Elektrisches Leuchtschild.
Die Erfindung ist auf der Zeichnung an Ausführungsbeispielen näher veranschaulicht. Fig. 1 stellt in perspektivischer Hinteran sicht eine Ausführungsform des neuen Leuchtschildes dar; Fig. 2 zeigt diese Ausführungsform in Vorderansicht; F.ig. .3 ist ein Schnitt nach Linie A-B der Fig. 2;
Fig. 4 veranschaulicht in perspektivischer Ansicht einen einzelnen Buchstaben des neuen Leuchtschildes; Fig. 5 stellt eine andere Ausführungsform des neuen Leuchtschildes mit unter der Buch stabenreihe befindlichem schmalen Leucht- band dar; Fig. 6 zeigt das Leuchtschild gemäss Fig. 5 von hinten; Fig. 7 zeigt eine weitere Ausführungs form des neuen Leuchtschildes für die gleich zeitige Beleuchtung von Schaufensteraus lagen und dergleichen;
Electric light sign. In the field of advertising, attempts are constantly being made to create new creative ideas, since a good advertising effect is in most cases partly due to the novelty of the advertising object.
The invention relates to a luminous sign with luminous characters, for example letters, made of a transparent material, whereby a special light source is seen for illuminating the same.
The essence of the invention lies in the fact that the signs on the illuminated sign are made of a translucent plastic material, and have bent edges at the back, and are arranged free-standing on a carrier, and that a light source is sunk in the illuminated sign so that it is attached can illuminate the transparent characters at an angle from behind.
In the case of an illuminated sign designed according to the invention, a particularly good advertising effect is achieved in that the viewer of the illuminated sign cannot easily explain the glowing of the free-standing characters on the carrier.
Compared to illuminated signs with electrically operated medium high voltage gas discharge tubes, in particular neon tubes, which are arranged free-standing on an elongated box, the invention makes it possible to create an illuminated sign that is characterized by its extraordinary simplicity, in particular by using a transformer like him is necessary for the operation of gas discharge tubes, is not required.
The invention is illustrated in more detail in the drawing using exemplary embodiments. Fig. 1 shows in perspective Hinteran view an embodiment of the new illuminated sign; Fig. 2 shows this embodiment in front view; F.ig. .3 is a section on line A-B of Fig. 2;
4 illustrates a single letter of the new illuminated sign in a perspective view; 5 shows another embodiment of the new luminous sign with a narrow luminous band located under the row of letters; FIG. 6 shows the illuminated sign according to FIG. 5 from behind; Fig. 7 shows a further embodiment form of the new illuminated sign for the simultaneous illumination of shop windows and the like;
Fig. 8 shows an embodiment of the traveling luminous font type; Fig. 9 is a section on line E-F 'of Fig. B.
In the embodiment according to FIGS. 1 to 3, an elongated box 1 contains a light source 2 that is invisible in the normal viewing position of the illuminated sign, for example in the form of a tubular lamp (tungsten wire lamp, electric gas discharge tube) or one or more normal incandescent lamps. When using electric gas discharge tubes, there is a considerable saving in electricity costs.
The front wall 3 of the box 1 is provided with a holding slot 5 formed from a Läugsschiene 4 for any insertion and replacement of the letters 6 which light up brightly when irradiated by the light source 2 '. In order to make better use of the light from the light source, there is a metal reflector 7 in the light box 1, which throws the reflected light rays against the free-standing letters; 6 and especially against the upper half of these letters.
The rear wall 8 of the support box can be folded down by means of the hinges 9. The flap 8 forms a light screen that leaves a narrow light exit slot 10 above. This light slot is only kept just so wide that with an appropriate arrangement of the lamp 2 only Lich light rays in the direction of the letters 6 from the light box 1 are able to exit. This reduces the annoying secondary light that unnecessarily illuminates the room in the dark shop window and thereby adversely affects the luminous effect of the letters.
However, if one wishes to use the light from the light source 2 at the same time for the room lighting, this can be done in a simple manner by folding down the light screen 8. In order not to allow the upper edge 11 of the rear box wall 8 to enter the opening in an inconvenient manner when the illuminated sign is viewed obliquely from above, the latter is lower than the upper edge 12 of the front box wall 3.
For better utilization of the Lich tes. The incandescent lamp 2 is advantageous in the front wall 3 of the. Light box 1, a Re clametransparent used, which is illuminated by the light source 2 for the letters 6 at the same time.
In order for the letters, 6 to light up under the light irradiation, they are punched out of a transparent, plastic, unbreakable material, such as celluloid (containing nitrocellulose), flame-retardant celluloid-like material (containing acetyl cellulose), synthetic resin or the like. There are substances known in the trade that act like self-luminous bodies in falling light.
In particular, those light-colored, milky-cloudy materials show a high luminous effect: their basic material is largely light-permeable and whose dye is not too dense and distributed as finely as possible, whereby the dye itself is highly light-, must be permeable and have a high level of brilliance.
Since the letters are made of unbreakable celluloid, synthetic resin or the like, the freestanding arrangement of luminous structures that are so disadvantageous in the known designs no longer entails an increased risk of damage and cracks.
