Des formes d'exécution de l'objet de l'in vention sont décrites ci-après, à titre d'exem ple, avec référence aux dessins annexés, dans lesquels: Fig. 1 est une vue partielle en coupe d'un dispositif lance-bombes; Fi-. 2 est une vue en coupe suivant la ligne II-II -de la fig. 1; Fig. 3 et 4 sont des vues partielles en coupe de -deux variantes d'exécution du dis positif lance-bombes;
Bomb-launching device for airplanes and other vehicles. The launching of bombs from an airplane or other device has heretofore been relatively slow and complicated owing to the fact that for each bomb to be launched, the operator had to activate a separate control. In addition, the attachment of the bombs strictly limited the number of projectiles that could be carried by the aircraft.
The present invention is aimed at a bomb-launcher device for airplanes and other gins, ensuring very rapid and easy launching of the bombs, either separately or by series of bombs, or the entire quantity of bombs contained in the device, and allowing storing a large number of bombs while having a small footprint.
The device according to the invention is characterized in that it carries at least one reservoir tube intended to receive at least one bomb, this tube being provided with locking means acting on the. bomb to immobilize the latter normally and means for temporarily unlocking said locking means to allow the fall of the bomb.
Embodiments of the object of the invention are described below, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: FIG. 1 is a partial sectional view of a bomb-throwing device; Fi-. 2 is a sectional view along the line II-II -de FIG. 1; Fig. 3 and 4 are partial sectional views of two variant embodiments of the positive bomb launcher device;
Fig. 5 is a partially sectional view of an alternative embodiment of the upper part of the bomb-throwing device.
As shown in fig. 1 and 2, the bomb launcher device according to the invention can be constituted by a simple light tube 10, for example of thin sheet metal, which is fixed, using a base 11, for example on the floor 1.2 from the cabin, or any other suitable location on the aircraft. Said floor has an opening 13 whose diameter corresponds to the internal diameter of the tube.
In this, the bombs are stacked in the desired number, their untimely fall being prevented by a shutter or safety latch 14 which passes through the base 11 and which must be removed when it is desired to launch the bombs: The bomb lower 22 is, moreover, immobilized in the tube by an elastic device which presses it against the wall of the tube and whose control will determine the launching of one or more bombs. This device can be formed by a grooved roller 15 lined with a material with a high coefficient of friction, for example rubber, which partially penetrates into the tube 10 through an opening 16 made towards the lower end of the latter. .
Said roller is mounted on the end 17a of an angled lever 17, articulated at 18 to a yoke 19 integral with the tube, and provided at its other end 17b, with a pedal 22 0. A return spring 21 brings together said lever. to said screed. Thanks to the action of this spring and to the fact that the groove of the roller 15 preferably matches the cylindrical shape of the bomb, the latter is suitably wedged against the internal wall of the tube 1.0.
When the operator presses the pedal 20 for a very short time, the bomb 22 leaves the tube, but the roller 15, which is immediately returned by the spring 21 towards the inside of the tube, meets the side wall of the next bomb 22a and retains the latter in the tube 10. The number of bombs launched is a function of the time the pedal is lowered. It is easy to see that using this device, all the bombs contained in the tube can be launched in an excessively short time.
This results in the great advantage that all these bombs will hit the ground at points situated in line and very close together, the approximation of which is a function of the speed of the aircraft, of the wind and of the will of the bomber, so that by throwing a series of bombs along the axis of the targeted object, we have the maximum chance of achieving this objective.
It is understood that the construction of the control mechanism of the roulette wheel is susceptible of numerous variations. By arranging for example the yoke 19 and the articu lation 18 of the lever 17 above the window 16, the roller 15 can be controlled by lifting the end 17b of the lever 17 using a cable or the like. . The same. the screed 19 can be fixed to the floor 12.
In addition, the latch 14 may be provided with an operating mechanism. distance allowing it to be brought back to its active position, once the shot is finished.
An alternative embodiment of the bomb-launcher tube is shown in fig. 3. The tube 10a has a removable lock 14a in the shape of a <B> U. </B> At its upper end, the tube is closed by a stopper 50. A safety device, for example a U, 51, is gou looted or sealed in the tube and carries a disc 52 serving as a support for a thrust spring 53. The latter is supported by a washer 54 on the upper bomb located in the tube. This spring keeps the bombs in place during the evolutions of the plane and facilitates the launching of the bombs, especially when the tube is tilted.
Above the window 16a, a yoke 19a is fixed to the tube by a ring 55 which also serves to fix one end of an elastic strip 56 which penetrates into the window 16a. An angled lever 57, articulated at 18a to said yoke, has at one of its ends a curved spout 58 and, at its other end, a handle 59. A spring 60 attached to the yoke 19a and to the lever 57, normally penetrates the spout 59 in the window 16a, so as to apply the spring 56 against the lower bomb and immobilize the latter. To release one or more bombs, it suffices to lift the handle 59 for the required time.
The variant shown in fig. 4 is specially designed for launching single bombs. The elbow lever 61 is hinged at 62 to an elongate support 63 attached to the outside of the launch tube. One end of the bent lever forms a pedal 64, while its other end is hinged at 65 to an oscillating lever 66 which is hinged at 67 to the support 63. The ends of the lever 66 are bent forming jaws 68, 69 located opposite the windows 70, 71 of the lob tube. The pressure spring 72 normally lifts the pedal 64 so as to engage the spout 68 under the bottom of the lower bomb which is thus blocked.
By pressing on the pedal 64, the spout 68 is released so as to release a bomb, while the spout 69 applies the spring 73 against the periphery of the next bomb. By releasing the pedal, the mechanism returns to the position shown in fig. 4, so that the next bomb will remain blocked by the nozzle 68.
As shown in fig. 5, the closure of the upper end of the tube 10, 10a, lob can be obtained by means of a cover 50a with bayonet closure cooperating with lugs 74 integral with the tube, which cover is locked for example by means of 'a safety pin 75. A tension spring <I> 53a. </I> is supported, on the one hand, on said cover and, on the other hand, by means of a washer 54a, on the upper bomb being in the tube.
It goes without saying that an airplane could be equipped with several bomb-launching tubes according to the invention, arranged vertically, horizontally or with inclination, in the cabin or outside it, for example under the wings or in the cabin. the very profile of the wings, or in the struts of the aircraft. The individual controls of all or a number of the bomb launchers may be interconnected in any suitable manner to allow their simultaneous actuation.
In addition, it should be noted that the control of the launching mechanism, as well as that of the safety lock provided at the lower part of the tube, can be carried out by mechanical means or by electromagnetic means. Preferably, a mixed control will be applied comprising a combination of these two means, the mechanical control being used in the event of damage to the. electromagnetic control.
