Casting machine for the production of stereotype plates. The invention relates to a casting machine for the production of stereotype plates. The novelty according to the invention is that a casting mold consisting of two collapsible hollow cylinder halves, on whose inner wall the curved die is to be arranged, is set up at one end for connection to the outlet opening of an associated cast metal container and is closed at the other end by a piston which movable into the mold to form the core thereof.

FIG. 11 shows, on a larger scale, a detail section along line 11-11 of FIG. 1, and FIG. 12 shows a diagrammatic view of a stereotype plate of cylindrical shape produced in the casting machine.
The casting machine shown has a melting pot 1 of relatively large capacity. The device for heating this pot is not particularly shown. The melting pot 1 is arranged in a cylindrical housing 2 and has a cylindrical outlet opening 3, which has a valve seat 4 at its inner end, which is used to accommodate a valve 5, which is located inside the pot by means of a lever 6 at 7 a support 8 is apparently supported.
The lever 6 is articulated to the hand lever 9 by means of an intermediate piece 10. The hand lever itself is articulated at 11 and is arranged in such a way that it can be operated by hand. A weight 12 is connected to the valve lever 6 by means of a rope 13 which runs upwards over a pulley 14. The dish 12 is preferably made up of individual parts, so that, if desired, the weight 12 can be increased or reduced by adding or removing parts.
The mold is arranged on a chassis 15 which is supported by rails 16 which are attached to posts 17, 18 and 19. The chassis can wag right back and forth to move closer to or away from the melting pot. The rails 16 are provided with teeth 20, which men käm with gears 21 which are attached to a transverse shaft 22 rotatably mounted in the chassis bar. At the outer end of the shaft 22 there is a handwheel 23, by rotating it, for example, the chassis can be moved into the position shown in FIG. 5, or the chassis can also be moved away from the melting pot, as FIG. 1 shows, for example.
The mold consists of two hollow cylinder halves 24 menklappbaren wel che central arms 26 are mounted on an axis 27 swing out. This axle 27 is carried by the chassis. The collapsible cylinder halves 24 are secured in their closed position by a locking device.
This locking device consists of a threaded pin 28 which is mounted so that it can swing out at 29 on one of the two cylinder halves 24 and can swing into a notch 30 on the flange 31 of the other cylinder half 24. The cylinder halves 24 are recessed at 32 in order to receive the web part 33 of the rim 34, which is V-shaped in cross-section, as FIGS. 6 and 8 show.
The inner surfaces of the cylinder halves 24 are provided with grooves 35 and 36 running in the circumferential direction. The grooves 35 are intended to receive a ring 37, which is arranged on the inner end of a piston guide bushing 38 for the purpose of axial adjustment. One of the chassis rigidly seated mold end 39 (Fig. '5 and 11) is guide 38 screwed into the end of this piston. At the one end of the mold there is a ring-shaped mold end 40, on which an annular rib 41 sits, which enters the grooves 36 of the cylinder halves 24.
The annular end of the mold 40 is fastened at 42 at the end of the skirt 34 swingable be. The protruding into the mold ends of the parts 39 and 40 are seen according to FIG. 5 with beveled ganten 56 ver.
The annular end closure member 40 is provided with an axially beveled ring extension 43, which works together with a correspondingly beveled seat 44 at the outer end of the outlet opening 3. A flange 45 is also seated on the end closure member 40, while the outlet of the melting pot has a corresponding flange 46, these two flanges 45 and 46 lying close together when the casting machine is ready for casting. A locking ring 47 is provided for clamping these two flanges together, as shown in FIG.
This locking or clamping ring 47 is rotatably mounted on the flange 46 and the flange 45 has recesses 48 on its circumference into which locking tongues 49 on the clamping ring can enter. These locking tongues 49 are provided with beveled surfaces, and when the ring 4'7 is twisted, the flanges 45 and 46 are firmly clamped together.
The piston guide sleeve 38 is in alignment with the outlet opening 3 of the melting pot, and the casting mold formed by the cylinder halves 24 is also in axis coverage with the piston guide sleeve and the outlet opening 3.
After the casting mold has been filled with molten metal, the piston 50 is moved into the casting mold, completely axially through the casting mold, until it enters the outlet opening 3 of the melting pot, so that any excess metal is removed from the casting mold is driven back into the melting pot. In Fig. 5, the piston is shown in its fully moved forward position.
The piston 50 not only slides in a fitting manner in its guide 38, but is also guided in an exactly fitting manner in the end closure members 39 and 40 and fits precisely into the outlet opening 3.
