Process for the preparation of a dye of the anthraquinone series. It is known that certain anthrachinone derivatives can be condensed with the formation of compounds of high molecular weight, many of which are valuable dyes. Various processes for the preparation of N-dihydro-1,2,2 ', 1'-anthraquinone azine, for example by condensation of 2-amino anthraquinone by means of a caustic alkali melt, have been proposed.
However, this widely used method suffers from certain technical disadvantages associated with the use of concentrated caustic alkalis.
It has also been proposed to prepare N-dihydro-1,2,2 ', 1'-anthraquinone azine and its derivatives from various other aminoanthraquinones, the condensation usually in a high-boiling medium such as nitrobenzene, in the presence of a catalyst , e.g. B. of metallic copper, copper acetate or a chlorine compound of copper, and an acid-binding substance such as sodium acetate, was made.
For example, the American patent specification No. 1833 808 and the corresponding British patent specification No. 268 537 describe the production of a dye which appears to be N-dihydro-1,2,2 ', 1 '-anthraquinone azine is formed by condensation of 1-amino-2-chloroanthraquinone in nitrobenzene in the presence of copper powder or a copper chlorine compound and an acid-binding substance. The condensation of derivatives of 1-amino-2-halogenanthrachinone is also described in German Patent No. 168,287.
The American patent specification No. 1 452 774 and the corresponding British patent specification No. 172 682 disclose the condensation of 2-amino-1-bromo-3-chloroanthraquinone in nitrobenzene in the presence of copper acetate and sodium acetate to a blue dye designated as a dichloro-N-dihydro-1,2,2 ', 1'-anthraquinone azine.
A general overview of the previously known processes for the preparation of N-dihydro-1,2,2'1'-anthraquinone azine and its derivatives can be found in the book by Houben, "Das Anthracen und die Anthrachinone" (1929) .
Although the 2-amino -1-bromo-3-chloro-anthraquinone has been condensed to a dichloro-N-dihydro-1,2,2 ', 1'-anthraquinone azine, it has not yet been shown that 2- Allow amino-l-chloroanthraquinone and its derivatives to condense to N-dihydro-1,2,2 ', l'-anthraquinone azine and its derivatives.
This fact can be explained by the fact that 2-amino-l-chloroanthraquinone obviously behaves differently than 2-amino-l-bromoanthraquinone, as from the book by Houben (page 475) or German patent specification No. 275 299 (Friedländer 12 , 415), in which it is pointed out that the 2-amino-1-bromoanthraquinone is converted into 2-amino-3-bromoanthraquinone when heated, whereas this conversion, as Houben expressly explains, "does not relate to the Chlorine derivatives extends ".
The chlorine and bromine in the 2-amino-l-halogenanthraquinones do not behave in the same way, is also evident from the German patent specification No. 253 683 (Friedländer 11, 554), which teaches that brominating 2-amino- anthraquinone-3-sulfonic acid and subsequent cleavage of the sulfonic acid group forms 2- amino-3-bromoanthraquinone,
while chlorination of 2-aminoanthraquinone-3-sulfonic acid and subsequent cleavage of the sulfonic acid group results in 2-amino-1-chloroanthraquinone. Furthermore, it has never been possible to find 2-amino-1-chloroanthraquinone or its derivatives. such as B. 2-Amino-1,3-dichloroanthraquinone, in the presence of the usual condensing agents, such as metallic copper and copper acetate, to condense and so a blue dye of the N-Dhhydro-1 "2 ', 1'-anthraquinone series in satisfactory Amount to receive.
In the customary technical processes for the production of chlorine derivatives of N-dihydro-1,2,2 ', 1'-anthraquinone azine (indanthrene) one arrives indirectly - by means of caustic alkali fusion of 2-amino anthraquinone and subsequent chlorination of the resultant Product - to the end product.
It has now been found that such chlorine derivatives can be produced directly by condensing 2-amino-1-chloroanthraquinones in the presence of copper-halogen compounds.
The subject matter of the present patent is a process for the production of 3,3'-dichloroindanthrene by condensation of 2-amino-1,3-dichloroanthraquinone with the aid of a copper-halogen catalyst.
