qui se trouve dans un rapport connu a a vec l'amplitude de ce déplacement. Par exemple, si la tige 36 se déplace vers le haut, on dispose à l'orifice de sortie, de la boîte si tué en haut à gauche (fig. 4) d'une pression de charge qui augmente dans un rapport dé fini avec l'amplitude ,de ce déplacement, tan dis que si la tige 36 descend, on dispose à l'orifice de sortie inférieur, du côté gauche, ;

Process for producing steam and for controlling the operation of a steam generator and steam generator for carrying out this process. In steam generators which contain little liquid and a quantity of stored heat susceptible of a strong release of heat, it is necessary that the admission of the liquid be continuous and proportioned at all times to the quantity of steam leaving the generator, taking into account at the same time the excess liquid that it is desired to remove .du path of circulation.
In addition, in order to achieve variations in heat release between wide limits with an almost instantaneous effect and for the operation of the combustion to be carried out efficiently, a method must be provided for operating a steam generator. of this type in accordance with variations in operating conditions.
The invention comprises a method for producing steam and for controlling the operation of a steam generator of the type without cylindrical body and with forced circulation, the fluid circulation path of which comprises at least one small diameter tube. interior and of great length, in which a liquid under pressure is introduced at one end, and only superheated steam is collected at the other end,
this method being characterized in that the liquid inlet is normally controlled according to the indications of the load of the generator, and in that the fuel and combustion air flow rates are maintained in a desired ratio.
The invention also comprises a steam generator for implementing this process. <B> It </B> is characterized in that it comprises portions for producing and superheating the steam, a separator mounted between the steam generating and superheating portions of the fluid circulation path, a counter operating under the action of the level in the separator, a regulating device controlled by a combustion air flow meter. , means controlling the admission of liquid according to the indications of the load of the generator,
and means making it possible to: maintain the flow rates (the fuel and combustion air in a desired ratio.

the fi-. 7 and 8 are details of electrical connections relating to the fi. <B> 3; </B> la, fi. 9 is a vertical section of a control mechanism. -of the fi-. 3.
On the drawing. the same parts are denoted everywhere by the same reference numbers.
The embodiments of the generator shown in FIG. 2 and 3 are of the type without cylindrical body with forced circulation, a generator of this type being shown schematically in FIG. 1. so as to show the circulation of (tidal, the circulation of the driving fluid and the heat absorption surface arranged so as to be contained in the enclosure shown in phantom.
The path for circulating the working fluid is formed by long tubes of small internal diameter joined in suitable manifolds. The generator comprises an economizer 202 placed at the cold end of the gas passage and which is supplied with liquid by a positive displacement pump 289 which is shown together with a hot water tank.
The liquid leaving an outlet manifold 2111 of the economizer is brought, through a pipe 203, to. a multiple pipe 204 which distributes it in a steam producing section 3 (12 via five pipes 205 of which a resistance to the passage of the fluid and each of which has a greater resistance than the pipe for circulating the fluid. it serves pipes distributing the liquid proportionally to.
each of the fluid circulation pipes 206, 207, 208, 209 and 210 iii constitute the production section of the generator assembly which comprises portions on the floor, against the walls and screens and against the vaulted.
These five circulation circuits which form the steam production surface penetrate tangentially into an enlarged part of the fluid circulation path, this enlarged part forming a chamber 2:
39 separation intended to share the fluid sir liquid and in vapor, the vapor passing in a superheater 242 and the excess of liquid is diverted from the path of circulation of the fluid by a pipe 1 which leads it to the hot water tank or to the landfill. Normal continuous venting is via a throttle 2. whereas variable venting is via a regulating valve 3.
The heat source 304 (fi-. 1) comprises an oil burner 4 supplied by a <B> In </B> yau 5 (fig. 2), and an air chamber 6 supplied by a pipe 7. For producing the initial ignition of the oil, an ignition device, consisting of a gas burner 8, is supplied by a pipe 9 with a gas current regulated by a valve 10 controlled by an electromagnet .
In fig. 2, which relates to the first embodiment of the generator, the fluid circulation circuit has been shown in the form of a single serpentine tube, the section of the economizer 202 of which is supplied with liquid under pressure by a pipe 11 coming from the pump 289 which, although shown in FIG. 1 as positive displacement pump, can be of any suitable type and which, therefore, has been shown in FIG. 2 in purely schematic form.
