L'installation représentée comporte en ordre principal: 10 Une trémie a, pour le chargement de laitier -déjà granulé et de gypse, par exemple; 20 Un appareil b à table tournante, par exemple, qui permet la répartition et le mé lange réguliers, en quantité bien dosée, du laitier et -du gypse; 3e Un élévateur c, pour le transport des matières .ci-dessus citées, au moulin;
A method of manufacturing a hydraulic binder. The present invention relates to the manufacture of a hydraulic cement paste based on blast furnace slag, which advantageously replaces powdered hydraulic cements, such as Portland cements, metallurgical, permetallurgical, supersulfated, which meet standards. official and widely used for all construction work and the manufacture of cement-based construction materials.
The process according to the invention, in which less active constituents, i.e. blast furnace slag and sulphated materials, such as, for example, gypsum, natural anhydrite, artificial anhydrite or gypsum fired at high temperature and at least one component. more active playing the role of exciter, such as, for example, Portland cement, these two kinds of constituent, being ground separately, is characterized by the fact.
that the less active constituents are wet ground, so as to ensure a fineness of grinding and to avoid a harmful rise in temperature during grinding, the most active constituent (s) being mixed with the paste obtained at the time of the grinding use, to avoid premature setting.
The process makes it possible to manufacture the cements directly on-site and also in the factory; since the exciter is only added at the time of use, the paste obtained by the first grinding operation can be transported and stored for several hours without deterioration.
It is known that the quality of cements based on slag depends particularly on the fineness of the grinding. A happy consequence of the new process consists in that it makes it possible to obtain a much greater fineness of grinding than by the dry grinding process. Indeed, the smoothness of dry grinding is limited by the heating .des ground materials, which causes the clogging of the grinding bodies and the decomposition of the sulphated products.
In addition, the presence of a certain quantity of water contained, despite their drying, in the materials to be ground (milk and sulphated products), gives rise, by the simultaneous and dry grinding process, to the production of 'a -certain quantity of steam as a result of a temperature close to 100, in the mill. This vapor acts in a detrimental way on the ground materials and - this all the more so as the quantity of vapor is more abundant, the grinding finer, the more reactive products.
This action continues in the storage silos, so that the products thus crushed can undergo significant modifications and thus lead to, in particular, irregular setting and hardening.
In the new process, on the contrary, the finesse can be pushed much further; less active materials which, by virtue of their composition, must be ground very finely, are ground into a paste; the heating is consequently considerably reduced, the phenomenon of clogging of the grinding bodies, the decomposition of the sul fat products and the harmful action of the steam no longer occur.
Consequently, the products prepared in accordance with the invention are therefore, from the point of view of resistance and other fundamental qualities, in particular impermeability, far superior to those obtained by ordinary processes.
In addition to these advantages, the new process has still others, including in particular: the elimination of drying of slag and packaging. It is also notary that the conservation of powdered cements - to base - of slag (the blast furnaces are very uncertain, and this all the more so as they are ground more finely and that they contain few exciters.
This new cement is necessarily used shortly after its preparation, when all its active properties are unaltered.
The quality of the cements produced by the process in accordance with the invention results from further scientific considerations. It is admitted and -demonstrated, in fact, that the setting of hydraulic cements is -due to a -colloidal phenomenon: the cement particles, in contact with the mixing water, are covered with a surface layer of glue which provo that the link; the adhesive substance is dried by the formation of new layers until complete hydration of the particles. The less active elements having a great fineness of grinding therefore contribute to the easy formation of the jelly.
It follows from this description that the new process makes it possible to ensure adequate grinding from the point of view of the relative proportions of the fine and coarse elements and to graduate the fineness of the elements according to their respective qualities.
An embodiment of an installation for carrying out the process of the invention is shown schematically in the accompanying drawing.
The plant shown comprises in main order: A hopper a, for the loading of already granulated slag and gypsum, for example; An apparatus b with a turntable, for example, which allows the regular distribution and mixing, in well-dosed quantities, of the slag and the gypsum; 3rd An elevator c, for transporting the above-mentioned materials to the mill;
40 A mill, with special inlet pipe which ensures, without clogging, the regular entry of raw materials (gypsum and slag) into the mill; the mill is compartmentalized with the help of specially constructed grids, so as to prevent them from being gorged by the crushed materials which, in the long run, could set; 50 A reservoir f, for storing the dough at the outlet of the mill; Go A mixer g. This apparatus enables uniform mixing of the paste, its mixing with the active material and, if necessary, with filling substances, such as sand.
The concrete mixer h! At the end of the installation can be of any type.
