Process for the production of steam by means of a steam generator and for the control thereof, and steam generator for carrying out this process. The invention comprises a process for the production of steam by means of a steam generator and for the control thereof, as well as a steam generator for carrying out this process.
The steam generator that the present invention comprises is of the type without cylindrical body and with forced circulation. It advantageously comprises, as will be the case for the embodiments described below, a circuit for the circulating fluid, formed of one or more tubes of large length and of small internal diameter, in which the circulation is caused by the entry of the liquid under pressure by one of the ends and by the exit of the vapor only, by the other, the quantity of liquid introduced being normally greater than that of the vapor which leaves and the difference between these quantities being taken from the circuit cooked between its ends.
According to the invention, the process for the production of steam by means of a steam generator and for the control of this generator which is of the type without cylindrical body and with forced circulation comprising a separator placed between the production sections and of superheating of the steam of the circuit for the circulating fluid, is characterized in that the variable factors in the operation of the steam generator are gradually and successively controlled, as a function of the height of the level of the liquid in the separator .
The generator which the invention comprises, for the implementation of the above method, is of the type without cylindrical body and with forced circulation, and it is characterized in that it comprises a separator interposed between the production sections. and overheating of the steam in the circuit for the circulating fluid,
means operating under the action of the height of the water level in the separator and a certain number of means for individually adjusting the variable factors in the operation of the steam generator and successively controlled by the first means at as he progressively displaces the height said water level in the separator.
The accompanying drawing represents, by way of example and schematically. two embodiments of the steam generator due comprises the invention.
The, fi-. 1 represents sebema, tickly la. first execution time of the generator: fig. ? schematically represents the second embodiment of the generator: la, fi-. 3 is a vertical section of a pilot valve: fi-. 4. 5 and 6 are variants (details, on a larger scale:
the fi- 7. 8 and 9 are graphs showing the operation. different embodiments of the generator; the fi-. 10 is a detail of a third embodiment of the generator.
In the generator shown in FIG. 1, the circuit for the circulating fluid is, shown in the form of a single coil tube, one section of which. economizer component 202. is supplied with liquid under pressure by a pipe, 11 coming from a pump 289, which may be of any suitable type and which, therefore, has been shown under purely schematic form.
Leaving the economizer section, the fluid arrives in a section 302 for the production of. vapor and passes through it, then discharges into a separator 232. On leaving the separator. the steam enters a superheater 242 and passes through it leaving it by a pipe 244 to arrive at a main turbine 12, taken as an example of a steam consuming apparatus.
The combustion products pass successively through the steam production section. the over-driver and the economizer and may come into contact with part or all of said separator. An auxiliary turbine? 87 controls the. liquid feed pump 289, a fan 288 and a fuel feed pump 290.
Although these devices have been shown schematically and as if they were mounted so as to be controlled by the same shaft and at the same speed, it must of course be understood that the gears (the necessary reduction or the control links between the various devices are known and would be set up in an appropriate manner with regard to their relative speed, power, etc., and that it has only been proposed to indicate that the auxiliary turbine 287 controls the devices 2 88. 2 89 and 290 simultaneously and in concordance.
The excess liquid is extracted from the circuit for the circulating fluid through a pipe 1 and brought to a hot water tank or to the landfill. Normal continuous discharge occurs through a throttle \?, while variable discharge is through a regulating valve 3.
Ix, hearth said com steam generator carries an oil burner 4, supplied by a pipe 5, and an air chamber 6 supplied by a pipe 7. To achieve the infla.m- ination. initial of the oil burner device. a gas burner device 8 is provided, supplied by a pipe 9 by a gas stream under the control of a valve 10 controlled by an electromagnet.
The flow rate (the supply of fuel oil to burner 4 is first controlled by the speed of the oil pump 290, but the oil supply is still regulated by the throttling of a valve. regulator 13 placed in pipe 5 and the flow rate of the oil flow is continuously measured by a meter 14.
The flow rate of the air supply to support combustion is determined on board by the speed of fan 288, but is further controlled by a damper 15 placed in the. pipe 7 between the fan and the air chamber 6. The. Air flow rate is continuously measured by a flow meter 16.