On leaving the economizer section, the fluid arrives in the steam production section 322 and passes through it, then discharges into the separator 232. On exiting said separator, the steam passes into the superheater 242 and crosses it, then leaves it via a pipe 244 to arrive at a main turbine 12, chosen as an example of a steam consuming device. The products of combustion pass successively through the steam production section, the superheater and the economizer - and may come in partial or complete contact with the separator.
An auxiliary turbine 287 drives the feed pump 289 for the liquid, a fan 288 and a feed pump 290 for the oil. Although these devices have been shown schematically and as if they were placed so as to be controlled by the same shaft and at the same speed, it must of course be understood that the necessary speed reduction gears or the control links between the various devices are to be considered as known and would be set up in an appropriate manner with regard to their speed, power, etc., relative and that it has only been proposed to indicate that the auxiliary turbine 287 operates the devices 289, 288 and 290 simultaneously and in concordance.
The flow rate of the fuel oil supply to the burner 4 is firstly regulated by the speed of the oil pump 290, but the oil flow rate is additionally regulated by the throttling of a regulating valve. 13 mounted in pipe 5. This flow is measured continuously by a flow counter 1.4.
The flow rate of the air supply serving to maintain combustion is determined on board by the speed of the fan 288, but is further controlled by a damper 15 placed in the duct 7 between the fan 288 and the air chamber 6. The air flow is continuously measured by a flow meter 16.
The flow rate of the pressurized liquid supply passing through pipe 1.1 is controlled by the speed of pump 289 which, in turn, is under the control of the varying factors of generator operation.
When a steam generator of this type is in operation, certain variable factors are measured, recorded and used as a basis for the. .automatic control of the liquid supply to the generator, and of combustion elements to the fireplace.
17 is a Bourdon tube operating under the action of pressure, connected to pipe 244 and comprising an indicator needle 18 intended to cooperate with a scale 19 to make known the instantaneous value of the pressure of the stream of steam leaving the generator .
As an indicator of the power or the load of the steam generator, a Bourdon tube 20 is provided which determines the position of an indicator needle 21 with respect to a scale 22. The Bourdon tube 20 communicates via a pipe with the turbine. 12 at a point such that the pressure acting on the Bourdon tube -is that which prevails in the casing of the first stage of the turbine and which is substantially proportional to the flow rate of the steam stream. The needle 21 therefore indicates, with respect to the scale 22, a value which represents the flow rate of the steam stream leaving the steam generator and consequently indicates the power or load of said generator.
23 denotes a device operating under the action of the liquid level in the separator 232. This device constitutes a pressurized enclosure containing a U-shaped tube with sea cure in connection with the top and the bottom of the separator. A float rises and falls to the surface of the mercury in one of the branches of the tube and thus causes a needle 24 to move relative to a scale 25, so as to give indications on the instantaneous position of the level of the liquid in the separator. .
The flow meter designated by 14 and intended to measure the flow rate of the fuel supply to the fireplace is an operative instrument: under the action of pressure differences and arranged so as to. correct the lack of linear proportionality between the differential pressure and the flow rate, so that the angular displacements of a needle 26 relative to a scale? î or by differential quantities directly proportional to the differential variations in flow.
The outline of the parts entering into the internal construction of the flow meter 14 is shown in dotted lines: it is a bell with liquid seal, the walls of which have an appropriate thickness and shape.
The flow meter 16, which is used to measure the flow of combustion air, is similar to the counter 14 and determines the position of a needle 28 relative to a scale 29 to continuously indicate the flow. instantaneous air flow towards the fireplace.
The control of the liquid supply of the fluid circulation path and of the combustion element furnace is first carried out by the speed variations of the auxiliary turbine, taking as a basis for this control the pressure of the current. exhaust (the la, vapor and the pressure in the casing of the. turbine. However, to take into account the differences which may exist in the characteristics of the pumps and the fan as well as variations in the operating conditions. at.
a second adjustment device is provided to supplement the first control of the combustion elements. For air, this second adjustment device comprises the register 15, the. position at. the output of the fan 288 is regulated by a pneumatic control device 30. For the fuel, the second adjustment device comprises the regulating valve 13 whose position in the tube 5 depends on the deviations which occur in the proportions measured with respect to the desired proportion of fuel flow and air flow.
