Bombe extinctrice d'incendie.
Fire extinguisher bomb. In recent years, extinguisher bombs have asserted themselves, among the known means of extinguishing a fire, as very effective despite some faults, an internal pressure produced by the bursting of an explosive charge, generally arranged in the center of the. bomb, breaks the envelope and then the extinguishing mass, solid and in the form of dust or liquid, contained in the bomb, is projected all around on the fire source.
One of the drawbacks of this type of bomb resides in the fragility of the bomb's own envelope, a fragility essential for proper operation but having the drawback that, when the bomb is launched on the fire source, the The outer casing deteriorates or is partially destroyed. The internal pressure produced by the deflagration of the explosive charge then produces the. projection of the solid or liquid extinguishing charge in an irregular manner and most often in the direction of the areas of the envelope which offer the least resistance, which weakens the extinguishing effect of the bomb, which may become partial due to lack of homogeneity of the extinguisher breath.
The disadvantage naturally increases when the extinguishing agent is a liquid which escapes through accidental fractures, even before the bomb is operating.
In order to prevent the shell of the bomb containing the extinguishing charge from deteriorating on falling and thus reducing the efficiency of the extinguishing action, the expedient of protecting the clean shell from the bomba by layers supported on the outside, on the envelope itself, of a thick material, for example cardboard, resistant to the shocks produced by the fall of the bomb during its launch.
These layers of thick material noticeably hamper the projection of the extinguisher mass, especially when the bomb is provided with external metal elements for the assembly of the elements which form said layers of protection against impacts and for keeping them in place. on the shell of the bomb. The handling of such bombs is dangerous because of the material used in their manufacture, which shatters and acts like projectiles, at the same time reducing the uniformity of the scattering of the extinguishing charge.
The ignition of the explosive charge of these bombs takes place in general by the ignition in contact with the flames of the fire and the combustion which ensues of the filaments by which the cable-holder tube, in celluloid or similar product, is extended outside the bomb casing. This plug holder is destroyed by combustion and breaking at the instant of the deflagration of the primer wick it contains.
The purpose of this tube, which is generally arranged parallel to the rod of the axial armature of the bomb, is to protect the attachment wick against contact with the extinguishant and humidity in general, but it does not possess, by reason of the very nature of the matter which constitutes it, the properties necessary for this purpose; its mechanical strength being very small, it is very difficult for the tube to withstand, without deteriorating, the considerable forces to which it is subjected during the making of the bomb.
If the integrity of this tube is lacking, even partially, the operation of its primer wick and, consequently, the very operation of the bomb becomes problematic.
The object of the present invention is a fire extinguisher which makes it possible to eliminate the aforementioned drawbacks. The bomb is provided with an explosive charge contained in a cartridge preferably spherical or spheroidal, with advantageously, rupture lines, preferably placed in the center of the bomb; this cartridge is mounted sealingly on a tubular rod. The invention consists in that the tubular rod forms an internal frame supporting the whole of the extinguisher bomb and contains at least one wick and carries at least one control thereof to cause ignition, of the explosive charge.
A primer communicates with the explosive charge preferably through openings provided in the tubular rod. This rod, because of its function of supporting frame for the bomb, is preferably made of a material capable of mechanically resisting all the forces to which it is exposed during all the operations of preparation, loading and assembly of the bomb. bomb, which at the same time constitutes absolute protection of the primers contained in the rod, ensuring operation in any case even long after the bomb has been made.
The choice of a spherical or at least spheroidal cartridge for the explosive charge instead of a cylindrical cartridge is dictated by the fact that the latter, due to its shape, presents to the deflagration of the walls of different resistance, which produces projection zones of uneven intensity of the extinguishing mass, which takes place to the detriment of a homogeneous extinguishing effect. The mature ar tube is preferably arranged axially in the bomb, so that, due to its central position with respect to the explosive charge, it is exposed, during the explosion, to a set of pressures. inverses which balance in all directions and prevent the projection of the tube.