The flow rate of the pressurized liquid supply through pipe 11 is controlled by the speed of pump 289 which, in turn, is under the control of varying factors in the operation of the generator.
When a steam generator of this type is in operation, certain variable factors are measured, recorded and used as the basis for the automatic control of the liquid supply to said generator and the supply of the heating furnace with combustion elements.
17 denotes an apparatus operating under the action of pressure, such as a Bourdon tube, joined to the pipe 244 and comprising an indicator needle 18 intended to cooperate with an index 19 to make known the instantaneous value of the pressure of the steam output current.
A. As an indication of the power or load of the steam generator, there is provided a Bourdon tube 20 intended to make an indicator needle 21 take a suitable position with respect to an index 22. The Bourdon tube 20 is joined by means of a pipe to the turbine 12 at a point such that the Bourdon tube is sensitive to the action of the pressure in the casing of the first stage of the turbine, which pressure is in a substantially linear relationship with the flow rate of the vapor stream.
The indications of the needle 21, relative to the scale 22, therefore represent the flow rate of the outgoing steam stream from the steam generator and thus provide an indication of the power or load of the generator.
23 designates a device operating under the action of the height of the level of the liquid in the separator 232 and constituting a pressurized box which contains a U mercury tube joined at the bottom and at the top at the separator rator. A float is arranged so as to rise and -down with the surface of the sea curing in one of the branches of the tube and thus bring -in a suitable position a needle 24 relative to an index 25 to make known the instantaneous height the level of liquid in the separator.
The flow meters 14 and 16 cooperate to bring the rod of a pilot valve 26 into a suitable position, from a determined position, when the proportion between the flow rate of the air stream and the fuel stream s' deviates from the desired value. The pilot valve 26 is intended to control the position of the fuel supply valve 13.
Bourdon tubes 17 and 20 each move the stem of a pilot valve to a suitable position to establish a pneumatic charge pressure in the mechanism of a relay 27 which applies a resulting pneumatic charge pressure to a valve. diaphragm charging device 28.
Preferably, the flow rate of the liquid supply to the circuit for the circulating fluid and combustion elements of the furnace is first controlled, by varying the speed of the auxiliary turbine and using as a basis for this control the pressure of the steam outlet stream and the pressure in the turbine casing.
However, to take into account the differences that may exist in the characteristics of the pumps and the fan, as well as variations in operating conditions, second adjustment devices have been provided to complete the primary control of the flow rate of the cooling elements. combustion. For the air, this control device consists of the register 15 placed at the outlet of the fan 288 and brought into a suitable position by a pneumatic control device 29.
For the fuel, the second adjustment device consists of the regulating valve 13 located in the pipe 5 and brought into a suitable position under the action of the deviations occurring from the desired proportion between the flow rate measured fuel flow and the measured air flow rate.
It is desirable first to vary the speed of the auxiliary turbine in accordance with the main turbine, so as to establish an approximate proportion between the flow rate of the liquid and the combustion elements entering the generator, in accordance with at the load of said generator: then to re-adjust separately a.linientation in oil and air in accordance with other: variable factors in operation dc, installation.
To determine the, speed of the. auxiliary turbine, we have. provided with a pump, c011 ipres- sor or. similar apparatus 30 controlled by the.
auxiliary turbine and with it to build up a fluid pressure (such as oil pressure) within a known ratio of to with speed. This oil pressure is then used in a regulating mechanism which normally aims to keep the speed of the auxiliary turbine constant, whatever the speed.
pressure of the vapor that feeds it. Then or load the working device take out the action of the. pressure (the oil in accordance with the variations which occur in the operation of the steam generator and the main turbine. thus achieving. the necessary speed conditions due to the regulator) variable speed of the, auxiliary turbine must ensure.
The oil leaving the pump 30 passes through a pipe 31 (which has a return pipe 32) to arrive at. an expandable metal bellows 33, intended to bring into a suitable position one of the ends @ the floating articulated connecting rod 34. The other end of the connecting rod 34 moves under the action of a driving piston and with him. said piston moving in a cylinder 35 and being. intended for. move the steam inlet valves of the auxiliary turbine.