The auxiliary turbine is normally supplied by the exhaust steam from the main turbine or by the steam drawn from an intermediate stage of the main turbine. It is advantageous to vary the speed of the auxiliary turbine in accordance with the main turbine.
so as to roughly proportion the flow of liquid and combustion elements in the steam generator in accordance with the load of that generator, and then to re-adjust the supply of liquid and fuel and air in accordance with the variable factors or characteristics of generator operation.
If the auxiliary turbine were supplied with steam at a relatively constant pressure, eg directly from the steam generator, the main role of the adjustment mechanism of the auxiliary turbine would be to vary the opening. intake valves in accordance with the operation of the main turbine.
But when the auxiliary turbine consumes draw-off or exhaust steam from the main turbine, if the load on the main turbine decreases, the steam pressure available to the auxiliary turbine drops faster than would be required for them. needs of the auxiliary turbine from the point of view of the work which it has to provide and it would probably be necessary to open the valves gradually when the load decreases and it could even happen that, the. load decreasing to a certain value, the.
amount of steam from this source is insufficient and a high pressure valve must be opened to complete the supply of draw-off or exhaust steam.
The auxiliary turbine inlet valves can therefore not be controlled directly according to the operation of the main turbine or the load of the steam generator, unless the pressure of the steam supplied to the auxiliary turbine is relative. constant like that which comes from the steam generator. However, it is advantageous if the auxiliary turbine is operated at a speed approximately in accordance with the speed of the main turbine.
To determine the speed of the auxiliary turbine, there is provided a pump, a compressor or the like 31 controlled by and with the auxiliary turbine, so as to impart to a fluid (such as oil) a pressure which is in a known relation to speed. This pressurized oil is therefore used to control a mechanism which normally tends to maintain the speed of the auxiliary turbine constant whatever the pressure of the steam which feeds it.
The load of the device operating under the action of the oil pressure is therefore varied, in accordance with the variations in the operation of the steam generator and of the main turbine, thus satisfying the necessary speed conditions which the regulator must achieve. variable speed auxiliary turbine.
The oil leaving the pump 31 passes through a pipe 32 and arrives in an expandable metal bellows 33 arranged to vary the. position of one of the ends of a floating articulated rod 34. The other end of the connecting rod 34 moves under the action of a driving piston moving in a cylinder 35 and at the same time as said piston which is intended to operate the steam inlet valves of the auxiliary turbine. .
A pilot rod 36 is suspended from the connecting rod 34 between its ends and controls the flow of pressurized oil in a pilot box 37 (shown in detail in Fig. 4) to the opposite faces of the piston 35.
The pressurized fluid arrives inside the box 37 between guides 38 of the pilot separated on the rod 36 by a gap such that they lie in coincidence with the narrow annular orifices 39. As the pilot rod moves along its path. axis in the box, so that the guides 38 move relative to the orifices 39, there is a defined load pressure in the annular orifices:
which is in a relation known with the amplitude of this displacement. For example, if the rod 36 moves upwards, we have at the outlet orifice, of the box if killed at the top left (fig. 4), a charge pressure which increases in a defined ratio with the amplitude of this displacement, tan say that if the rod 36 goes down, we have at the lower outlet orifice, on the left side,;
the one pressure which increases in a definite relation-with the amplitude of this movement.
Assuming a fixed load is applied to the upper end of the regulating spring 40, if the load on the main impeller decreases, causing a drop in the pressure of the draw-off or exhaust steam available for the pump. auxiliary turbine, the speed of the auxiliary turbine will decrease, reducing the pressure of the oil available in the bellows 33, which causes a downward movement of the left end of the connecting rod 34 with a downward movement. corresponding descent of the pilot rod 36. This movement reduces the pressure on the piston 35 and does so. increase above, so that the piston rises and returns the pilot rod 36 to its predetermined position.
The upward movement of the piston 35 opens the intake valves and thus tends to return the speed of the auxiliary turbine to its original value.
As has been said above, it is advantageous to charge the regulating spring 40 with an amount which depends on the speed of operation of the steam generator and of the main turbine. To know the load of the main turbine, the indication provided by the measurement of the steam flow rate that it receives is used and, as a measure of the thermal level of the steam generator, the indication provided by the pressure of the steam generator is used. steam current at the generator outlet.