On the ends of the armor tube are advantageously mounted concave or convex discoid members made of a non-metallic material, which does not shatter, for example cardboard, papier-mâché or similar materials, which hold in place, com complete and close the clean envelope of the extinguisher bomb, this envelope being able to be made, as well as all the parts of the bomb which can be projected by the explosion of the inner explosive cartridge, of harmless, thin material, lightweight, non-metallic, non-shattering, and waterproof.
The shell of the bomb may be of a polyhedral, spherical, spheroidal, elliptical, prismatic or any other suitable shape.
Two embodiments of the object of the invention are shown, by way of example, in the drawing, in which the same reference numerals indicate the same parts, FIG. 1 shows, in axial section, an extinguisher bomb provided with an operating handle and two primers, one with thermal control, the other with time control of the friction type which is operated immediately before depositing or to throw the bomb at the fire source. The bomb is shown without the protective reticle.
Fig. 2 shows, in partial axial section, another fire extinguisher, without handle, particularly intended for launching, provided with a flexible lever for launching and suspension and also with a double control.
primer for the explosive charge, namely of a thermally controlled primer and a time controlled primer of the friction type, the latter being actuated in the launch case, the two controls being arranged coaxially in the same tube, as in the embodiment shown in FIG. 1.
In fig. 1, the bomb support frame consists of a tubular rod 1 of a material of suitable strength and one end of which is provided with an external thread for tightening with double nut 3, which fixes the cover 4, made of a non-metallic material which does not shatter, of the shell 5 of the bomb having break lines 28, the other end 6 of the tubular rod being of a flared shape and being provided with a internal thread 7 and a flange 8 which supports the closure cover 9 by one of its faces and which bears by means of a washer 10 against the handle 11 perforated longitudinally, made of wood or other material,
fixed by a drilled connection 12 threaded externally to the enlarged end 6 of the tubular rod 1; the assembly thus formed is easy to assemble and disassemble, which allows assembly after the bomb has been loaded. The time-controlled primer is formed by a friction detonating cap 13 having a friction spiral 14 which extends through. through the hole in connector 12 and handle 11.
by a cord 15 terminated by an operating ring 16, This kind of saccade ignition control requires that the arrangement of the explosive capsule offers sufficient resistance to withstand the high tension necessary to unwind the friction spiral with a certain speed on the explosive material. This condition does not apply when the capsule is placed on flexible materials, such as for example cardboard or celluloid which, in their turn, do not rest on rigid materials; the capsule of the wick can then move an instant before the ignition, thus causing a miss of the bomb.
The arrangement of such a control in the tubular rod 1 guarantees the immobility of the capsule and, consequently, the functioning of the organs, as if it were known as a firearm.
When the detonating capsule 13, with its friction spiral 14 extended by the cord 15, is placed in the tube 1, it is in contact with the safety wick 17 which, being slow combustion, uses, once ignited by the friction cap 13, a few seconds to transmit the ignition to the priming wick 18 which, through the lights 19, communicates the fire to the explosive charge 20 contained in the spherical or spheroidal cartridge 21 (or other form ) mounted in a sealed manner on the tubular rod 1 so that the slots 19 are centrally located in the cartridge 21 which annularly surrounds the rod 1.
The priming bit 18 which, by its end less distant from the openings of the rod is in contact with the safety wick 17., is extended into the tubular rod 1 beyond the slots 19 until it comes out through the end 2, threaded on the outside, so that an appendage 22 results completely enveloped by a hermetic case 23 made of a colluloid derivative impermeable to humidity and comprising a very low point of ignition, this case being provided at its upper outer part with crimping filaments 24 of the same material with a very low point of ignition,
passing through wide openings 25 of the protective cap 26 made of a lightweight material which does not shatter. The special feature of the whole device for initiating the explosive charge 20 of this bomb resides in the coaxial arrangement, in the tubular rod of the inner frame, both of the thermal initiator constituted by the wick 18 with rapid combustion with the filaments 24 of the waterproof case 23, that of the friction controlled time primer comprising the ring 16 with the jerking cord 15, the friction spiral 14, the detonating friction capsule 13 and the slow combustion safety fuse 17 for a predetermined duration.