A pilot rod 36 is suspended from connecting rod 34 between its ends and controls the flow of pressurized oil stream through pilot box 37 to opposite faces of piston 35. An adjustable valve 38, normal or green, is placed. between the pressure pipe 31 and the return pipe 32, so as to constitute a bypass bypassing the pump 30. A fixed resistor 38 'is placed in the pipe 32.
The pilot valves designated by 26 and 37 are shown in detail in, fig. 3. The pressurized fluid arrives <i, inside the box: 37 (or 26) between pilot guides 39. which are separated on a rod 36 by an interval such that they are find coincidence with; narrow annular holes 40.
When the. pilot rod moves along its axis in the box, so that the guides 39 move relative to the orifices 40, a defined charge pressure is established in the annular orifices, lying in known relation to the amplitude of this movement.
For example. if the. rod 36 goes up. there is at the upper outlet port, on the right side of the box (fig. 3), a charge pressure which increases in a definite ratio with the amplitude of said movement, as the rod 36 descends. there is a pressure at the lower outlet on the right side which increases in a defined manner with the amplitude of the movement.
The apparatus 23 (fig. 1), which operates under the action (the height of the level in the separator. Is intended to bring in a suitable position a pilot rod 41 for the emergency and successive control of the variable factors. in the operation of the generator.
We will notice. that the upper and lower outlet ports on the right side of the pilot box are both used, the top port being connected to an emergency shutoff valve 42 of the said fuel inlet. placed in the pipe 5 and the lower orifice being connected to the exhaust regulating valve 3, to the pneumatic control device 29 and to the bypass valve 38.
If we refer to. the fi-. 8. we see that it represents, using a graph. the. 2: 3 device control way (it works under the action of height (the level in the separator cylinder 232. </ B > The drain pipe 1 can be 1 1 a height coinciding with the bottom of the separator.
or can be slightly above. It is not advantageous for the water level 401 to uncover the discharge pipe, therefore a lower safety limit 402 has been indicated which is at a slightly higher level than the drain pipe. 'evacuation. Starting from this zone upwards, up to an upper safety limit 403, is the zone in which the control takes place and which is shared approximately in an operating zone (404) with throttling of the air and an operating zone with increasing evacuation.
The form given to the. pilot rod 41 as well as to the various pneumatic control devices 3, 29, 38, 42 is such that the air pressure which is established at the two outlets of the pilot valve actuates or brings into a suitable position the various ordering devices in the -et: order of succession. If the level in the separator cylinder is approximately halfway up, the desired conditions are met.
The register 15 is in its fully open position and the excess liquid extracted or discharged passing through the valve 3 is very low, if not zero. But if, as a result of operating conditions, the level of the liquid in the separator begins to rise, it occurs from one end to the other of the zone between the levels 404 and 403 in fig. 8, an additional evacuation or extraction by the valve 3, because this valve opens gradually as and. as the level rises.
That is to say, when the level in the separator rises, the pilot rod 41 descends and the air pressure which acts on the valve 3 increases in proportion to the amplitude of the movement of the pilot 41 along its axis. If the level continues to rise, despite the increase in the quantity of water discharged, and possibly reaches the upper safety limit, when this point is reached, the air pressure, which acts on the.
bypass valve 38 and increasing, begins to become greater than its spring load and closes the bypass valve, creating pressure in the bellows 33, in order to reduce the speed of the auxiliary turbine and, if the level continues to rise, this pressure can, in fact, stop the auxiliary turbine. From one end to the other of the operating zone with increasing evacuation, the register 15 (fig. 1) remains in its fully open position.
If the level in the separator drops from its position 404 to approximately mid-height, register 15 gradually closes, in the operating zone with air restriction, to a minimum open position. , and given that in addition the flow rate of the air stream acts through the differential flow meter of the air stream and the fuel stream, so as to control the fuel valve 13,
at the same time, this movement controls the fuel supply. Therefore if, for any cause resulting from the operation of the generator, the level in the separator drops below the normal height desired, the supply of fuel and air to the fireplace gradually decreases until that the equilibrium is obtained and that the level of liquid has returned or tends to return to the desired height.