It has been observed that the pressure in the casing of the turbine varies in a straight line with the flow rate. The pressure in the first stage is preferably used, although it can be raised. pressure in another floor what conch.
The pressure acting in the Bourdon tube 17 determines the position of a pilot rod 41 in. a pilot box 42, so as to establish an air charge pressure in a pipe 43 which represents the air pressure in. line 244. Likewise, Bourdon tube 20 determines the position of a pilot rod 44 relative to a pilot box 45, so as to establish an air charge pressure in a pipe 46 which represents the pressure in the turbine casing.
These two load pressures act on i.-Lit differential relay 47 where an air load pressure is established, which is the algebraic sum of the pressures prevailing in the pipes 43, 46 and which, through the intermediary of a pipe -18, acts. on a diaphragm 49 serving. ii load the spring 40.
If we refer to fig. 5, it is seen that the pipe 46 ends in a chamber. '> 0 separated by a diaphragm or a movable partition 52 from a chamber 51 to which the pipe 43 ends. The diaphragm 52 and a spring 53 which loads it are all joined together. two to a rod 54 to which is also attached a diaphragm 55 separating chambers 56, 57. The chamber 56 is open to the air. Pressurized air can enter through a pipe <B> 58 </B> into chamber 5 7 under the control of a valve 59. The exhaust from chamber 57 to the open air is controlled by a valve. valve 60.
The rod 54 is intended to determine the position of a control device 61 of the valves either to admit the air under pirssion by the valve 59. thus increasing the pressure in the chamber:> 7, or to release the air. air to the atmosphere through valve 60, thereby reducing the pressure in chamber 57. The pressure in chamber 57 is transmitted through pipe 48, so as to act on diaphragm 49.
It will be noted that the variations in the pressure which acts by the pipe 46 or only of the pressure which acts by the pipe 43 act. so as to vary the pressure of the air in the eliambre: i7 and consequently the pressure of the air which determines the. position known as diaphragm 49.
To load the regulating spring 41), the action exerted by the pressure in the casing of the turbine is preferably allowed to predominate. Ort can achieve this by giving the pilot's guide 38 (in box 42), the position of which depends on the pressure of the vapor stream at the outlet of the generator, a shape such that its slope is longer and less pronounced and that it must move more so that the pressure of the air varies by one kilogram and, therefore, the charge pressure of the air varies less, when the pressure of the vapor varies by an amount born gift,
in comparison with the guide 38 of the pilot of the box 45 (, the position of which is determined by the pressure in the casing of the turbine), the slope of which is relatively steeper and consequently causes a greater variation of the air charge pressure for a given variation of the pressure in the casing of the turbine. We could achieve the same result by inserting constrictions in one or the other of the pipes 43, 46, so as to make one of them more sensitive than the other to the movements of equal amplitude of the Bourdon tubes. 17, 20.
The generator can be adjusted so that a complete variation from the minimum to the maximum of the load causes a variation in the pressure (the air load sufficient to operate the auxiliary turbine in the range (the speeds which correspond weight to the variation of the load, or to obtain the desired speed variations of the auxiliary turbine corresponding to defined variations in the pressure of the steam stream leaving the generator.
In some continuous steam generators, the primary control of the inlet of the liquid and of the elements (combustion (in this case, the speed of the auxiliary turbine) was done according to the pressure known as the outlet current. cry as an indicator (read thermal level of the steam generator. <B> Ce- </B> during.
given the extreme speed with which the load varies and the weak flywheel of heat and liquid of the generator in question, as well as the need to achieve automatic operation in the entire production range, it becomes essential to can be used as a generator such as the one just described. <B> It </B> is advantageous to control the ratio between the speed of the auxiliary turbine (indicated by the oil pressure) and the pressure in the casing of the main turbine,
since the speed of the auxiliary turbine takes about the correct steam immediately after the load has changed, instead of waiting for the pressure of the steam outlet stream to change. The sensitivity of the pressure control of the steam outlet stream is reduced and the adjustment is more gradual with less general variations in the steam pressure than the conditions which would be possible to achieve by the control of the steam. a single element effected by the pressure of the outlet stream of steam.
The secondary control of the supply of oil to the burner 4 is effected by a device indicating the ratio between fuel and air. The flow meters 14, 16 are joined to one another, so that, if the ratio between the flow rate of the fuel oil and that of the combustion air of the fireplace: deviates from the desired value, a pilot rod 62 takes a position in the vertical direction so as to vary a charge pressure acting through a pipe 63 in a chamber 65 of a regulator relay 64.