The letters 6 have no lateral or enclosed surface parts adjoining the character-forming parts, and no rear wall or sloping surfaces located behind the letters. The positions 14 enclosed by the parts of the letters 6 that form the characters directly therefore form openings. In this embodiment, the letters that light up under the light irradiation stand out particularly clearly for the viewer and give the viewer the impression of self-luminous structures.
The luminous effect of the letters or other characters is very good due to their Ausgestal particularly suitable for the lighting purpose. Fig. 4 illustrates a perspective view of a single NEN letter as it is used in the new elec tric illuminated sign. The, edges of the letter are bent backwards. This gives the bookake a good strength, and it is possible to use thin material for this, as shown in the drawing.
With -thin material, however, the loss of light from the light penetrating the letter is less, and an intense luminosity is obtained even with a low light intensity. In addition, the luminous effect of the free-standing luminous structures is increased by the edges of the letters that are bent backwards. The bent edges of the letters cause when the letters are irradiated diagonally from below a brightness shading of the luminous Ge image, which increases its plastic.
It is only necessary to avoid the formation of annoying cast shadows, which is prevented when the incidence of light is very similar that the horizontally lying lower edge parts 15 protrude slightly backwards than the vertical edge parts 16 and the horizontally lying upper edge parts 17 The lower approach forms the plug-on flag to hold the letter in the slot 5 of the support box 1. If desired, it is also possible to connect the individual letters by a common support flag, as well as several rows of letters, each sitting in a support strip to be arranged one above the other.
Use -man. red or orange-colored material in addition to the luminous letters, a neon tube-like impression of the luminous sign can be achieved. This impression is improved to a great extent when the letters or other advertising signs with long, narrow light strips, which either consist of real electric gas discharge tubes or just give a gas discharge tube-like impression, are combined, in particular underlined. FIGS. 5 and 6 show an embodiment of such an illuminated sign.
A light strip 24 underlining the row of letters 23 is located there on the front wall 21 of the light box 22.
This light strip is formed in that the front wall has a narrow longitudinal slot 25 into which a narrow strip 26 made of celluloid, acetyl cellulose (Zellon), synthetic resin or the like, bent forward in a semicircle, is inserted.
This strip 2.6 comes to light up in the same way as the letters 2, 3 when irradiated by the common light source 27, which is concealed behind the wall 21, so that it acts like a self-luminous body, for example an electric C gas discharge tube. This impression is reinforced by the bulging of the strip towards the front. Since the light strip 2'4 also receives the light radiation from the letter light source 27 at the same time, the light from the light source 27 is used to an even greater extent.
For the latter purpose, that is to say to highlight the letters that are illuminated by external radiation and to increase their neon-tube-like impression, the light strip 24 can also be formed by a gas discharge tube which is operated by the known means, whereby. the transformer can be housed in the box 22. Instead of a single strip of light, several can be used within the scope of the invention.
In the execution of the illuminated sign according to FIGS. 5 and 6, a bottom plate 218 connected to this is located at the bottom of the front wall 211 and a fold-down light screen 29 is attached to it. Front wall 21, bottom plate 28 and light screen 29 form a box-shaped unit 22 which is pivotably arranged on the elongated foot 30 by means of hinges 31. This allows the viewing angle of the neon sign to be changed.
The dashed line 32 'of FIG. 5 indicates the oblique position of the letter carrier rail 21 by folding back. When the light box 22 is rotated, the light sources 27 are moved along with it, so that their irradiation angle compared to the letters 23 is not changed. So that the light box 2, 2 can be pivoted, a cutout 32 ′ is made in the elongated base 30. The connection line 33 is used to supply the operating current.
Fig. 7 illustrates diagonally from below an embodiment of the new illuminated sign for; the simultaneous illumination of shop window displays and the like.
In an elongated box 35 containing the incandescent lamps 36, there is a narrow light exit slit 37 in the top surface for the irradiation of the free-standing letters 38 and opposite this on the underside of the box a light exit opening 39 for illuminating shop window displays and the like freely above this on the illuminated sign The light exit from the upper slot 37 is such that only the row of letters 38 is just evenly illuminated, so that the upper part of the shop window remains as dark as possible and the glowing letters 38 stand out clearly from the dark.
In the front wall of the light box 35, a transparent advertisement 40 or a light strip of the type described can be used.
The embodiment according to FIGS. 8 and 9 is designed according to the type of traveling writing devices known per se. The free-standing, transparent illuminated letters 41 are attached to an endless belt 42 which is driven in a known manner by a motor (not shown) and which runs over rollers 43. The luminous letters are irradiated in the same way, as already set out Darge, obliquely from below by a light source 44 invisible in normal viewing position.
Since the letters are made of the very light and unbreakable celluloid, acetyl cellulose (Zellon), synthetic resin or the like, they can be carried by the conveyor belt 42 without special tools, so that the device is very simple in its structure.
When setting up the new advertising facility in a dark or almost dark room (shop window), the light radiation from the light source that does not hit the characters can cause annoying secondary light on the walls and ceiling of the room. In order to avoid the annoying impression of this secondary light, it is useful to give the light from the light source illuminating the characters the same color as the letters that are illuminated by the exposure to the light. For this purpose, for example, if the light source is formed by incandescent lamps, a light filter can be connected upstream of the incandescent lamps or the incandescent lamps are provided with a corresponding color coating.
