<EMI ID=1.1>
<EMI ID=2.1>
<EMI ID=3.1>
Improvements to weapons intended to fire projectiles
having their launch charge housed in an attached sleeve.
Weapons are known for firing projectiles having a relatively large caliber and provided with a charge.
launching device housed in a casing inserted in the projectile.
In the use of weapons of this type, we find
serious drawbacks that arise from the existence of the socket, because when firing this socket in general is driven by
the projectile from which it then detaches; indeed if the
cartridge case remains in the barrel of the weapon it can hamper some
<EMI ID = 1.1>
projectile it can affect its trajectory and in the event that the case falls from the projectile near the weapon, it can injure people who are in the vicinity of the weapon.
The present invention relates to an improvement in weapons of the type indicated; according to the invention, the weapon is provided with a device which retains the case in a determined position in the weapon and allows its exit from the weapon after the projectile has left the weapon and, advantageously, during the next load operation.
In the accompanying drawing is shown by way of example an embodiment of the invention; fig. 1 is the partial schematic longitudinal section of the weapon while FIG. 2 is the corresponding plan view and FIG. 3 is the section taken along line 3-3 of FIG. 1.
In the embodiment shown, the weapon comprises the frame 1 in which is mounted the sliding barrel 2 which is controlled in any appropriate way in order to fit on. the projectile and to release the loading window 3 provided in the frame 1; the striker 4 is mounted in the'eu-
<EMI ID = 2.1>
rear of the barrel, the firing pin being controlled in any appropriate manner in order to carry out its arming and its release for firing.
The weapon is intended to fire projectiles from the
type shown, these projectiles 5 being provided with a case 6 which is attached to the rear part of the projectile and contains the launch charge.
The loading is carried out by introducing the projectile into the chamber which exists in the frame 1 when the barrel 2 is at the anterior end of its stroke and then by moving the barrel back so that it fits on the projectile, after what the expansion device releases the per-cutter 4 which ignites the load contained in the socket 6; after firing the barrel is returned by hand to the front end of its stroke for the next loading of the weapon.
According to the invention, the weapon is provided with engagement members which retain the case 6 in a determined position so as to prevent it from accompanying the projectile, and which allow the expulsion of said case only after the departure of the projectile, for example during the next loading, in order to avoid the drawbacks mentioned above.
In the embodiment shown, there is provided for this purpose in the frame 1 a seat 7 which is limited by lateral projections 8 directed inwards, this seat opening into the loading window 3 and receiving the base. 6 'of the socket 6; facing the part occupied by the socket 6 under the conditions indicated, the frame 1 comprises an opening 9 having dimensions suitable for allowing the fall of
the socket.
The guide 7, 8 is preferably flared towards the front part of the weapon at its end opening into the
<EMI ID = 3.1>
tion of the base 6 'in said guide during loading.
The loading of the weapon is carried out by inserting a projectile through the window 3 when the barrel 2 is at the anterior end of its stroke and by making the base 6 'of the case 6 penetrate the guide 7, 8, after what is made move back the barrel which completely closes the window 3 and the opening 9. During the firing the case 6 is retained by its base 6 'in the guide 7, 8 and it cannot pass in the barrel nor accompany the projectile in its trajectory while when the weapon is opened for the loading following the barrel * the 6 falls through the opening 9 which during this operation is left open by the barrel.
Of course, the engagement members can be made in any suitable way and a device capable of positively expelling the case outside the weapon can be adopted.
