Advertising timepiece. The object of the present invention is an advertisement timepiece. The latter is characterized by a main motor, by a periodic engagement mechanism keeping this motor stopped for a given period of time and releasing it for an instant at the end of this period, by an auxiliary mainspring wound up by the motor. main when the latter is released and actuating a cam device which, at the end of this period of time, triggers the engagement mechanism to release the main motor; a time indicating device and an advertising device being both connected to the main engine and actuated by the latter when released.
The accompanying drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the present invention.
Figs. 1 and 2 are two elevation views from the outside and 90 from each other. Figs. 3 and 4 are two elevations 90 from each other of the inner mechanism. Fig. 5 is a top plan. Figs. 6 to 11 show details.
The timepiece shown com takes a cabinet 1 on the front face of which the dial 2 is arranged and which has, on this face and below the dial, a rectangular window 3; behind it is placed a rotating drum 4, on the axis 5 of which are articulated supports 6 each carrying an advertisement. Under the action of the movement kept in the cabinet, the drum advances a fraction of a turn at determined intervals, every half-minute for example, so that the support which presented its front in the top of the window, where it was held by the spring 6a, falls, making room for the next support and coming to occupy the interior part of the window where it presents its back.
The movement housed inside the box includes a double motor barrel 7 of the kind commonly used in gramophones. This barrel is wound up by the axis 8 carrying, on the one hand, a retaining ratchet 9 which cooperates with the pawl 10 and, on the other hand, a winding pinion II which meshes with the toothed crown 12 fixed to the barrel . A the other end, the axis of the latter has a toothed wheel 13 which meshes, by the wheels 14 and 15, with a pinion 16 fixed on the axis 17. The latter has , there one end. a wheel 18 connected, by a chain 19, with a wheel 20 fixed to the axis of the drum 4.
At its other end, this. axis 17 carries an angle wheel 21 meshing with an angle pinion 22 (fig. 4) fixed on an axis 23. This carries a helical wheel 24, in mesh with the worm 2.5 of the force regulator centrifugal 26 (fig. 4 and 5), of the kind usually employed in gramophones and provided with a braking plate 27. on which the brake 28 can act, of which the action on the plate is adjusted using screw 29.
Axis 23 carries. moreover, at its end, the. toothed wheel 30 acting on the pinion 31, which has a single pin 32; each turn of the pinion 31, this pin moves the wheel 33, on which the jumper 34 acts, by one tooth; this wheel carries an axle on which the 35 minute hand is fixed.
The pinion 16 fixed on the axis 17 also meshes (see Figs. 6 and 7) with a wheel 36 fixed on an axis 37 and which is the first mobile of a clockwork movement. ba lancer. This movement also comprises a plate 38 (FIG. 6) mounted on a square 39 of the axis 37 and applied by a spring 40 against a bearing surface 41 of this axis. This plate 38 carries a pin 42 passing through a groove 43 of the barrel 44. The latter contains an auxiliary motor spring 45 fixed by one end to the barrel and by the other to. axis 37. The barrel is extended by a barrel por as the toothed wheel 46 which meshes with the pinion 47. The latter carries on its axis a cam 48 and ends with a toothed wheel 49, which controls the. wheel of an escapement 50 acting on the balance 51.
The main motor constituted by the double barrel 7 is kept stopped for a determined period of time, for example half a minute, by a locking mechanism. which will be described in detail later; then, at the end of this lapse of time, it is released for a moment by the above-described clockwork movement, acting, by the cam 48 on the engagement mechanism. When the motor 7 is released, it rotates by one tooth, the wheel 33 which has one hundred, twenty teeth and which thus makes one complete revolution in one hour.
It also drives drum 4 and does so. advance by a sufficient fraction to allow the advertisement to be changed. Finally, he does. turn the axis 37; the plate 38 rotates with this until its pin 42 comes to occupy the right end of the groove 43 (fig. 7). In addition. the spring 45 which has a slight initial tension is fully wound up and causes the barrel to turn and everything to work. movement. As the barrel 44 rotates, the pin 42 which is stationary tends to resume its position at. the left end of groove 43. It doesn't quite have it yet. reached.
when half a minute has elapsed. and that the cam 48 acting on the latching mechanism releases the main motor again. If, for some reason, the cam 48 does not act. the pin 42 then coming into contact with the left end of the groove 43 would prevent the spring 45 from fully relaxing.
The aforementioned engagement mechanism comprises (see Figures 5 and 8 to. 11) a lever 52 pivoted at 53 and which a spring 54 constantly tends to bring into the engagement position. In this position. a lever chi nose 55 is engaged with a pin of a series of equidistant pegs 56 carried by the brake plate 27 and thus stops the main motor.
In this position. a bevelled heel 57 (fig. 3) of the same lever rests in one of the holes of a series of equidistant holes 58 (fig. 4) made on one of the faces of the wheel 21 (see also fig. 11 which is a cut through said wheel).
The cam 48 'of the clockwork movement comprises a spiral part 48a, the two ends of which are joined by a radial flat part 48b; she cooperates with. the finger 59 carried by a sleeve 60 which can rotate around the lever 52 under the action of a spring 61 wound around this lever. This rotation would have the effect of moving the finger 59 away from the cam 48, if this finger were not held in place by a flange 62 located above the cam - and which follows the latter over the greater part of its perimeter and away from it following a helix on the rest of the perimeter.
Fig. 8 shows the different parts as the half-minute period is about to end. At this moment, the cam 48 has pushed the lever 52 against the spring 54 by an amount sufficient for the nose 55 of this lever to move away from the corresponding pin 56 and the released motor starts to turn. ; at this precise moment, the heel 57 of the lever 52 occupies the position shown in dotted lines in FIG. 11 and the wheel 21 which is under tension acts on the inclined plane terminating the bead 57 and pushes it completely out of the hole 58.
On the other hand, the pin 59 moves away from the cam 48 and from the flat part of the flange 62 and the spring 61 rotates the sleeve 60, this movement being limited by a screw 63 fixed to the lever and acting on a flat part. 64 of the socket. As soon as the motor has been released, the wheel 21 has started to rotate and a new hole 58 appears in front of the heel 57 which, under the influence of the spring 54, enters this hole. The nose 55 engages again with a pin 56 and the engine is stopped. At the same time, the pin 59 approaches the cam 48 and engages (see Fig. 10) under the helical part of the flange 62; the rotation of this rim will bring the finger 59 after a moment under the flat part of the rim in contact with the cam 48.
It is not possible to determine with great precision the point of the cam 48 corresponding to the moment when the heel 57 begins to come out of the hole 58 (dotted position in FIG. 11). If this point is quite far from the flat part 48b of the cam, it could be, if the sleeve 60 and the flange 62 did not exist, that the pin 59 returns to take its place on the cam 48, the main motor could not not .stopping before the face 48b has passed in front of the ankle, which would compromise the operation.