If the level continues to fall towards the lower safety limit, this movement causes the pilot's upper guide 41 to come into play to vary the pneumatic charge pressure on valve 42 and, if the lower safety limit is reached, the valve 42 closes the arrival of fuel to the burner.
However, whenever the level is above this safety limit, the burner and fuel supply can operate normally unless they have been shut off by another safety device.
Fig. 2 shows a: second embodiment of the generator with a variant relating to the control operated by the level in the separator 232. FIG. 7 shows a graph of this operation which differs mainly from that of the fi-. 8 because the upper portion 406 of the height of the level is used as the operating zone of a bypass (fig. 7) of the water pump instead of the operating zone for the drain. growing.
The upper and lower safety limits can be provided and used in the same way as on the fi-. 1.
The level apparatus 23 is intended to cause the pilot rod 41 to assume a suitable position to build up a pneumatic charge pressure from the upper port on the right side of the. pilot box and va.ria.nt more or less proportionally with respect to the position taken by the pilot rod along its axis and. consequently, conforms to the height said level in the separator.
This pneumatic clia.rge pressure acts on the pneumatic control device 29 to make the register 15 and a pneumatically controlled valve 43 take a suitable position. mounted in a bypass which bypasses the water pump 289 (fig. 2).
When the level is at the. Height that Lori wants in the divider. the register 1.) is in its wide open position and there. 45 "diverter valve is closed. If the level in the separator rises above (the this height.
the bypass valve 43 begins to open and part of the water delivered by the pump circulates (the new one in the pump, thus reducing the flow in the pipe 11. but without varying the speed of the auxiliary turbine and consequently the flow rate of the fuel al-air.
If the level drops below the desired height. the bypass valve 43 then being closed (-. register 1 :) begins to close and slightly reduces the intensity of the fire without the said flow rate supplying the installation varying. juice (pi until the liquid level has returned to the desired height.
If we refer again to the fiÏ. 1, see the two holes so as to. pilot box are used, it can be seen that it is possible to vary the load acting on the various il, pneumatic control devices controlled by said pilot, so that they operate successively or encroaching. will go on the other.
Graphs 1 and 8 indicate a control taking place approximately along a straight line, the various control zones following each other directly. If we refer to fig. 9, we see that the operating zone with air throttling, for example. can have a different control than a straight line and that the. operation zone with additional evacuation or with bypass of the pump may include control according to a curve having the. nr, ine curvature mi a different curvature and that the two curves may overlap each other.
To explain this operation. it is convenient to refer to figs. 4 and; 5 which represent different forms of pilot guides. For example. the guide of the fi-. 5. which presents the shape of an elongated cone, possessed of a completely different sensitivity (that of) the roughly spherical guides of fig. 4.
It takes a different amplitude of the axial movement of the pilot rod in these two cases to obtain the same variation of the pressure (the pneumatic load, and therefore the same amplitude of the axial movement gives rise to a different variation of the pneumatic load pressure : the sensitivity is, therefore, different from one case to another.
It is easy to build a pilot rod. such as that of FIG. 6, comprising pilot guides of different sensitivity for the two outlet ports and, (more, these oils can be separated on the pilot rod by an interval as they operate and:
start to vary the pressure (the prieurnatic cliai-ge at the different orifice ..: exit, so that the two curves follow one another end to end following a straight line, as in fig. î and. 8, either that there existed:
an interval between the two curves inclined which neither the discharge flow. nor the control (the air flow rate does not undergo (the variations. either (read the two curves one on the other and that on a central portion of the. variation of the lessor of the level, one makes vary at the same time the exhaust flow rate and air flow control.
Of more. the shape of the pilot guides, as well as the load and the. shape (the springs <. the valves and the pneumatic control device 29 may be chosen to compensate for the characteristics of the damper or the functional relationship existing between the level in the separator and the air flow or register position.
Fig. 70 shows an arrangement of the apparatus 23 operating under the action of the level and in which two pilot valves can be used and operated during (the different portions of the path of the arm? 4. For example, if the level exceeds the mid-height while going up, it activates the pilot rod (the upper pilot and starts to raise it. If it exceeds this half-height while going down, it starts to lower the pilot rod of the lower pilot. When the level is at halfway up, the pilot valves do not receive any movement either.