If we refer to fig. 6, it is seen that the regulator relay 64 is similar to a certain extent to the relay 47 by additionally comprising a draw-off connection 67 communicating in an adjustable manner the chambers 56 'and 57'. Room 66 opens to the open air.
A charge pressure established in the chamber <B> 57 '</B> acts through a pipe 68 on the diaphragm valve 13 to make it assume a suitable position. In this case, the function of the draw-off connection 67 with adjustable operation is to complete the primary control of the pressure acting on the valve 13 by a secondary control of the same amplitude or of a different amplitude, consisting of, example, in a successive or additional action to prevent valve 13 from going too far and dancing and whereby the position taken by valve 13 does not necessarily correspond directly to the position taken by pilot rod 62 .
In the drawing, the pipes or capillaries used to transmit the control pressures of the air or of the oil have always been shown in dotted lines to distinguish them from electrical connections or from other pipes or conduits.
An additional or secondary control of the air supplied to the combustion chamber through the duct 7 is effected by making the register 15 placed in the duct 7 occupy a suitable position. This register, as well as the adjustable valve 3 placed in the bypass 1 , are brought together in a suitable position by an air charge pressure established by a pilot valve controlled by the needle 24 of the needle, float 23.
Fig. 3 shows an embodiment of the generator comprising electrical devices instead of the pneumatically controlled devices that the embodiment shown in FIG. 2.
The needle 18 is arranged to take a suitable position for a variable surface electrode of an electron discharge apparatus 69 and the needle 21 is positioned so as to take a suitable position for an electrode. variable area of an electronic discharge device 70, these two devices cooperating to control the position of a control device 71 for charging the regulating spring 40. On the sin, a single line joins the device 69 to a relay board 72 and a single line connects the apparatus 70 to the same board 72.
A conductor 73 starting from the table 72 leads to the control device 71.
An apparatus 23 ', which operates under the action of the level in the separator 232, determines the position of the movable electrode of an electronic discharge apparatus 74 electrically connected to a relay board 75, from which originate conductors which terminate in a controller 76 and a controller <B> 77. </B>

<tb> Also, <SEP> on <SEP> can. <SEP> make <SEP> vary <SEP> the <SEP> alternate voltage <SEP>, varying the magnitude of the direct voltage which is in series with the alternating voltage.
This variation in magnitude of the direct voltage is effected by varying the magnitude of the active surface area of the airframe of the apparatus 79 by a mechanical movement imparted to the arm 81. Consequently, the speed is varied. of rotation of the motor 88, which constitutes a part of the control device 89, by varying the position of the iras 81 by the differential counter 78.
Fig. 8 represents the diagram of the relay board 72 combined with the electronic unloading devices 69 and 70 which are connected in parallel to control the motor of a control device 71 (fig. 3), in conjunction with the action the pressure of the steam outlet stream and the pressure in the casing of the main turbine.
Fig. 9 shows a vertical elevation partially in section of the control device 89. which shows the type of the control devices 71, -16. 7 7 and 89 of FIG. 3.
The motor 88 is the one which bears the same number in FIG. 7 and which must turn (one-way titi milks at a speed varying from zero to the maximum, this speed varying according to the current passing through the induced evening, as clearly shown in Figs. 7 and 8.
The armature by rotating actuates a fluid pump 91, which delivers a fluid such as oil, coming from a chamber 93 located above the piston which contains it. popipe 91. in a chamber 92 located below the piston. The passage of the fluid from one of the faces (In piston on the other tends to raise the eyelet and a compression spring opposes this ungovernance, as clearly shown in the figure.
The counter pressure of the spring will vary with the speed of the motor 88 and whether one end of the apparatus, for example at 94, is. mounted so as to be able to pivot in a relatively fixed manner,
a variation in speed of the motor 88 causes a relative movement of the end 95 as it approaches or moves away from the end 94 and this movement. connected to a valve or other device whose position is to be adjusted. has the effect of bringing said apparatus into the appropriate position.
It will obviously be noted that if the direction of rotation of the pump 91 changes, the spring which opposes the movement may be a tension spring instead of a compression spring. In addition, the load resulting from the presence of the spring may be applied to the exterior of the apparatus rather than to the interior.