If we want to use this bomb as a launching bomb, the reticle or protective cage (not shown) is fixed on one side to the cap 26 and on the other to the operating handle by means of an annular clamping member. not shown.
The operation of this fire extinguisher is very simple and safe. Holding the bomb by the handle 11, the ring 16 is pulled from the horn 15 and the unwinding of the spiral 14 is thus determined which, by its friction, detonates the capsule 13, which ignites the wick 17 with slow combustion and of predetermined duration, after which the bomb is put in some way on the fire source where the filaments 24 coming out of the lumens 25 of the protective cap 26 ignite either by the heat of the fire or on contact flames, so that the fire is communicated to the fast wick 18 which,
ignited at one end by the safety wick 17 and at the other by the filaments 24, as a result of the progress of its combustion, transmits the ignition through the openings 19 of the tubular rod 1 to the explosive charge 20 which, by its explosion, breaks the envelope 5 of the bomb along its rupture lines (the launching bombs being protected against shocks by means of the reticle or protective cage mentioned), so that the extinguishing charge is scattered all around regularly, extinguishing the fire.
The fi-. 2 shows a typical launching fire extinguisher, without a handle, provided with a reticle or protective cage, formed by elements in the form of bars 27, in a material which does not shatter but flexible like the casing 5 and of spherical shape, but which could also be of any other unspecified shape, for example polyedric, and which comprises predetermined breaking lines 28. The bomb is armed internally with the tubular rod 1 and the cartridge 21 contains the explosive charge 20 and is mounted as in the bomb of FIG. 1.
The enlarged end 6, internally threaded, of this tubular rod 1 which, in FIG. 1 is connected to the perforated handle made of wood or other material, is provided in this case with a small perforated connector 29 for the passage of the friction cord 15 of the detonating capsule 13 with friction of the primer in time and the wooden handle is replaced by a protective cap 26a similar to the cap 26 which protects the other polar zone of the bomb. the protective cage formed by the bars 27 of flexible material absorbing the shocks of a fall, resting on these caps.
Through an opening 25 of the cap 26a, the ring 16 exits, the traction of which tends the cord 15 and produces the unwinding of the spiral 14 in the detonating capsule 13 which, by its detachment, ignites the primer at, time to time. the launching of the bomb, which by falling on the source of fire or near it causes the ignition of the thermal initiator by the filaments 24 which exit through the opening of the other cha skin 26 .
This launch bomb is provided with a lever 30 made of textile material. which is extended by a strip 31, also of textile material, going around the bomb in a plane perpendicular to the tubular rod 1 and which serves to fix the protective elements 27 to the surface of the casing 5, such as way that curved elements are obtained which spring and thus dampen the shock of the fall, in order to protect, with the two polar caps 26 and 26a made of elastic material which does not shatter, the envelope of the bomb .
and prevent it from deteriorating when it falls on the hard bodies of the fire source. The elements 27 may for example be made of gum, pa pier mâché, hardened cardboard, etc. Due to their distance from the envelope, their reduced cross-section and the large meshes they form, they do not prevent the homogeneous projection of the extinguishing charge. The elements 27 are supported near the ends of the inner rear, but the bearing areas of the protective cage could also be elsewhere.
As a variant of the embodiment, according to fig. 2, the safety wick 17 can be omitted and instead the wick 18 can be extended over the entire length of the tubular reinforcing rod by providing a device 23, 24 at both ends thereof.
The operation of the bomb according to fig. 2 is in all similar to that of the bomb of FIG. 1.
It is possible to make, by combining the same constituent elements of the two bombs described in different ways, other types of bombs of the same type, without departing from the scope of the invention.
