Description
Method for producing a polyvinyl compound. The main patent describes the production of a reaction product of polyvinyl alcohol and formaldehyde that is soluble in organic solvents by reacting the two components in the presence of an organic solvent. It is stated in the main patent that the polyvinyl alcohol either as such or in statu nascendi, i.e. H.
at the moment of its emergence from a polyvinyl ester, can be used.
It has now been found that in an analogous manner by reacting polyvinyl alcohol with benzaldehyde in the presence of an organic solvent, a product which is soluble in organic solvents can be obtained. In this case, too, the polyvinyl alcohol can be used in statu nascendi.
The new product can be used for the manufacture of paints, especially electrical insulation sheets. Examples: 1. 2; 5 parts by weight of polyvinyl alcohol are heated to 80 for 2 hours in a mixture of 150 parts by weight of benzene and 60 parts by weight of benzaldehyde and 1f2 part by weight of concentrated sulfuric acid.
Condensation occurs to form a product which is soluble in benzene and other organic solvents. The benzene is blown off with steam. The colorless product, dried in vacuo, is very heat-resistant and dissolves in benzene, diogan and other organic solvents.
2 .. In an analogous way; As indicated in Example 1, a polyvinyl alcohol can be used in statu nascendi by allowing polyvinyl acetate and benzaldehyde to act on one another in a benzene solution in the presence of an inorganic acid,
whereverification of the polyvinyl acetate and simultaneous acetalization occur.
