19 integral with a bush 20 having internally an internal thread in engagement with a threaded part of the rod 18, so that, when the washer is held in position against the stops 14 and 15 after assembly of the various parts. constituting the valve, by rotating the rod around its axis, it is moved longitudinally, which opens or closes the central opening of the shoulder 16.
The washer 19 comprises, opposite each opening of the two pipes 12 and 13, a notch 12b, respectively 13b, to leave a free passage to the flow pipe 11.
In the part of the body 10 into which the pipes 1.2 and 13 open, a cylindrical part 21 is housed, the diameter of which corresponds exactly to that of the inner face of the body of the valve at this location.
This part 21 constitutes a shutter member of the two aforementioned tubes and comprises two in peripheral sizes 22 and 23 extending over its entire length and spaced so that, when one of them is placed opposite the opening d one of the tubes 12 or 13, the other is located opposite the solid part of the wall of the body 10 situated between the blocked openings of these two tubes.
On the other hand, between two extreme angular positions, the shutter 21 leaves the openings of the two tubes 12 and 13 partially open.
Upwards, the shutter 21 is extended by a sleeve 24 fitted on the rod 18. It is held in position in the body 10 by a gland 25 surrounding the sleeve 24 and screwed on. inside the body 10. The rod 18 is itself surrounded by a gland housed in the. upper part of the sleeve 24. The upper end of the sleeve 24 has a diametrical notch 31.
The end of the body 10 carries a cap 26 screwed onto it and the end of which freely rotates a ring 27 integral with a bush 28 surrounding the rod 18 and extending inwardly. This bush 28 carries radial teeth 32 at its end, intended to penetrate into the notches 31 of the bush 24.
The ring 27 comprises a lever for my work 29 and the rod 18 has at its end an ordinary operating handle 30. The central part of the shutter 21 has a bore 36 of sufficient diameter to allow the rod 18 to pass through. with a conical part 34 which it presents.
Between the conical part 34 and the washer 19 is placed, on the rod 18, a washer, for example of rubber 35 or a split metal ring, dimensioned so as to come into contact with the conical part 34 at the end of the stroke. closing the valve, as shown in fig. 1. of the drawing. In this position, the cone 34 crushes the washer 35 when it is rubber or expands it when it consists of a split ring.
in such a way that the shutter 21 is entrained by friction by the rotation of the rod 18 in one of its extreme positions. The purpose of this is to prevent the shutter 21 from remaining, after closing the valve, in an intermediate position. This would allow, in the event of a pressure difference between the hot water pipe and the cold water pipe, the delivery of the ani in the pipe at lower pressure.
The operation of the valve shown is as follows, assuming that it is a hot and cold water mixer: When the shutter 17 is on its seat, as shown in. fig. 1, no liquid can flow through the tubing 11.
If, by means of the handle 30, the flow opening is released and, for example, the shutter 21 is in the position shown in FIG. 2, it allows, for example, cold water to flow, arriving via the tube 12, since the notch 22 is located opposite the opening of this tube and coincides with the passages 12a between the stops 14 and 15 and 12b of the, washer 19. We see. that then the tubing 13 of hot water is. iron mée, the notch 23 being opposite the. full body part 10.
It is however clear that if one moves angularly, by the, handle 29, the shutter 21 in the direction of -windows of a watch, one partially closes the pipe 12 and one simultaneously opens partially the tube 13 since the notch 23 is placed opposite its opening.
The hot water and the cold water coming from the two pipes 12 and 13 can then mix in the body. 10 before flowing through the pipe 11 and the proportion of the mixture is regulated by the position of the lever 29 controlling the shutter 21.
By closing the valve, the shutter 21 is brought, as described above, into one of its extreme positions, by the action of the conical part 34 of the rod on the washer 35 and, at the same time, the The shutter is locked in this position by axial thrust on the rod 18 caused by the elasticity of the shutter or gane 17 which may be, for example, rubber.
It is clear that the shutter 21 can also be brought to a position in which the two pipes 12 and 13 are closed simultaneously. In practice, however, a stop 33 is provided which limits the angular displacements of this member to the two extreme positions, one of which is shown in FIG. 2.
It is of course possible to use the tap described for mixing fluids other than hot water and cold water, for example gases. Depending on the purpose for which it is intended, the shape of the valve body can change without its characteristics being modified for this. Thus, for example, a faucet intended to be fixed against a wall will be given a shape different from that of a faucet intended to be fixed to a washbasin or a bathtub, or even combined with a shower.
Marks indicating at least the extreme positions of the control lever 29 can be provided externally on the body of the valve.
