<tb> Lauryl-ethyl-amylaceto-sulfoniLim ätlloxysulfat The sulfonium group is essential for all these compounds. Compounds containing this group
are soluble in water or organic solvents, depending on the nature of the acid radical bound to the Slv atom.
The sulfonium compounds mentioned are ideal, for example, for protecting objects made of wool, hair, fur, feathers and the like, with the exception of those in the textile industry, from moth damage. Even in very low concentrations, they give the treated goods reliable protection. Solutions in water or cheap organic solvents such as hydrocarbons, Cblorkohlen- hydrocarbons, alcohols, ketones, etc. or mixtures thereof are mainly used for the use. The substances to be protected can be impregnated by brushing, spraying or dipping.
The same result leads to the precipitation of the active substances on the object to be protected from an alkaline solution by acids. The solutions can be nebulized without any harmful effects being observed for the warm-blooded animals. In addition, the compounds mentioned can be emulsified in oils, fats and creams or used as additives to powders or in all forms of application known for the purposes of pest control, in particular insect control. They can also be used in combination with other control and repellant agents that are already known for the same purposes.
The agents used according to the present process show a very pronounced effect even in low concentrations. So treated substances, such as plants or hair, furs, feathers, etc. he are constantly against infestation BEZW. against animal damage, especially moths, ge protected. Pests such as moths, plant pests, parasites, bacteria, etc., which are hit by the toxic sulfonium compounds, are killed in a short time. The effects of the poison on stick insects can easily be followed quantitatively, which is very useful for setting and dosing the new agents.
Another advantage of the process is the strong wetting effect of the sulfonium compounds used. The consequence of this is that the treated objects are wetted and penetrated in a very short time and without gaps, which results in a very even and rapid effect.
<I> Example 1: </I> 3 parts of triphenyl sulfonium chloride are dissolved in 97 parts of alcohol or water, and furs, hair or feathers are treated by dipping or. In the case of using an aqueous solution, draw it up from a neutral bath containing Glauber's salt at <B> 95 '</B> and dry. The goods treated in this way are real. Even more dilute solutions are sufficient to achieve good protection against moth damage.
<I> Example: 2: </I> Furs, hair or feathers are treated at 95 o with a 3 o / o neutral, Glauber's salt-containing aqueous solution of S-phenyl-thianthrene sulfonium chloride and dried. Such goods are reliably protected from moth damage. Even more dilute solutions have a significant poisonous effect on moth larvae.
<I> Example 3: </I> An aqueous solution of p-stearylamido-benzyl-amyl-ethyl-sulfonium ethoxysulfate produces a strong inhibitory effect on Staphylococcus aureus, even in greater dilution. In the usual dilutions, there is no development, and existing cultures are destroyed within a short time.
Example <I> 4: </I> Leaves are sprayed with a 2% aqueous solution full of S-phenyl-thiantbrene sulfonium chloride or a suspension of its perchlorate. If you feed these leaves to stick insects, for example, which are known to be very resistant to poisons, they will die after 24 hours.
Another practical advantage is that, as shown above, the sufonium compounds are largely soluble in water as well as in organic solvents and can also be applied from these to fur or feathers. This distinguishes them from similar products used for the same purposes.
Protection for the present process is only claimed insofar as it is not a purely mechanical refinement of textile fibers that is suitable for the textile industry.
