Process for the preparation of an azo dye. It has been found that valuable monoazo dyes are obtained when using diazo compounds of bases of the general formula
EMI0001.0004
where x and y = methyl, Halligen and oxyalkyl, Ri an alkyl or aralkyl radical, Rs an identical or different alkyl radical, an aryl,
Aralkyl or hydroaromatic radical means, furthermore Ri + R $ represent alkyl groups, which are bonded in a ring, with those 2,3-oxynaphthoic acid arylidene, which in the arylide radical is an oxyalkyl group alone or in connection with other substituents such as oxyalkyl, methyl or halogen.
The dyes can be produced in a known manner on the fiber, in bulk or on a substrate and are distinguished by the clarity of the hue and very good fastness properties, in particular light fastness.
The bases can be obtained, for example, from the nitroaryl sulfonic acid chlorides corresponding to the above formula by condensation with the secondary amines characterized by the formula and subsequent reduction of the condensation products.
The present patent relates to a process for the preparation of a monoazo dye. It consists in coupling 1- (2'.3'-oxynaphthoylamino) -2.5-dimethoybenzene with diazotized 4-amino-1,3-dimethylbenzene-6-sulfonic acid diethylamide.
Example 2.7 parts by weight of 4-amino-1,3-dimethylbenzene-6-sulfonic acid diethylamide are diazotized in the usual way. The tiazo solution is mixed with a solution of 3.3 parts by weight of 1- (2'.3'-oxynaphthoxylamino) -2.5-dimethoxybenzene in dilute sodium hydroxide solution and Turkish red oil, which is mixed with the amount of sodium acetate sufficient to bind the excess mineral acid , coupled.
The dye which separates out of the solution is filtered off and washed thoroughly. When dried it is a scarlet powder that dissolves in concentrated sulfuric acid with a red-violet color and on suitable substrates such as cotton; Wool and artificial silk produced a clear yellowish red with good lightfastness combined with good fastness to chlorine, washing, soda and caustic soda.
The coupling can also be carried out in the presence of a substrate suitable for producing colored lacquer.
