Elle est caractérisée par le fait qu'elle comporte en combinaison: un étui se composant d'un corps et d'un couvercle amovible, un coulisseau se mouvant dans le corps, portant les éléments de la touffe de la houppe et pouvant occuper deux positions, à l'une desquelles les éléments se trouvent entière ment à l'intérieur du corps et peuvent être mis à l'abri de tout contact au moyen du couvercle, tandis qu'à l'autre ces éléments font saillie hors du corps en vue de l'utili sation de la houppe, , un organe de manceuvre passant à travers la paroi du corps, relié au coulisseau et per mettant de déplacer celui-ci de l'extérieur.
La figure unique du dessin annexé est une coupe longitudinale axiale d'une forme d'exécution de la houppe à poudre suivant l'invention, donnée à titre d'exemple.
L'étui a de cette forme d'exécution est fait en métal et est cylindrique. Son corps b est fermé à l'une de ses extrémités par un fond plat c, venu de fabrication avec le reste du corps, et présente vers l'autre un rebord d, au-dessus duquel se trouve une partie cylindrique e d'épaisseur plus faible. Son couvercle f comporte un fond g légèrement bombé, une partie cylindrique h s'emboitant sur la partie e et un rebord i. Les épaisseurs des parties<I>e, h</I> sont choisies de manière que leur somme soit sensiblement égale à l'épais seur de la paroi j du corps b; les diamètres extérieurs des deux rebords<I>d, i</I> sont égaux.
Le coulisseau k comporte une pièce mé tallique tubulaire l dont le diamètre extérieur est sensiblement égal au diamètre intérieur du corps b, et un fond rapporté m, en métal ou en une autre matière. Il présente un ren flement intérieur n maintenant en place par serrage les soies ou poils o de la touffe de la houppe qui fait saillie vers le haut. La longueur totale du coulisseau k et des soies o est telle que ces dernières se trouvent en des sous du haut du corps b quand le premier est à fond de course vers le bas.
L'organe de manoeuvre du coulisseau 7c est constitué par un bouton métallique p dont la tige<I>q</I> est rendue solidaire de la pièce<I>1,</I> par soudage ou vissage par exemple, et passe dans une coulisse rectiligne longitudinale r du corps b; sa tête s, de section transversale rectangulaire, se trouve à l'extérieur de celui- ci, et se compose de deux parties: une base ayant la forme d'un prisme droit, une partie s ayant la forme d'une pyramide tronquée; elle forme une saillie relativement faible sur b. .
Lorsqu'on ne se sert pas de la houppe, le coulisseau k est à fond de course vers le bas; les soies o se trouvent entièrement à l'intérieur du corps b et sont mises à l'abri de tout contact par le couvercle f. C'est la position que le dessin montre en trait plein. Si l'on veut l'utiliser, on enlève le couvercle f et l'on agit de bas en haut sur le bouton p. On déplace le coulisseau 7c dans le corps b et les soies o font saillie hors de celui-ci en prenant la forme d'un tronc de cône; par suite de leur serrage par le renflement m.
C'est la position en trait mixte du dessin. Pour remettre les soies o à l'abri de tout contact, il suffit d'agir de haut en bas sur le bouton<I>p</I> et de remettre le couvercle f en place.
Les matières dont l'étui et le coulisseau sont faits, leurs formes et leurs dispositions, la fixation des soies, l'organe de manoeuvre peuvent. différer de ceux qui ont été indi qués.

The case of this embodiment is made of metal and is cylindrical.
