Process for the production of a pebble dye of the Anthraquinone Acridona series. It is known that vat dyes are obtained by introducing radicals, for example benzoyl groups, into the amino group of 4-amino-1,2-arithra- quinonacridones. They are dull and not very real. Even dyes which, with an otherwise analogous constitution, still contain halogen atoms in the Bz 3- and -5 positions, do not yet meet the highest requirements for fastness to boiling.
It has now been found that 4-aroylaminoanthraquinone - Bz - 6'-halobenzene acridone are clear, no-blue high-quality dyes with excellent fastness properties, namely very good fastness to boiling. The present invention relates to the processes leading to the formation of the above-mentioned dyes.
The same consist in that 4-aminoanthraquinone-1. 2'-pheriylamino-6'-halo-1'-carboxylic acids or their functional derivatives, possibly in the form of their 3-sulfonic acids, closes the acridone ring and aroylates the 4-amino group before or after the ring closure. The ring closure can occur, for example, from the acid with elimination of water
respectively be carried out via the acid chloride using aluminum chloride or via the ester by coupling. The aroylation is expediently carried out in a suitable solvent, for example in nitrobenzene, in the heat.
The aroylating agents used are, for example, the chlorides of benzoic acid and its derivatives, such as, for example, halobenzoic acids or alkoxybenzoic acids, and also the chlorides of naphthoic acids, diphenylcarboxylic acid or even cyanuric chloride. The dyes form blue-violet crystal powders, they are more or less easily soluble in high-boiling organic solvents with a deep blue color and crystallize in violet needles on cooling.
They dissolve in concentrated sulfuric acid with a red-orange color. In an alkaline hydrosulphite solution, they provide a purple vat from which the vegetable fibers are dyed in rich, pure blue, chlorine- and boil-proof shades after oxidation.
The present patent is now a process for the production of a vat dye of the anthraquinone acridone series, which consists in that 4-Amirro-3-sulfo-1- (6'-chloro -1'-carboxy-2'-anilido) -anthraquinone , an agent which causes the acridon ring closure, and p-chlorobenzoyl chloride interact.
It is practical to work in such a way that the acridone ring closure is first effected and then p-chlorobenzoyl chloride is allowed to act. The dye obtained in this way represents violet needles. It stains the vegetable fibers on the red-violet vat in lively blue tones.
Example: 80 parts by weight of 2-anrino-6-chlorobenzoic acid are dissolved in 2000 parts by weight of 80 parts of water using 40 parts by weight of 33% sodium hydroxide solution. The solution is 85 parts by weight of 1-bromo-4-amino. Anthraquinone-3-sulfonic acid potassium, 40 parts by weight of sodium acetate and 6 parts by weight of copper chloride added. The whole thing is heated to 801) for 5 hours while stirring well.
It is then filtered and the resulting blue reaction product is salted out. The deposited sodium salt of 4-amino-3-sulfo -1- (6'-chloro-1'-carboxy-2'-anilido) -anthrachinons of the formula below

is dissolved in hot water and the filtered solution is precipitated by dilute hydrochloric acid. The precipitated acid becomes crystalline after prolonged stirring. It is sucked off, washed out with dilute hydrochloric acid and dried.
To convert into the acridone, 20 parts by weight of the dry acid are dissolved in 300 parts by weight of sulfuric acid monohydrate. The deep blue solution is heated to 800 , turning it orange-red. At the same time the sulphonic acid group is split off with the addition of the liquid. The mixture is heated for a further 1/2 hour, then added to water, the blue dye is filtered off with suction, washed with hot water with the addition of a little alkali, then thoroughly with hot water and dried.
The aminoacridone colors, the fibers from the brown-red vat give a greenish blue color.
For aroylation, 20 parts by weight of the finely powdered dye with 9 parts by weight of p-chlorobenzoylchloride in 500 parts by weight of nitrobenzene are heated to the boil, the dye being dissolved in blue color. On cooling, the aroylated dye separates out in purple needles. It dyes the fiber from the red-violet vat vividly blue. The dyeings have very good fastness to chlorine and boiling.