For the purpose of back and forth displacement of this piston 50 is a screw spindle 51 attached to the same, which is moved by a courage ter 52, which to some extent forms the hub of a gear 53 which meshes with a gear 54 on the shaft of the drive motor 55 to. Due to the beveled inner ends 56 of the end closure members 39 and 40, inclined edges are produced on the cast plate 57. The die, which is net angeord in the form, is denoted by 58.
The piston iot also see ver with coolant channels 59, through which a coolant can be switched through gelei in an uninterrupted circuit. The inlet and outlet channels 60 and 61 for this coolant are located in the illustrated embodiment in the interior of the screw spindle 51. At each upper end of the mold there is a ventilation channel 62, as in FIG. 5 in particular clearly shows.
The operation of the casting machine described is as follows: When the casting mold and the piston are in their retracted position, the cylinder halves 24 forming the casting mold are swung into their open position, as shown in dashed lines in FIG. and the end closure member 40 is swung into the working position.
Then one edge of the die 58 is tucked under the clamping or edge strip 34, then the die is placed around the end closure members 39 and 40 and the other end of the die is tucked under the other edge of the edge strip, as FIG. 6 shows . For the purpose of securing the edges of the die, the edge strip, as FIG. 6 shows, has a T-shaped cross-section, or there are outwardly protruding shoulders on the edge strip which reach over the edges of the die.
Then the cylinder halves 24 are closed and secured in the closed position by the locking device 28, as shown in solid lines in FIG. 6 ge. It can be seen that the die is now arranged in a cylindrical shape inside the closed mold.
The chassis is now set in motion and the mold is moved into the position shown in FIG. 4, in which the axial ring extension 43 of the end closure element 40 enters the outlet opening 3 and comes to rest on the seat 44. In this situation, the parts are locked by twisting the locking ring 47 hung. Now the valve 5 is opened and the molten metal is allowed to flow from the melting pot into the mold, which is completely filled with the molten metal. The air in the mold escapes through the ventilation ducts 62 ..
It can now be seen that a relatively large amount of metal is located inside the mold, under the pressure of the amount of metal located in the melting pot. As a result, the walls of the mold are heated extremely effectively and cooling is prevented, so that the molten metal actually fills all the depressions and cavities in the die. The pressure on the molten metal also presses the die firmly against the inner wall of the mold, so that the end result is a casting that fully reproduces all the details of the die and also has a perfect cylindrical shape.
After a certain time, the valve 5 is allowed to move into its final position, and this happens under the influence of the weight 12. The piston is now also moved inwards so that a precisely monitored pressure is applied to the molten metal, to push the molten metal into even the smallest indentations of the 1latria @ :. At the same time, however, the excess metal is driven out of the mold by the piston and pushed back into the melting pot.
The diameter of the piston is exactly as large as the diameter of the printing cylinder on which the printing plates are later attached, so that after the printing plate has been generated, the same fits exactly on the printing cylinder and no post-processing is required. It should also be noted that while the molten metal is under pressure, the metal part remaining in the mold remains under this pressure until this pressure is relieved by cooling and shrinking the metal.
After the piston has been moved completely through the mold and has finally entered the outlet opening 3 of the melting pot, a coolant, such as water, is forced through the cooling channels of the piston after a certain period of time. In this way, the machine cools down quickly and, after the casting is removed, it is very soon more able to work in order to cast a further mold plate. The casting machine is characterized by its high performance.
After the generated stereotypical plate has cooled, the piston and chassis are moved back. The mold is opened and the end closure member 40 is swung outward so that the finished casting can now be removed.
The panels produced do not need to be reworked; there is at most a very small burr to remove. The inner diameter and the curvature of the printing plate is precisely adapted to the printing cylinder on which the printing plate is to be arranged, while the ends of the printing plate have the correct bevel to accommodate the clamping plates of the printing cylinder.
The casting machine described is intended for the production of complete or cylindri's printing plates. It goes without saying, however, that by attaching additional aids, the mold can also be used for casting segment-like pressure plates, that is to say plates which have only part of a cylindrical circumference. The castings produced are of very good quality, and an extremely perfect reproduction of all die parts is guaranteed.
The castings are also characterized by uniform tightness and cannot warp or distort when they cool because, as already noted, the metal is kept under pressure during the cooling process until this pressure is finally due to the shrinkage of the metal itself is actively weakening, which happens while the pressure plate is supported by the piston and the walls of the mold.
The casting machine described and shown in the drawing represents a practical embodiment of the machine; However, it is possible to change the machine in some cherlei way and to shape other shapes usable for printing plates.
