Process for the manufacture of a dispensing agent. It has been found that aliphatic-aromatic compounds containing an imido group with a long carbon chain and having several sulfo groups can be obtained by esterifying condensation products of amino alcohols and fatty acids with mono- or polycyplic aromatic compounds with a substituent in the nucleus fertilize,
which contain at least two sulfo groups, and subsequent sulionation until they are soluble in water.
In order to preserve such polysulfonated compounds, one does not proceed from fatty acids with free carboxyl groups, but rather from their glycerides. The condensation of the amino alcohol with the fatty acids is therefore expediently carried out by amidation in the form of their glycerides in the presence of a catalyst which favors the reaction, such as. B. sulfuric acid, the reaction mass being heated to temperatures above 120 <B> 'C </B>.
The product obtained in this reaction still contains the glycerol released during the condensation of the fatty acid glycerides with the amino alcohol.
The esterification of the amide thus obtained with the compound having the substituted aromatic nucleus, which contains at least two free sulfo groups, follows this condensation, and finally the molecule is enlarged by introducing a further sulfo group by means of sulfuric acid monohydrate.
The products thus obtained can be represented by the following general formula
EMI0001.0032
where R, and R, represent aliphatic radicals and <B> R '</B> represent an aromatic radical. The end sulionation that takes place in the aliphatic radical is not taken into account here.
This final sulfonation is very important because it gives the very complex molecule practically sufficient stability against strong acids.
The subject of the present patent is a process for the production of a dispersant which is characterized in that a cresol monosulfonic acid mixture which is obtainable by heating a technical mixture of the three isomeric cresols with the same weight of sulfuric acid of <B > 66 '</B> B # to <B> 80' C,
</B> Naphthalene-3,5-disulfonic acid and the amidation product of a fatty acid mixture, as can be obtained by treating a mixture of <B> 1 </B> each part of olive oil and spermacetic oil and two parts of palm oil with monoethanolamine, condensed with each other in a molecular proportion and then sulfonated until they are water-soluble.
<I> Example: </I> The following substances are produced separately: <B> 1. </B> Cresol monosulfonic acid by treating <B> 108 </B> parts of a technical mixture of the three isomeric cresols with <B > 108 </B> parts of sulfuric acid of <B> 66 '</B> B6 at <B> 80' C </B> for one hour; 2. Naphthalene-3. 5-disulfonic acid by treating <B> 108 </B> parts of naphthalene with <B> 256 </B> parts of sulfuric acid from <B> 66 '</B> B6 at <B> 60 </B> to < B> 70 ° C, the reaction being initiated by adding a small amount of absolute alcohol.
After 11/2 hours, <B> 350 </B> parts of 20 to <B> 23% </B> oleum are added, taking care that the reaction temperature is <B> 60.degree. C. </B> does not exceed. The duration of the reaction is about 1/2 hour; <B> 3. </B> An amidation product that is produced by reacting <B> 500 </B> parts of a mixture of one part olive oil, two parts palm oil and one part spermaceti oil, with <B> 150 </B> parts Monoethanol is obtained in the presence of <B> 10 </B> parts of sulfuric acid monohydrate at <B> 125 </B> C, the reaction time being several hours.
These three products are then combined in such a way that the latter is added in portions to a mixture of the two former while stirring. After 11/2 hours at <B> 25 'C </B> the reaction has ended. This is then followed by the further sulfonation.
All these reactions, in particular the sulfonations, are continued until the product has become completely soluble in water. After the final sulfonation, 80 to 85 parts of ice are added and the meager portion is neutralized with alkali while stirring constantly.
This gives a white paste which can be converted into powder form by drying in vacuo. The end product is particularly suitable for washing raw wool, woolen yarn and woolen goods, and its dispersing properties also make it extremely valuable as a leveling agent in dyeing practice. In addition, the softening properties of the product make it suitable for giving textiles of animal or vegetable origin a remarkably soft and good feel.
The product can be used as a plasticizer, dispersant, cleaning agent, emulsifier, etc. in the textile, leather, fur industry, and also in paper manufacture, as well as in the manufacture of cosmetic and pharmaceutical products.