Suitable catalysts are cuproiodide, cupribromide and cuprobromide.
Instead of working with these catalysts, salt mixtures can also be used which, under the conditions prevailing during the condensation, form the catalyst in question, at least in part. Such mixtures are, for example, Kupferace did and / or copper carbonate, together with potassium, sodium, calcium and / or Ba riumbromid respectively. -iodide.
The dichloroanthraquinone can either be obtained by further chlorination of 2-amino-1-chloro-anthraquinone, or according to the method described by Junghans (Ann. 399, 316, 1913), or 2-aminoanthraquinone can be obtained in benzene for the purpose suspended, chlorinated with the help of sulfuryl chloride.
The raw material can be used for condensation in the raw state; However, a higher yield and a purer product is obtained if it is previously BEZW by recrystallization from an organic solvent. by dissolving in sulfuric acid to form a solution of a suitable concentration (e.g. <B> 80%), </B> diluting, filtering, washing out with diluted sulfuric acid and finally boiling with water.
Preferably, the 2-amino-1,3-chloranthraquinone is heated in the presence of a suitable ge, at the reaction temperature liq termed substance such. B. naphthalene, nitro-benzene, together with the catalyst and a weakly alkaline, acid-binding substance, eg. B. sodium acetate. It is advisable to stir or shake the reaction mixture when carrying out the process in practice.
The condensation is expediently carried out within a temperature range from about 165 to 190 C. Particularly favorable results are achieved at a temperature of about 175 to 185 C.
The acid-binding substance, as well as the solution or Suspending agents which are used in the condensation can be chosen to be largely different in terms of their nature and amount. Sodium acetate and / or sodium carbonate are preferably used as acid-binding substances, in fact expediently in excess, that is to say more than is necessary to neutralize the amount of acid released in the condensation reaction.
As examples of high-boiling solution or. Suspending agents are naphthalene, nitrobenzene, chlorobenzenes and nitotoluene. Other acid-binding substances and other indifferent solutions which are liquid at the reaction temperature and which do not adversely affect the reaction can also be used. Suspending agents are used.
<I> Example 1: </I> A mixture of 10 parts by weight of \ -amino-1,3-dichloroanthraquinone, 7 parts by weight of anhydrous sodium acetate, 0.5 parts by weight of cuproiodide and 100 parts by weight of naphthalene is heated for so long with vigorous agitation about 185 C, until no further dye formation occurs. The melt is diluted with solvent naphtha and filtered. After washing out the naphthalene with solvent naphtha, the latter is removed with alcohol and the product is finally washed with water.
The 3,3'-dichloroindanthrene is obtained in beautiful, metallic shiny blue crystals of excellent purity. This dye provides excellent color resistance to light, soap, boiling water and chlorine. It most likely has the constitution expressed by the following formula:
EMI0003.0028
<I> Example 2: </I> A mixture of 10 parts by weight, 2-amino-1,3-dichloroanthraquinone, 7 parts by weight of dry sodium acetate, 0.5 parts by weight of cupribromide and 100 parts by weight of naphthalene is heated with the exclusion of air or Air admission while stirring at <B> 175 </B> C until no further dye formation occurs. The melt is diluted with solvent naphtha and filtered.
After washing out the naphthalene with solvent naphtha, the latter is removed with alcohol and the product is finally washed with water. The dye is obtained in blue crystals of an excellent degree of purity.
<I> Example 3: </I> A mixture of 10 parts by weight of 2-amino-1,3-dichloroanthraquinone, 7 parts by weight of anhydrous sodium acetate, 0.5 part by weight of cuprobromide and 100 parts by weight of naphthalene is heated for so long with thorough stirring about 185 ° C, until no further formation of dye occurs and the solid product obtained is won in the manner described in the preceding examples. The dye thus obtained - 3,3'-dichloroindanthrene - has the properties already mentioned and, most likely, the constitution given in Example 1.
It is not identical to the dihydroazine formed by chlorination of the melt product, but is clearly superior to it in terms of bleach resistance and luminosity.
